Abstract

The new railway turnout lacks all the major disadvantages of present turnouts. It consists of two movable rails 8, figure 2, that can be coupled to each of the tracks comprising the turnout. The transversely movable rails are mounted on metal crossmembers that slide over profiles fixed to the long sleepers and are locked before putting the equipment into operation. The long sleepers may be convex in order to obtain the necessary camber for each track. The equipment is accompanied by two profiles 13 that transmit the longitudinal tensions of the outside tracks to the turnout, from one side to the other, enabling the equipment to operate free from longitudinal tensions. The joints are locked with jacks built into the movable rails and are strengthened by moving profiles, also built in, that are embedded in one side and in the joint 9.
