Abstract
Remote control filling device is intended for batteries and accumulators, for emergency use, in which the electrodes are kept dry until the emergency arises. Instantaneous filling is effected by the automatic fracturing of a glass recipient containing the electrolyte by a firing pin from a small gun. The electrolyte then flows into the electrode case situated immediately underneath. The recipient is filled through a nipple which is then sealed by a blowpipe, it has in integral, internal co-axial well which houses a small ballistic gun and a cartridge of black powder. The latter is fired by an electric fuse operated from a distance. When fired, a pin is projected from the gun and makes a clean break of the base of the well, the electrolyte flows rapidly into the batteries and starts the electric current. Reserve batteries can be brought into instant use in emergencies, the operation is absolutely reliable even after the lapse of several years.
