- the PCT/US2017/064498 therefore proposes a spring-loaded piston that slides relative to a pressurized gas chamber.
- the disadvantage here is that the compressibility of the gas limits the volume compensation, and the pressure in the gas would ensure a pressure increase in the working oil if the volume to be compensated for is large.
- a servomotor is provided, which moves the piston used for volume compensation, so that the working oil pressure cannot rise too much.
- This also requires pressure measurement and control.
- Such a system is complicated, expensive and prone to failure, especially because of the high temperatures.
- the volume compensation device has a volume compensation chamber which is connected to the working oil chamber and has a light oil area for volume compensation of the light oil and a heavy oil area with a heavy oil or a fluid similar to heavy oil.
- the boundary between the light oil area and the heavy oil area can be moved and the heavy oil can flow into an expansion chamber that has another heavy oil area that adjoins a borehole fluid area, with the borehole fluid being able to flow in and out of the expansion chamber via an equalization opening.
- the idea of this alternative is that there are two chambers, one for the confluence of light and heavy oil and a separate one for the confluence of heavy oil and well water (or other well fluid lighter than heavy oil, e.g. petroleum).
- the encapsulated volume compensating device 1 is used to provide volume compensation for a light oil 4 or a fluid similar to light oil used for lubrication in a working oil chamber 5 when it expands as a result of heating or contracts again when it cools down.
- the volume changes are due to three causes: Firstly, the temperature difference between the temperature when filling the light oil 4 and the temperature when the device 1 is introduced into the hot well water 6 of the borehole 2 . This temperature difference is approximately 80 to 150°C. Then, the electric motor 21 generates heat, causing a temperature difference of about 50°C. The axial bearing 19 then again contributes a temperature difference of approx. 30° C., but can lead to the highest temperature in its area. All of this takes place in an already hot environment, since geothermal energy is particularly effective when the hottest possible well water can be pumped.
- a heat exchanger 28 is provided, the function of which is to cool the light oil 4 .
- the heat exchanger 28 is arranged within the well wall 38 between the working oil chamber 5 and the well fluid 6 .
- a pump 29 is arranged, for example on the pump shaft 20. It drives an oil circuit 30 (small arrows), which supplies the oil to the heat exchanger 28. In this way, above all, the strong heat generated by the axial bearing 19 is dissipated and it is thereby avoided that the light oil 4 heats up too much and loses some of its lubricating properties.
- FIG 3 shows an alternative multi-chamber system in which the chambers are arranged differently.
- the working oil chamber 5 between the volume compensation chamber 10 and the expansion chamber 12.
- the axial bearing 19 and the electric motor 21 are arranged in the working oil chamber 5.
- the light oil 4 expands in the working oil chamber 5, it is pressed down through the connection 16 into the volume compensation chamber 10, in which the light oil area 10' and the heavy oil area 10" are located.
- a piston 9 is arranged here, which moves up and down in a cylinder 8 according to the change in volume of the light oil 4.
- the piston 9 can also be supported by a spring.
- the illustrated exemplary embodiments can of course vary, as can the exemplary embodiments according to FIG 2 and 3 be provided with a device to catch a leak or have a cooling device.
- the 3 could for example be arranged between the expansion chamber 12 and the working oil chamber 5, a device for catching a leak.
- Other variations, such as a system made up of two chambers, are also possible by transferring features from one example to the other.

