Abstract

Procedure for the preparation of methanol from gaseous and liquid hydrocarbons whose carbon/hydrogen ratio is higher than stoichiometrically needed to obtain methanol, by catalytic cracking in one or two stages of these hydrocarbons, with the addition of steam, to temperatures of 350 to 950ºC and pressures of 5 to 30 bar, to obtain a synthesis gas, which contains essentially hydrogen and carbon oxides, and subsequent catalytic synthesis of hydrogen with carbon oxides to form methanol, at temperatures of 230 to 280ºC and pressures from 30 to 150 bar, characterized in that for the reduction of the heat/energy consumption, based on the methanol obtained, from the exhaust gas of the methanol synthesis gaseous components containing carbon are eliminated, and the gaseous components, rich in hydrogen, remnants are added to the hydrocarbons to be cracked, with the proviso that this mixture has a carbohydrate ratio no/hydrogen of at most 5.7.
