Abstract

A chain stopper for a mooring buoy comprises a body 1 to which one link 5a of a mooring chain is attached, the body being movable in relation to the buoy due to arcuate surfaces 8 of stub shafts 7 on the body 1 being in rolling engagement with arcuate supporting surfaces 10 on the buoy, the radius of curvature of the concave surfaces 8 being greater than that of the convex surfaces 10. The surface 8 is semicircular in section as shown and the centre of curvature thereof is formed either at the contact point between the link 5a attached to the body, and the next link in the direction of loading, or at the centre of the cross-section of the line 5a adjacent the said next link. The link 5a is locked in the body 1 by two elements 4 appropriately profiled and which conically wedge into a conical passage 3 in the main body block 2.
