Abstract

A layer of plastic (6) is foamed onto a wire cable core (1). Thereafter, a further layer of stranded wires (12) is twisted onto the core cable, said layer of stranded wires being pressed into the layer of foamed plastic. The plastics foam is in this case given a different structure at different points, to be precise just as is required. The layer of plastic, originally the same everywhere, is compressed all the more and consequently becomes all the more dense the closer an outer stranded wire and a core stranded wire come to the point concerned. This structure is not crushed and rubbed during use between the oppositely lying wires of different stranded wires and, as a whole, remains flexible. The layer of foamed plastic may be combined with layers of dense plastic.
