METHOD FOR PRODUCING A HINGE OF AN INFORMATION SHEET OF AN
IDENTITY DOCUMENT, INFORMATION SHEET OF AN IDENTITY DOCUMENT
COMPRISING A HINGE OBTAINED ACCORDING TO SAID METHOD AND
IDENTITY DOCUMENT COMPRISING SAID INFORMATION SHEET
The present application relates to a method for producing a hinge of an information sheet of an identity document, to an information sheet of an identity document comprising a hinge obtained according to said method and to an identity document comprising said information sheet.
Document EP1008459 describes an identity document that comprises an information sheet, supporting at least one identifier of the holder of the identity document and connected to the rest of the identity document by a hinge. According to said document, the information sheet comprises an assembly of polycarbonate layers and a polypropylene layer that extends beyond the polycarbonate layers so as to define a strip of material connected to the rest of the identity document and to form a hinge. According to such document EP1008459, the polypropylene layer is associated to a woven structure.
Document EP1812244 describes an identity document that comprises an information sheet connected to the rest of the identity document by a hinge comprising a textile layer positioned between two thermoplastic resin adhesion reinforcement layers.
Document EP1502765 describes, as do the previous documents, an identity document that has an information sheet connected to the rest of the identity document by a hinge comprising only a woven layer.
Document EP2904547 (or DE 10 2012 019308) describes the preamble of claim 1 or an interlayer intended for a small-format multilayer portable data carrier that comprises, according to one embodiment, a layer of plastic material interposed between two layers of fabric. This document proposes a solution aimed at obtaining an interlayer with an embossed surface.
None of the previous embodiments are entirely satisfactory. Indeed, the hinge thus produced is either too flexible and does not offer sufficient hold in the direction of the hinge or is too rigid and does not allow the identity document to maintain a closed state.
The present invention aims to remedy all or part of the drawbacks of the prior art. To this end, the subject of the invention is a method for producing an information sheet of an identity document, said information sheet comprising at least one information layer and a hinge that comprises a hot-melt layer interposed between two mesh woven layers, the hot-melt layer becoming nested in the meshes of the woven layers after assembly.
According to the invention, the hot-melt layer and the woven layers are subjected to at least one laminating step at a laminating temperature so that the hot-melt layer becomes embedded in the meshes of the woven layers after the laminating step, the hot-melt layer being made of a first material that is deformable and/or fusible at the lamination temperature, the woven layers and/or the hot-melt layer having characteristics that give the hinge satisfactory resistance and flexibility allowing an identity document so equipped to maintain a closed state.
According to the invention, each mesh of the woven layers has a square or rectangular section and has a smaller dimension between 0.23 and 0.26 mm.
According to other features: - the hinge comprises a single hot-melt layer and only two woven layers; - the hot-melt layer is made of polycarbonate; - the hot-melt layer has a thickness of between 40 and 60 um; - the woven layers each have a thickness of between 50 and 100 um; - the method further comprises a step of positioning at least one information layer on a first side of the assembly of bonding layers and/or at least one information layer on a second side of the assembly of bonding layers as well as a lamination step so as to obtain cohesion between the information layer(s) and the assembly of bonding layers.
The invention also relates to an information sheet obtained from said method and an identity document comprising at least one such information sheet.
Other features and advantages will emerge from the description of the invention below, the description being given by way of example only, with reference to the attached drawings, in which: - Figure 1 shows a perspective view of an identity document illustrating an embodiment of the invention, - Figure 2 is a top view of an identity document of figure 1 in its open state, - Figure 3 is a top view of an identity document of figure 1 in its closed state, - Figure 4 shows a perspective view of an information sheet fitted with a hinge that illustrates an embodiment of the invention, - Figure 5 is a cross-section of a assembly of bonding layers of the information sheet shown in figure 4, and - Figure 6 is a cross-section of a assembly of bonding layers of the information sheet shown in figure 4.
Figure 1 shows an identity document 10, such as a passport for example, that has a front cover 12 and a back cover 14 that are connected together at a junction zone 16 forming a fold, an information sheet 18 as well as a plurality of sheets 20.
The front and back covers 12, 14 are of a more semi-rigid material (more rigid than the sheets 20).
Each sheet 20 is made of paper and comprises two rectangular sheets 20.1, 20.2, connected by a fold 20.3.
The information sheet 18 comprises a rectangular main part 22 having first and second long sides 22.1 and 22.2 as well as first and second short sides 22.2, 22.4. When the information sheet 18 and the sheets 20 are assembled, the short sides of the sheets 20.1, 20.2 of said sheets 20 and of the information sheet 18 are superimposed and the first long side of the information sheet 18 and one of the long sides of the sheets 20.1, 20.2 of said sheets 20 are superimposed.
In addition to the central part 22, the information sheet 18 comprises a hinge 24 connected to the second long side 22.2 of the central part 22.
The front and back covers 12, 14, the information sheet 18 and the sheets 20 are connected by a seam line 26 positioned at the junction area 16 of the front and back covers 12, 14, of the hinge 24 of the information sheet and the folds 20.3 of the sheets 20.
For assembly, the identity document 10 comprises a support sheet 28 (represented by dotted lines in figure 2) having a first sheet 28.1 forming a front endsheet configured to be glued against the inner face of the front cover 12 and a second sheet 28.2 forming a rear endsheet configured to be glued against the inner face of the rear cover 14.
The assembly process comprises the steps of connecting the information sheet 18 to the support sheet 28 using several spots of glue, positioning the other sheets 20, connecting, using the seam line 26, the information sheet 18, the support sheet 28 and the sheets 20, gluing the front and back covers 12, 14 and the support sheet 28, then folding the identity document 10.
