Abstract
A process for treating titanium dioxide pigment, comprising forming an aqueous dispersion of titanium dioxide for pigment containing a first water-soluble silicon compound, in an amount of 1 to 2% by weight expressed as SiO2, adding to the dispersion a first water soluble aluminum acid compound, in amount of 1.5 to 2.5% by weight expressed as Al2O3, a water soluble zirconium acid compound, in amount of 0.5 to 1.5% by weight expressed as ZrO2, and, a water soluble titanium acidic compound, in an amount of 1.0 to 2.0% by weight expressed as TiO2, change the pH of the dispersion to an on value between 7.5 and 8.5, and then add to the dispersion a second water-soluble silicon compound, in an amount of 1 to 2% by weight expressed as SiOg, a second acidic water-soluble aluminum compound, in an amount of 1 to 2% by weight expressed as Al2O3 and an alkaline aluminum compound soluble in water, in an amount of 0 to 1.5% by weight and expressed as Al2gO3, all so many percent by weight being based on the weight of TiO2 of the pigment, and recovering the pigment thus treated.
