Abstract

Cylindrical oven for measuring thermally stimulated currents in insulation coverings, consisting of an oven designed to cause polarisation by applying low to high electrical voltages followed by depolarisation by thermal stimulation in the insulating material used on electric cables. The oven consists of two cylindrical sections of constant diameter which, when joined together, form a closed circuit through which air circulates at a controlled temperature. In the upper part of the oven is the glass chamber in which the electrical cable being studied is placed horizontally. This chamber has three inlets on one side separated by a safe distance enabling connections to be made with additional instruments. The first of these inlets contains the high voltage electrode and the others contain the low voltage electrode and the thermal sensor respectively.
