Abstract

A process for corroding aluminum and aluminum alloys comprising contacting said aluminum with an aqueous solution of 15 to about 200 g/l of alkali metal hydroxide, 0.5 to about 15 g/l of at least one forming agent of chelates, and 0.0001 at about 1 g/l of at least one oxidizing agent, for 1 to 15 minutes at a temperature within the range of 49 to 88ºC.
