Abstract

Lubricant comprising (a) 5-95 wt % hydrocarbon oil (solvent-, acid- or hydro- refined mineral oil or 2-20C olefin oligomers) and (b) 95-5 wt % polyalkylene glycol ether ester (I) R4 (OR2)n OOCR5 m or (II) R3 (OR2)n OOCR'C OO (R2O)n R3, (where R' is 1-34C hydrocarbylene, each R2 is 2-5C alkylene, each R3 is 1-25C hydrocarbyl, R4 is m-valent 3-15C hydrocarbon gp., m is 2-4, n is 2-50, R5 is 1-25C hydrocarbyl). Multigrade engine oils, hydraulic oils, gear oils, and metal- cutting and - working lubricants. Improved viscosity - temperature characteristics (less viscosity - modifying additive required); improved thermal stability, reduced volatility, improved lubrication with less wear.
