Abstract

A perforated diaphragm of weather resistant rubber, pref. an Si elastomer on a highly fluorinated elastomer is clamped over the end of a novel power cable terminal sheath to provide a waterproof seal allowing axial movement of the cable with respect to a terminal cap further inside the ceramic and metal housing. A plastic membrane mounted alongside the diaphragm keeps the unit waterproof before assembly on site. When fitted, the annular cavities between the conductor cable and the sheath are filled with a high dielectric fluid e.g. a mixt. of high m.wt. polybutene and low m.wt. polyolefin.
