Description
5 Procedure for measuring the pressure and / or molar mass of a gas in an enclosure, and corresponding measurement set. 5
The present invention relates to a process according to the preamble of claim 1. 10 State of the art It is desired to be able to access the value of the pressure in a cylindrical enclosure filled with a gaseous mixture, for example for the measurement of the internal pressure of a fuel rod of a nuclear power plant reactor. It is also desired to determine the molar mass of the gas mixture mentioned above. To access this type of information, it is necessary to use destructive methods in general, such as drilling the enclosure. 20 Methods based on the presence of a radioactive tracer gas (such as krypton can also be used)
However, the latter methods are not applicable when you want to measure the pressure in a tube which is part of a tube bundle that contains the same radioactive tracer. An acoustic sensor is known from FR 2 739 925 comprising:
- --
- por lo menos un transductor que genera una onda acustica y/o que recibe una onda acustica de retorno; at least one transducer that generates an acoustic wave and / or that receives a return acoustic wave;
- --
30 - a liquid coupling layer of the sensor with the bar, the defined thickness layer being A / 4, A corresponding to twice the acoustic thickness of the bar wall.
The sensor allows to deduce the gas pressure in the free volume of the fuel rod, thanks to the amplitude of the waves reflected in the transducer. 35 The sensor suffers, however, from certain drawbacks.
First, it allows measuring only the gas pressure, and not its molar mass.
In addition, the liquid coupling layer in A / 4 allows a good transmission of the acoustic waves in the bar, but only in a small range of frequencies around the resonant frequency of a stack formed by the sensor and the bar.
In addition, the amplitude of the gas resonances is, of course, sensitive to pressure, but also to some 45 disturbances or to little known magnitudes, such as gas absorption or defects in the bar walls. Thus, even after calibration, the accuracy of the measurements remains low.
Finally, the measurement method does not allow working with bars that contain an object that induces a dispersion of waves, such as a spring.
On the other hand, document WO 00/73781 discloses a technique of enclosure characterization by a remote sensor (and not in contact as in FR 2 739 925) that works thanks to vibrations of the enclosure (and not of the gas as in document FR 2 739 925) and also in some fields of frequencies much lower than those disclosed by document FR 2 739 925.
Presentación de la invención Presentation of the invention
The invention proposes to alleviate at least one of the aforementioned drawbacks. For this purpose, a method according to claim 1 is proposed according to the invention. The invention is advantageously completed by the features set forth in subordinate claims 2 to 6. 65 The invention has numerous advantages.
The new "sensor-enclosure" coupling is designed to allow transmission in a spectral band much wider than that of the prior art. The acoustic stacking formed by the enclosure, the coupling layer and the transducer can vibrate in a wide frequency band. Preferably, the bandwidth should reach 1 MHz for the current zirconium alloy enclosure walls that vibrate at approximately 4 MHz, that is 25% in relative value.
The broadband sensor allows to excite numerous gas resonances. The fact of exciting numerous resonances of the gas allows, by means of an average in an adapted treatment (which uses in particular the integral J of the gas spectral response), to get rid of the absorption of the gas, and in large part of the imperfections of the enclosure .
The sensor makes it possible to significantly increase the accuracy of the pressure measurement.
The sensor and the associated measurement procedure allow measurements on enclosures that contain a spring, the effect of the latter being then simply considered as a supplementary attenuation.
In addition, the measurement procedure in broadband allows to increase the accuracy of the measurement of the speed of the acoustic waves, and also that of the molar mass of the gas mixture.
The sensor and the measurement procedure have numerous applications.
They allow tests on nuclear fuel rods, in operation and in storage.
They allow non-destructive measurements of the pressure and molar mass of gas in nuclear fuel rods, in particular that they contain a gaseous mixture of helium, xenon and krypton mainly. The measurement is carried out on the upper part of the bar, in the expansion chamber of the fuel column, at the level of the maintenance spring.
El sensor permite entonces: The measurement procedure can be carried out in the pool at the intersections, during the stops of sections. The sensor then allows:
- --
- detectar una o varias barras de combustible no estancas en un ensamblaje que comprende una pluralidad de detect one or more non-sealed fuel rods in an assembly comprising a plurality of
barras; bars;
- - -
- ayudar a la decision para una recarga del ensamblaje de las centrales; help the decision for a recharge of the assembly of the plants;
- - -
- ayudar a la decision antes del almacenaje reversible; help the decision before reversible storage;
- --

An enclosure 1 containing a gas 2 has been schematically represented in Figures 1A and 1B. 5 Enclosure 1 is, for example, a fuel rod and gas 2 is, for example, helium or a mixture of gas.
