Abstract
The steel of compn. (%) 0.35-0.5C, 0.2-2.0 Si, 0.5-1.5 Mn, 0.7-2.0 Cr, 0.4-1.6 Mo, 0.25-1.0 V, 0.03 P, 0.03 S 2.0 Ni, 2.0 W, 1.0 Ti, balance Fe and usual impurities is hardened from a temp. 970-1050 degrees C and annealed at min. 570 degrees C to give a tensile strength of over 160 kp/mm2. It is then nitrided in a salt bath at 500-580 degrees C in known manner, pref. the anneal is combined with the nitriding treatment.