According to one assembly process, two identity documents are assembled simultaneously and are then separated by a cut perpendicular to the seam line 26.
Of course, the invention is not limited to this procedure for assembly. Further solutions are possible.
The information sheet 18 comprises an assembly of bonding layers 30, which has a first face 30.1 and a second face 30.2 as well as at least one information layer 32 attached to one of the first or second faces 30.1, 30.2.
According to one configuration, the information sheet 18 comprises at least one information layer 32 attached to the first face 30.1 of the assembly of bonding layers 30 and/or at least one information layer 34 attached to the second face 30.2 of the assembly of bonding layers 30.
According to an embodiment visible in figure 6, the information sheet 18 comprises, on the first face 30.1, a first opaque layer 32.1 of plastic material, white polycarbonate for example, a second transparent layer 32.2 of plastic material as well as a third transparent layer 32.3 of plastic material, and on the second face 30.2, a first opaque layer 34.1 of plastic material, white polycarbonate for example, and a second transparent layer 34.2 of plastic material, at least one of layers 32.1 to 32.3, 34.1 and 34.2 comprising at least one identifier of the holder of the identity document 10 and ensuring the function of an information layer 32, 34.
These different layers 32.1 to 32.3, 34.1 and 34.2 are not further described because they are known to those skilled in the art.
The information layers 32, 34 or any other layer attached to one of the first and/or second faces 30.1, 30.2 of the assembly of bonding layers 30 are rectangular and have the same dimensions as the main part 22 of the information sheet 18.
The assembly of bonding layers 30 also comprises a first short edge, a second short edge, a first long edge 36.1 and a second long edge 36.2.
According to a configuration visible in figure 6, when the information sheet 18 is assembled, the first and second short edges of the assembly of bonding layers 30 are respectively aligned with the first and second short sides 22.2, 22.4 of the main part 22 and the first long edge 36.1 is aligned with the first long side 22.1 of the main part 22. The distance separating the first and second long edges 36.1, 36.2 of the assembly of bonding layers 30 is greater than the distance separating the first and second long sides 22.1, 22.2 of the main part 22 so that the assembly of bonding layers 30 comprises a strip of material not covered by the main part 22 that forms the hinge 24.
According to the invention, the hinge is an assembly of bonding layers 30 that comprises a hot-melt layer 38 sandwiched between two woven layers 40, 42. According to one embodiment, the hot-melt layer 38 and the woven layers 40, 42 are assembled during at least one lamination step at a given lamination temperature, the hot-melt layer 38 being made of a first material that is deformable and/or melts at the lamination temperature.
The woven layers 40, 42 are made of a material whose melting temperature is higher than the lamination temperature.
The woven layers 40, 42 are positioned symmetrically with respect to the central hot-melt layer 38.
The assembly of bonding layers 30 comprises a single hot-melt layer 38 and only two woven layers 40, 42.
According to the invention, the hot-melt layer 38 and the woven layers 40, 42 have characteristics that provide the hinge 24 with satisfactory resistance, in particular to tearing, and flexibility, allowing an identity document incorporating it to maintain a closed state.
According to one embodiment, the hot-melt layer 38 is made of polycarbonate.
The hot-melt layer 38 has a thickness of between 40 and 60 um. According to one embodiment, the hot-melt layer 38 has a thickness of the order of 50 um. This choice of thickness makes it possible to obtain a compromise between the mechanical strength of the hinge 24 and its flexibility, which allows an identity document incorporating it to maintain a closed state.
Each woven layer 40, 42 comprises natural or synthetic fibres that are arranged so as to define meshes defining openings passing through the woven layer 40, 42. Each mesh has a square or rectangular section and has a smallest dimension between 0.23 and 0.26 mm. This choice for the meshes makes it possible to obtain a compromise between the mechanical resistance of the hinge 24 and its flexibility, which allows an identity document incorporating it to maintain a closed state.
According to one configuration, the meshes of each woven layer 40, 42 have identical square sections with sides of 0.23 to 0.26 mm.
The woven layers 40, 42 can have different or identical meshes.
The woven layers 40, 42 each have a thickness (corresponding approximately to twice the diameter of the fibres) of between 50 and 100 um. According to one embodiment, the woven layers 40, 42 have a thickness of the order of 85 um. This choice of thickness makes it possible to obtain a compromise between the mechanical strength of the hinge 24 and its flexibility, which allows an identity document incorporating it to maintain a closed state.
According to a method for obtaining the information sheet, the woven layers 40, 42 are positioned on either side of the hot-melt layer 38 and the woven layers 40, 42 and the hot-melt layer 38 are subjected to a first lamination step at a first lamination temperature.
During this step, the hot-melt layer 38 becomes entwined with the meshes of the woven layers 40, 42 so as to obtain excellent cohesion between the woven layers 40, 42 and the hot-melt layer 38. Thus, the meshes of the woven layers 40, 42 are sealed by the material of the hot-melt layer 38. At the end of this first lamination step, the assembly of bonding layers 30 has a thickness of between 80 and 120 um, of the order of 100 um.
The information layers 32, 34 as well as any other layer are positioned on either side of the assembly of bonding layers 30 and this assembly are subjected to a second lamination step at a second lamination temperature, so as to obtain cohesion between the information layer(s) and the assembly of bonding layers 30.
The first and second lamination steps are not further described because they may vary depending on the materials of the assembled layers.
Of course, the invention is not limited to this method of obtaining the assembly of the different layers of the information sheet 18. Likewise, the bonding layers 30 may not extend over the entire surface of the central part 22 but only over part of it.
