A method of recovering zinc from zinc sulphide minerals which comprises forming a suspension of said minerals in finely divided form in an aqueous solution containing ammonium sulfate and free ammonia, whereby the zinc which is complexed with ammonia is dissolved from said minerals in said solution, and the resulting zinc carrier solution is then separated from the mineral matter exhausted in undissolved zinc, characterized in that the solution of zinc in the solution is effected by passing said suspension at a pressure not higher at 0.7 kg/cm 2 gauge successively through a series of two or more separate closed leach vessels in which the temperature of the suspension is maintained in the range of 60ºC to 100º c, and vigorously stirring the suspension in each vessel at the same time.
