Abstract

The graphite mould sleeve of a continuous casting mould is coated with an electrolytically deposited metal layer, which consists of Cu and is approx. 500 mu thick is on the outside of the cylinder in contact with the water coolant surrounding the sleeve. The metal layers improves heat transfer from graphite cylinder promoting faster cooling of billet being cast, which consequently has a finer grain, more uniform crystal structure.
