Abstract

Cleaning apparatus for removing electrostatically charged particles of toner material from the surface of an electrostatic plate, comprising: a continuous rubbing means mounted to move in a closed circuit in rubbing application with the surface of the electrostatic plate containing particles of toner material attracted to it in order to remove said toning material particles from said electrostatic plate, said rubbing means comprising at least one outer layer of a deformable material that has a resistivity of less than 10 + 8 ohm-centimeters and that has an enveloping layer outside on it; connected cleaning means being applied to said rubbing means to remove turning material therefrom; propulsion means for moving said wiper in said closed circuit to said electrostatic plate and to said cleaning means; a current source connected to said rubbing means to supply the outer envelope layer of said rubbing means with a current proportional to the image load of the toner material in contact with them.
