CONSISTE EN AÑADIR SULFITO SODICO O BISULFITO SODICO A MATERIA PRIMA DE PAPEL O AL AGUA DE PROCESO, EN COMBINACION CON UN AGENTE DE RETENCION CATIONICO, TAL COMO ALUMBRE, EN CANTIDAD SUFICIENTE PARA FORMAR UN COMPLEJO CON EL SULFITO, SIENDO ESTE EL QUE REACCIONA CON EL ALDEHIDO. TIENE APLICACIONES EN EL PROCESO DE FABRICACION DE PAPEL.
