Abstract
In plants, such as nuclear power stations, where iodine isotopes may occur in the air, activated carbon filters (13) should be provided to filter the exhaust air. Normally, aerosol filters (10) are connected upstream of the activated carbon filters (13). In addition to the iodine isotopes, any hydrocarbons present in the air are likewise precipitated by the activated carbon filters (13). In order to ensure that the activated carbon filters are fully functional when iodine isotopes suddenly arise in the exhaust air, further activated carbon filters (6) are connected upstream of the aerosol filters, and there is provided, between the aerosol filters (10) and the activated carbon filters (6) connected upstream, a measuring instrument (19) which responds to hydrocarbons in the air and has an impact on the replacement of the activated carbon in the activated carbon filter (6) connected upstream. As a result, the activated carbon filters (13) are ready at all times for suddenly arising iodine isotopes.
