Abstract

Perfections introduced in a safety belt retractor having a belt storage reel and a spool rewinding spring for loading said spool in a rewinding direction of the belt, whose improvements made in means to reduce the tension applied to the belt, when being used, in relation to the normal loading of said rewinding spring, they comprise the provision of: means for providing a reduced rewind load on said reel, to provide a reduced tension on said belt; means for activating said means to provide a reduced rewind load in response to the rotation of the spool in a predetermined manner; and means for deactivating said means to provide a reduced rewind load in response to the rotation of the reel, in a direction of rewinding the belt, of more than one complete revolution, under the influence of said reduced tension.