Description
The invention relates to a volume compensation device, in particular for introduction into a borehole for deep well pumps (also called Electric Submersible Pumps - ESP) in geothermal energy, with a working oil chamber filled with light oil or a fluid similar to light oil and the volume compensation device.
Deep well drilling in geothermal energy reaches great depths, which can be 3000m or more depending on the structure of the earth's mantle. This depends on the depth at which the desired temperature for the use of geothermal heat prevails. Temperatures that are as high as possible are aimed for, since the energy yield is then also high. In the Upper Rhine Graben, for example, temperatures of around 170°C prevail at a depth of 3000m. However, these temperatures also present problems because the powered pump assembly located downhole and used to pump the well fluid also generates heat. In geothermal energy, the borehole fluid is the hot well water. The greatest heat generation occurs at the electric motor, but the highest temperatures can be reached at the thrust bearing that supports the drive shaft for the pump. Forces of 15 to 25 tons have to be absorbed by this bearing. Such a bearing requires lubrication using oil. However, this oil exhibits changes in volume as a result of temperature fluctuations caused by heat generation during operation of the device. Due to this, under no circumstances should well water enter the working oil chamber and contaminate the light oil there. However, the light oil should not leak into the well water either. This danger does not exist with heavy oil, as its consistency and high specific weight form a safe barrier even at high temperatures. However, the heavy oil for lubricating the axial bearing and possibly an oil filling of the electric motor for driving the pump at a price of € 600 per liter is far too expensive to serve as working oil for lubricating. Light oil, on the other hand, causes significantly lower costs. Thus, the problem to be solved is to prevent any intrusion of well water into the light oil or leakage of light oil into the well water in spite of the volume change of the working oil.
The disadvantage of this type of volume compensation is on the one hand the limitation of this compensation due to the mechanically limited expansion of the bellows.
The invention is therefore based on the object of making available a volume compensation device of the type mentioned at the outset which is robust even at high temperatures, has a simple structure and has a high compensation capacity.
The object is achieved according to the invention in that a separating layer made of heavy oil or a heavy oil-like fluid that can be displaced in accordance with the change in volume of the light oil or light-oil-like fluid is arranged as a volume-compensating device between the light oil or a light-oil-like fluid in the working oil chamber and the borehole fluid surrounding it.
The borehole fluid in geothermal energy is well water, but other possible uses, for example in oil production, should not be ruled out, in which case it would be petroleum, for example.
The basic idea of the invention is to add a layer of heavy oil (this always means a fluid similar to heavy oil, ie with a similar specific weight). use to separate the borehole fluid, i.e. usually the well water, from the light oil (this always means a fluid similar to light oil with comparable lubricating properties) in order to create a safe barrier that prevents well water from penetrating into the working oil chamber, a mixing with the light oil and thus its contamination as well as its leakage into the well water is completely excluded. When implementing this basic idea, account must then be taken of the fact that the heavy oil is heavier than light oil, collects at the lowest point and does not mix with water when it is in direct contact with it, but on the other hand the light oil floats both on the heavy oil and on the water would. It is therefore not possible to insert the heavy oil between the light oil and water without taking appropriate measures. The invention provides different measures to solve this problem.
In the simplest case, a piston could be arranged on the light oil that could be displaced in a cylinder and on which the heavy oil could be arranged above the light oil. However, since the heavy oil is immiscible with water, it can be directly adjacent to the well water as a shiftable separating layer if it is below the water.
When it comes to the technical implementation of the separation of light and heavy oil, other options can also be used than a movable piston separating these different oils:
As an alternative to this, a multi-chamber system is proposed in which the volume compensation device has a volume compensation chamber which is connected to the working oil chamber and has a light oil area for volume compensation of the light oil and a heavy oil area with a heavy oil or a fluid similar to heavy oil. The boundary between the light oil area and the heavy oil area can be moved and the heavy oil can flow into an expansion chamber that has another heavy oil area that adjoins a borehole fluid area, with the borehole fluid being able to flow in and out of the expansion chamber via an equalization opening. The idea of this alternative is that there are two chambers, one for the confluence of light and heavy oil and a separate one for the confluence of heavy oil and well water (or other well fluid lighter than heavy oil, e.g. petroleum).
This multi-chamber system is then expediently designed in such a way that the volume compensation chamber has a connection from its light oil area to the working oil chamber and from its heavy oil area a connection to a further heavy oil area of the expansion chamber.
Such a multi-chamber system can be constructed in different ways:
It can be provided that the working oil chamber is arranged below the volume compensation chamber and the expansion chamber above the volume compensation chamber. Alternatively it can also be provided that the volume compensation chamber is arranged below the working oil chamber and the expansion chamber above the working oil chamber, the connection from the volume compensation chamber to the expansion chamber being a pipe connection bypassing the working oil chamber.
For the embodiment in which the working oil chamber is arranged below the volume equalization chamber and the expansion chamber is arranged above the volume equalization chamber, it is proposed as an expedient further development that a device for catching a leakage of heavy oil into the light oil and for returning it to the Heavy oil is arranged in the volume compensation chamber. A concrete implementation for the collection and return of the heavy oil provides that a heavy oil collection tank with a heavy oil sump and a pump is arranged below the mechanical seal to catch a leakage of heavy oil, which transports the collected heavy oil back to the volume compensation chamber via a return line.
A further advantageous development provides that a heat exchanger is arranged, which extracts heat from the light oil and transfers it to the borehole fluid. A pump can be provided for this purpose, which supplies the light oil to be cooled to the heat exchanger by means of an oil circuit.

The encapsulated

The
Also shown is an expedient embodiment of the invention by means of which a
Furthermore, a
There is also a
