Abstract

Fibre bales are laid within a circle on the floor, especially in a predetermined arrangement and are opened by a boom (10) which rotates about the centre of the circle and which carries a hooded rotating beater (28) that sweeps over the tops of the bales to loosen and strip off fibres which are then pulled up into a pneumatic conveyor system (110, 120). Once each boom revolution the beater is lowered a predetermined amount to strip off more fibre from the bales.
