Abstract

The male contact, which can be fixed on equipment below the water surface, has a cylindrical body with peripheral contacts. Cable terminations are made from within the body. Its contacts are protected by a sleeve that is oil-filled and slides down the rod to expose the contacts. The female part is in the form of a bell with ring contacts inside an inner sleeve. When the bell is immersed in water, balancing tubes cause the air which is trapped inside to be compressed by the action of oil displaced by water inside a reservoir. The bell slides over the male contact and a pawl and dog system causes the protector sleeve to expose the contacts.
