Abstract

The discs are slidable on a shaft and biased together by a helical spring on the shaft towards a stop. One of the discs is carried on a mounting connected to the armature of an electromagnet which may be operated to move the discs away from the stop against the action of the spring to increase the braking force on the yarn passing between the disc. Pref. the electromagnet is controlled by an electronic control device responsive to signals dependent on yarn tension furnished by a feeler. A predetermined miniumum tension is applied to yarn increasing the accuracy of tension control over a wide range.
