Abstract

Core sampler, particularly for drilling hard strata, and more especially for taking core samples during underwater drilling, of the known type having a core tube provided with an axial vibratory motion to facilitate the entry of the core sample into the core tube, surrounded by a concentric drilling crown or bit, which can be rotated and advanced axially in order to carry out drilling to permit the core to be cut, the special feature of the sampler assembly being that during drilling the core tubes can be displaced axially relative to the drilling crown, the vibrating and axially advancing movements of the core tube being controlled independently of the control of the rotation and axial thrust of the drilling crown, either simultaneously or successively.
