Abstract

Weft guides 1-4, which descend to the same point 82 to present weft to the weft inserter, are swung about individual pivots 6-9 by a slide 26 carrying arms 22-25, a selected one of which is moved under the tail 18-21 of a weft guide by the dobby or jacquard. The slide is operated by a cam 37 and is locked at the end of its stroke by a pawl (not shown) so that the same weft can be inserted on successive picks without the necessity of re-operating the weft guide the slide is released when a change of weft is indicated. The arms 22-25 are moved under the tails of the weft guides (see Fig. 4) by springs 43 acting on arms 38, when allowed to do so by cams 47, 48 on two camshafts operated by the dobby either camshaft can hold any lever 22-25 clear of its weft guide tail (as shown), and each shaft has two angular positions, thereby producing four combinations which enable one weft guide at a time to be operated. Springs are interposed in the connections from the dobby to the camshafts, so that the dobby can preselect the next setting, which takes effect when the camshafts are unlocked at the completion of a weft insertion. When a semi-open shed type of dobby is used, the connections from it also include an arrangement whereby partial movements followed by a return to the original position have no effect on the camshafts.
