Description

The invention relates to a method for producing a window or door profile according to which a decorative pattern is generated from color drops by means of digital printing on at least one surface of the window or door profile.

The invention further relates to a window or door profile with a base body which has a decorative pattern on at least one surface, which is produced by a printing process on the surface of the base body.

Today, profiles for windows or doors are essentially made of wood, metal or plastic. For many people, wood is still the most valuable material, so the window and door industry tries to imitate wood surfaces on metals or plastics. For this purpose, a decorative film can be applied to the metal surface or the plastic surface. However, this is complex and, due to the complex geometries of the profiles, relatively difficult.

From the US 2001/049010 is a method and an apparatus for printing elongated profiles with a polychrome decoration according to the features in the preamble of claims 1 and 8 known.

From the WO 2007/131754 A1 A method for printing window profiles made of plastic with a decor is known, according to which a decor template is broken down into true-color partial images, which result in a superimposed pattern, and the partial images are printed on the substrate with the colors provided, for example by means of inkjet printing, as a result of which printed decor is created on the substrate. It should be possible to print window profiles in small series with little effort with a true-to-color reproduction of decor templates.

The present invention has for its object to provide a way with which the print image of window or door profiles printed by means of a digital printing process can be improved.

This object is achieved with the method mentioned at the outset in that the ink drops are up to a distance from an edge of the window or Door profile in a first direction, in particular vertically, are printed on the surface of the window or door profile and that the ink drops are printed in the area of the surface defined by the distance from the edge in a second direction, which is different from the first direction, in particular is weird.

Furthermore, the object of the invention is achieved with the window or door profile mentioned at the beginning, in which a layer thickness of the decorative pattern in the region of at least one edge of the base body is smaller than the layer thickness of the decorative pattern in a region adjoining this region.

The advantage here is that this procedure can be used to produce a printed image, that is to say the decorative pattern, on the surface which has fewer or no “blurred” areas. In other words, the sharpness of the printed decorative pattern can be improved. On the one hand, this can be achieved by the fact that less color gets beyond the edge into other surface areas of the window or door profile, in which the decorative pattern produced with it should have a different appearance. This "overprinting" of the edge is due to tolerances of the window or door profile, as a result of which edges of the window or door profile do not run exactly parallel to the printing direction. So if the edge jumps back slightly, it will be overprinted, so that drops of color get into areas that should not belong. Color inaccuracies or printing inaccuracies can thus be avoided. In addition, this can avoid a coarsening of the printed image in certain areas, which is triggered by the fact that ink drops that inadvertently reach the edge cover a longer path before they hit a surface and thus spread apart when they hit the surface.

The ink drops are preferably printed in several steps, the ink drops being printed on the surface in the first direction in a first step, and in a further step following the first step the direction of flight of the ink drops compared to the direction of flight of the ink drops in the first step so that the drops of paint hit the surface of the window or door profile in the area of the edge in the second direction in the second direction in the first step. It is with it the control of the printing process, in particular the print heads of the printing device, can be formed more easily since the direction of flight of the ink fountains does not have to be changed within one step, but the printing is divided into several steps and the direction of flight can be left unchanged within one step.

According to an embodiment variant of the method, it can be provided that the color drops are applied in the second step at an angle to the surface of the window or door profile, which is selected from a range from 20 ° to 70 °. In particular with an angle from this area, it can be achieved more easily and with greater certainty that the paint drops on the one hand spread far enough in the direction of the edge of the base body, without however providing areas with a substantial amount of paint that are not with the respective paint drops should be printed.

According to the inventive method, it is provided that the distance to the edge is at least as large as the permissible deviation of the actual dimensions of the window or door profile from the target dimensions. It is thus possible to include the tolerances that the window or door profile has in the print image without the print image itself, that is to say the decorative pattern, being excessively disturbed thereby. This makes it easier to take tolerances into account when printing. This means that the printout can also be smoothly run out.

It can further be provided that the paint drops which are applied to the surface of the window or door profile in the first step are only partially dried or hardened, so that mixing takes place with the paint drops of the second step. With this variant of the method it can be achieved that the ink drops that are printed on the window or door profile in the area of the edge already begin to mix with those already on the surface of the window or door profile so that they are better stick in the edge area. This makes it easier to prevent the color from running off the edge. In general, a more true-to-color representation of the decorative pattern can thus be achieved, since the color drops of the layers of color drops printed on top of one another are allowed to mix over a longer period of time and thus to form mixed colors.

