Abstract

A guide tube, lockable to the control rod head, slides axially along a sheath inside the top of the reactor protection vessel. The upper end of the guide tube pref. has a flange for lifting by the grab; thus the control rod can be supported wh ile the grab m mechanism remains out of the hot reactor gases. The locking mechanism pref. consists of a cylindrical cage supporting an assembly or balls located within opposite necks in the guide tube and control rod head. The guide tube can be turned to bring bosses in its neck against the balls and push them into the neck on the control rod head.