El recinto 1 soporta un sensor acústico. Enclosure 1 supports an acoustic sensor.
10 The sensor coupled to the enclosure therefore forms an assembly formed on one side by the sensor and on the other hand by the enclosure.
15 El sensor acústico comprende: The acoustic sensor allows the measurement of at least one physical parameter of gas 2, such as the pressure of the gas in the enclosure and / or its molar mass. 15 The acoustic sensor comprises:

- un sistema 8 eléctrico que está unido al transductor 5 y que permite: an electrical system 8 that is connected to transducer 5 and that allows:
la excitación de dicho transductor 5, y 30 el análisis de las señales de respuesta. the excitation of said transducer 5, and the analysis of the response signals.
In general, the enclosure is cylindrical in shape of revolution, this in particular the case of fuel rods, for example.
35 It is understood, however, that the enclosure can be of any cylindrical shape, such as with parallel flat faces.
In the case of a cylindrical shape of revolution, preferably, all the sensor elements are concentric.
The transducer 5 may comprise a backrest 7. The backrest 7, which has reflection or absorption capabilities of the acoustic signals, has an influence on the acoustic properties of the sensor. The use of resonant backups must not disturb the spectral band of the sensor.
System 8 transmits electrical signals to transducer 5. Transducer 5 converts electrical signals into acoustic signals, and reciprocally. For this, the transducer 5 is classically of the piezoelectric type (for example a PZT material, Plomb Zirconium Titane Oxyde).
The coupling layer 6 can take various forms, such as a liquid or a solid. It is contained in the volume defined by the inner face of the transducer 5, the outer face of the enclosure 1 and wedges 9 interposed between these two two faces. Wedges 9 are optional in the case of a solid layer 6.
In the case of a solid layer 6, the good transmission of the acoustic waves at the interfaces must be ensured, either by means of gluing, or by liquid couplers in a very thin layer. If the effect of these thin layers is not negligible, it should be included in the recommended transit times in Table 1
55 más adelante. 55 later.
When the sensor is placed on the enclosure 1, it is then in the presence of an acoustic stack constituted by the wall 10 of the enclosure 1, by the coupling layer 6 and by the transducer 5. The wall 10 of the enclosure 1 and the transducer 5 they have a strong acoustic impedance, while the gas 2 and the coupling layer 6 have a
60 baja impedancia acústica. 60 low acoustic impedance.
According to the invention, the various thicknesses of piezoelectric materials 5 and of the coupling layer 6 are tuned to the free resonance frequency of the wall 10.
65 This tuning is defined as a function of the travel times of the layer 6 by the acoustic waves.
T10 is the travel time of the wall 10 of the enclosure 1 by the acoustic waves, T10 = ercinto / Crecinto, the wall thickness and the celerity of the acoustic waves in the wall being respectively Ercinto and Crecinto. The first free resonance period of this wall is then 2Q10. This resonance is called the A / 2 mode.
Tabla 1 5 T5 is the travel time of transducer 5 by acoustic waves. The transducer 5 must vibrate in the same A / 2 mode at the same frequency as the wall 10, therefore the thickness of the transducer 5 is such that T5 is equal to T10. The acoustic impedance of the transducer is of the order of 30 · 106 Pa · s · m-3 for PZT. 10 The thickness of the coupling layer 6 is also determined from T10. Several cases can be considered. 15 n es un número entero, preferentemente igual a 1. 15 n is an integer, preferably equal to 1.
The case of a transit time T6 equal to T10 / 2 (thickness called A / 4) in water (Z = 1.5 · 106 SI) corresponds to the sensor disclosed in document FR 2 739 925. It is a system of "Narrow band".
20 The accuracy of transit times must be ± 20% in a standard assembly; but the more the transit time approaches the conditions of the table, the better the reproducibility of the measurements will be, since it is then placed on one end of the sensor response.
