Abstract
In a forced-flow steam generator having a separator 8 between the evaporation and superheater stages 7, 8, the discharge liquid from the separator 8 either passes through a heat exchanger 16 in the feed pipe 18 to the evaporator or discharges into the pipe 18 and a temperature responsive device 25 in the feed pipe 18 actuates a control unit 27 upon change of temperature to produce a transient signal which operates a valve 15 in the discharge pipe 17, or a feed control valve, to produce a temperary connection and prevent oscillations in the steam supply. In Fig. 1 rise in temperature in the pipe 18 operates valve 15 to cause a temporary reduction in the discharge flow, whereas in Fig. 2 (not shown), wherein the pipe 17 discharges into the pipe 18, rise in temperature in the pipe 18 operates a fuel valve (32) to cause a temporary increase in the fuel supply. A feedwater control valve 3 is controlled by a steam flow responsive device 20 and a device 21 responsive to the level of water in separator 8 whilst the fuel control valve 32 is controlled by a steam pressure responsive device 31. A device responsive to the temperature of the outlet end of tube 7 may replace, or act in addition to, the device 20.
