Abstract

A process for producing a sintered iron alloy, characterized in that it comprises the following operations: a) incorporating into a rotary cylindrical mixer powders of the following elements in the following proportion (weight percent) chromium 10.5-15%; carbon 0.5-2.5%; 0.25-5% molybdenum; copper 3-2.5%, the rest being iron, except usual impurities and trace elements; b) densifying the aforementioned powder mixture by subjecting it to a pressure of 620 meganewtons/m2; c) sintering the compact material obtained in an atmosphere of cracked ammonia by treating it for one hour at 1100ºC; d) subjecting the material obtained in the previous operation for 15 minutes at 1000ºC; e) abruptly cooling the material obtained in an oil bath; and f) annealing the resulting product in air at 600ºC for one hour.
