Abstract

A method of positively feeding a filament to a machine requiring such a filament, comprising: guiding the filament in a first direction, from a supply thereof, to a position near an end of a drum provided with an inner passage; fixedly mounted with respect to a frame member; winding said filament around said drum, next to said first end thereof, to thereby form a plurality of turns advancing in a second direction, opposite said first direction, towards the other end of said drum, simultaneously unwinding the turn of leading filament of said drum at an angular speed identical to the angular rate of winding, and withdrawing said filament simultaneously unwound in said second direction, up to said other end of said drum, and reversing the direction of travel of said filament at said other end and passing said inverted filament through said passage internally to said drum, and through an opening in said frame member, whereby said filament moves in said first direction towards said machine.