These accuracies give, for a coupling layer that has an acoustic impedance between
Also, for a coupling layer 6 having an acoustic impedance between 3 · 106 and 15 · 106 SI
Una Figure 2 shows the impedance of a sensor that works in reflection (case of the assembly of figure 1A). A
The amplitude band of 0.3 MHz for a central frequency - that is, a resonance frequency of the free wall 10 - of 4 MHz corresponds to an unsatisfactory sensor.
Preferably, the bandwidth is of the order of 20% of the central resonance frequency, even 25%.
The two cases marked "broadband" correspond to the broadband sensor according to the invention. The acoustic sensor is designed to have a sensitivity in a spectral broadband rather than a high sensitivity at a single frequency.
More generally, it is called "broadband" at a width of the frequency band that is such that at least two, preferably of the order of ten, gas resonances are generated.
In other words, the acoustic sensor is characterized in that its frequency band of acoustic signals has a width L such that:
en la que c es la celeridad de las ondas acústicas en el gas del recinto, y D es la dimensión interior del recinto, in which c is the speed of the acoustic waves in the gas of the enclosure, and D is the interior dimension of the enclosure,
Estos The electrical part of the sensor will now be described quickly. The transducer 5 is, for example, a PZT tile (Plomb Zirconium Titane oxyde). The transducer 5 can also be a polymeric piezoelectric compound. These
Transducers can widen the spectral band of sensor utilization, decreasing the sensor quality factor.
The transducer 5 is connected to the system 8 by conductive wires 80.
The system 8 comprises, on the one hand, a voltage generator and, on the other hand, means for measuring the electrical voltage provided by the sensor as a function of the frequency V (f), or its temporal response V (t) to a pulse tensile. These measurements allow to determine the pressure and molar mass of the gas in the enclosure, as described below in reference to Figure 4.
A first step 41 of the process consists, for example, of driving the transducer 5 thanks to the system 8 with a sinusoidal voltage U of adjustable frequency in the useful domain. A frequency frequency response spectrum of voltage V (f) of Figure 3A is deduced therefrom.
Another possibility for the first stage (step 42) is to excite the transducer 5 by a series of pulses. A voltage V (t) is obtained. A Fourier transformation of the electrical signals from transducer 5 is necessary to deduce a frequency response spectrum V (f) from the system as before.
The complex V (f) spectrum (step 43) is the starting point of the signal processing.
The treatment of the spectrum from the previous two stages is then common, as shown in Figure 4.
The overall response of the sensor is composed of the resonances of gas 2 and the resonances of the acoustic sensor coupled to enclosure 1.
However, the resonances of gas 2, due to the radial standing waves in room 1, are periodic depending on the frequency. Therefore, they are easily distinguishable and separable from the other resonances.
The resonances due to gas 2 are those corresponding to peaks 20 in the curves of Figure 2.
During step 44, a mathematical transformation is carried out on the complex frequency spectrum of Figure 2 to obtain a real curve X (f) in which the resonances of the gas appear alone and rectified, with the resonances of the transducer 5 being removed from the layer 6 and enclosure 1 (as in figure 3B). This digital treatment of the spectral response of the sensor is necessary to correct the variable phases of the gas resonances. One of the possible treatments consists in subtracting from V (f) the slowly variable parts (by windowing in the temporal space for example) and then taking the signal module.
Step 53 consists in measuring the difference Δf between at least two resonance frequencies of the gas. It follows after said difference Δf, the speed c of the acoustic waves in the gas. Two cases can be presented depending on whether the measurement is carried out with one or two sensors.
In Figure 1A, transducer 5 is unique and works "in reflection". It generates the acoustic waves towards the enclosure and receives the acoustic waves from the enclosure 1. In this case, the speed c of the acoustic waves in the gas is deduced by:
c = 2DΔf c = 2DΔf
In the case of an enclosure with parallel flat faces, it is understood that D refers to the interior dimension that the waves pass through between two walls of the enclosure.
In Figure 1B, it is planned to mount around the enclosure two sensors, positioned symmetrically on either side of the enclosure 1. A transducer 5 generates an excitation acoustic signal that vibrates the enclosure and the gas, and another transducer 5 detects the response vibration. The interest of this assembly is to separate the excitation signal and the response signal. In this case, the speed c of the acoustic waves in the gas is deduced by:
c = DΔf c = DΔf
In both cases, better accuracy is achieved if the difference Δf between several resonances is measured (average of several resonances between the peaks 20 of Figure 2 for example), or if the difference Δf is determined by a mathematical treatment of the positions of the resonances (one of the possible treatments is of Fourier transformed type for example), hence the need to have a system that can excite the gas in a spectral broadband.
