Abstract

Un método para producir alúmina anhidra a partir de alúmina trihidratada en el que el agua libre y unida químicamente es retirada, al menor en parte, en una zona de precalcinación en donde la alúmina trihidratada está en suspensión en una corriente de gases calientes, calentada por ellos y separada de ellos, después de lo cual la alúmina deshidratada precalcinada es recristalizada al menos parcialmente a alfa-alúmina en una cámara de reacción provista de medios para alimentar combustible y gas que contiene oxígeno a una zona de combustión en la cámara, en la que se inicia la recristalización exotérmica mediante calentamiento adicional de la alúmina precalcinada suspendiendo el material en gases de combustión calientes; después de lo cual la alúmina recristalizada al menos parcialmente de transporta fuera de la cámara de reacción suspendida en la corriente de gases de combustión, se separa de la corriente gaseosa y se somete a un enfriamiento rápido en una zona de enfriamiento, caracterizadopor proporcionar una iniciación vigorosa de la reacción de recristalización por mezcla íntima de alúmina precalcinada y combustible seguido de suspensión de esta mezcla en el gas que contiene oxígeno alimentado a la zona de combustión.
