Abstract

Herbicidal substd. pyridazones prepn Cpds. of formula (I) where R is H or lower alkyl and R2 is lower alkyl are prepd. by reacting 3-trifluoromethyl aniline with nitrite ions in aqs. soln in the presence of strong mineral acid reducing the reaction mixture in water under acidic conditions, then reacting the resulting product with chloromuconic acid in a solvent which is inert under the reaction conditions, and finally reacting with an amine of formula HNR1R2. Pref., the inert solvent is toluene and the mineral acid is hydrochloric acid. Cpds. (I) are useful as selective herbicides, e.g. in cotton.