Step 53 can be performed on the complex spectrum V (f) from step 43, but preferably on the actual response X (f) from step 44, for which periodicity search procedures can be used.
In step 63, the molar mass M of the gas can be calculated from the speed c deduced from step 53:
10 in which R is the constant of the perfect gases, V is the ratio of the specific heats to the perfect gases, and T is the temperature.
The above relationship is valid for perfect gases. In the case of a gas mixture, corrections from the equation of real gases can be introduced.
In the case of a binary mixture of monoatomic gases, such as a mixture of helium-xenon, the measurement of the molar mass allows an immediate deduction of the mass composition x of the mixture, since:
M = xMXc + (1 -x)MHc 20 M = xMXc + (1 -x) MHc 20
Step 54 allows the measurement of gas pressure. The measurement principle is as follows. The amplitude of the resonances of the gas observed on the response X (f) of Figure 38 is proportional to the
La impedancia acustica Zgas(f) del gas, por ejemplo en una cavidad rigida de caras planas paralelas se escribe: acoustic impedance of the gas in room 1 and allows the pressure to be deduced thanks to the steps formulated to continuation. The acoustic impedance Zgas (f) of the gas, for example in a rigid cavity of parallel flat faces is written:
en la que p es la masa volumica del gas, c es la celeridad del gas,where p is the volumetric mass of the gas, c is the speed of the gas,
35 1 = -1, 35 1 = -1,
α es el coeficiente de absorcion del gas, y α is the gas absorption coefficient, and
o es la dimension interior del recinto or is the interior dimension of the enclosure
Se expresa en efecto mediante: 40 The integral I of the acoustic impedance of the gas, for a resonance, has the property of being independent of the absorption of the gas. It is expressed in effect by:
Clearly, the amplitude of the gas resonances observed on the X (f) curve is not a measurement of the gas impedance, but is modulated by the relative sensitivity S (f) of the sensor, a function that depends on the frequency. Therefore, the pressure of a measurement on a single resonance of the gas cannot be deduced.
The relative sensitivity S (f) of the sensor is a stable characteristic of the sensor, the sum of the integrals I for all
50 the resonances present in the observation window of the sensor, size called STG (Total Gas Sensitivity) is a magnitude that depends only on the gas.
55 in which Sn is the relative sensitivity of the sensor for the eonsimal gas resonance frequency.
This magnitude does not need to be known precisely, since the sensor needs calibration. In the ideal case where the sensor is sensitive in a window of width F, in which the sensitivity would be constant and equal to S, then
STG = mIS STG = my
Como las resonancias están distantes en , entonces in which m is the number of resonances present in the window. As the resonances are distant in, then
15 in which V is the ratio of specific heats to perfect gases.
In the ideal case, the STG measurement is proportional to the gas pressure. The need to have a broadband sensor is necessary to obtain numerous resonances in the integration window and stabilize the integral.
In step 54, similar to the previous ideal case, the integral J of the experimental frequency response X (f) in the field F of the sensor sensitivity is calculated:
25 Being T, the fundamental period of resonance of the gas and n, the order of the selected harmonic.
El caso n=1 es el más favorable. The case n = 1 is the most favorable.
30 Esta integral es proporcional P/c y permite una medición de la presión P si se conoce la constante X. 30 This integral is proportional P / c and allows a measurement of the pressure P if the constant X is known.
Now, the constant X is characteristic of a sensor. Unfortunately, the dimensions and properties of the sensor materials cannot be deduced with sufficient precision.
35 In addition, a theoretical and experimental study of the integral J shows that the above reasoning is only a first approximation. The integral J actually depends slightly on the absorption of the gas, which makes the function J (P) not linear (see Figure 5). The J (P) function is almost linear for high pressures (around 100 bar), on the contrary, the system response disappears for low pressures (<20 bar), since the gas is very absorbent.
In conclusion, the J (P, c) function can be obtained only by a previous calibration of the sensor with a known gas, depending on the pressure P and the nature of the gas (to vary c). For a measurement on an unknown gas, c is first deduced in step 53, and then P is deduced in step 64 from reading the calibration curves obtained with the sensor used, for speed c.
