Abstract

A valve for controlling the air flow in a by-pass round the throttle valve of an I. C. engine with electronically controlled manifold petrol injection comprises a cylindrical valve member 6 with a slot 9 and a groove 18 of progressively increasing depth. The upstream and downstream edges 17 and 21 of the slot 9 co-operate with the edges 20 and 22 of the flow passage 5 during valve rotation to provide a plurality of sharp changes in flow-rate. 'The valve member 6 is rotated by a bimetallic strip (10), Figs. 1 and 3 (not shown), in direct contact with the engine oil, having one end fixed in a slot (11) in the valve shaft (8) and the other end adjustably secured to the flanged valve housing (1).