According to another embodiment variant of the method, it can be provided that the window or door profile is produced using an extrusion process, the window or door profile is then calibrated and that the first step is carried out immediately after the calibration of the window or door profile. With this embodiment variant it can therefore be provided that the still warm profile is printed. A corresponding shortening of the process can thus be achieved, since the residual heat of the profile can at least partially be used for (partial drying or (partial) hardening of the paint drops. In addition, a more detailed design of the decorative pattern can be achieved since the paint drops settle on the profile surface widen less when hitting them.

It can also be provided that the distance of the nozzles from which the paint drops emerge from the surface of the window or door profile is between 1 mm and 20 mm. By maintaining this distance, it is also easier to avoid printing beyond the above-mentioned edge of the base body, but printing the entire surface of the unprinted surface immediately adjacent to the edge. The quality of the printed decorative pattern can thus be further increased.

Since the layer thickness of the decorative pattern in the surface area immediately adjacent to the edge mentioned can be less than in the remaining area, it can be advantageous if a higher color saturation is generated in the area not printed in the first step than in the area printed in the first step areas. The quality of the printed decorative pattern can also be further improved with this embodiment variant.

Fig. 1 shows a section of a window or door profile 1 in cross section.

In the embodiment variant shown, the window or door profile 1 is a hollow chamber profile 2 which has at least one hollow chamber 3, preferably a plurality of hollow chambers 3 separated from one another by webs 4.

The hollow chamber profile 2 consists of a plastic, for example PVC, or comprises at least one plastic. The latter means that the hollow chamber profile 2 can also consist of a WPC (Wood Plastic Composite).

However, it is also possible for the hollow chamber profile 2 to consist of a metal.

Although the design of the window or door profile 1 as a hollow chamber profile 2 made of plastic is the preferred embodiment variant, this can also be carried out differently. For example, it can consist of another material, such as wood, and / or it can be a profile without hollow chambers 3. For example, it can be advantageous if a wooden profile is given a different decor, in particular a different grain, since in this case cheaper types of wood can be imitated, which means that not only costs can be saved, but also more environmentally friendly production of Windows or doors can be made, for example, by not having to use tropical woods, but working with local woods.

Since profiles for the production of windows or doors are known from the prior art, reference should be made to them, in particular with regard to the geometric design or the materials used.

The window or door profile 1 has a base body 5, on which a decorative pattern 7 is arranged or formed on at least one surface 6.

The decorative pattern 7 is generated on the surface 6 by means of a digital printing process. There are therefore no restrictions with regard to the optical design of the decorative pattern 7, since in principle any decorative pattern 7 can be produced by means of digital printing.

An inkjet printer is preferably used to produce the decorative pattern 7. The latter sprays ink drops 10 from a print head 8 with at least one nozzle 9 onto the surface 6 of the base body 5.

Since inkjet printers are also known from the prior art, reference is made to the relevant prior art for further explanations, such as with regard to the generation of the ink drops 10 by means of CIJ (Continuous Ink Jet) or DOD (Drop On Demand), the controller of the at least one print head 8 with the at least one nozzle 9, the control of the trajectory of the ink drops 10, etc.

As a rule, four colors are used for color printing in digital printing processes, namely the color tones cyan, magenta, yellow and the key color black (corresponding to the CMYK color model). The colors can be pigment-based or dye-based. To further optimize the color space, so-called light colors can also be used. This makes pastel colors easier to produce.

For color printing, the individual colors can be printed one after the other or simultaneously. If they are printed one after the other, printing is preferably carried out with the window or door profile 1 at a standstill and with a movable print head 8.

If they are printed at the same time, the printing is preferably carried out in a single-pass process with a plurality of print heads, which can be arranged one behind the other in the printing direction.

Inkjet printers are preferably used which have a plurality of print heads 8 and a plurality of nozzles 9 per print head 8, it being further preferred if at least one print head 8 is present per color.

In principle, it is possible that mixed colors are used premixed. As a rule, however, these are produced either by direct mixing on the substrate and / or purely optically by correspondingly placing color drops of the primary colors next to one another, as is known per se.

In the process to which in Fig. 1 A first method step is shown, the ink drops 8 with the different colors are successively printed on the surface 6. For this purpose, in the first step the ink drops 8 are not completely printed up to an edge 11, but the printing is interrupted in the first step when a distance 12 from the edge 11 is reached, so that the ink drops 8 of the first step are at least in the Distance 12 from the edge 11 are.

In the exemplary embodiment shown, the edge 11 is not a side edge of the base body 5 of the window or door profile 1, but rather an edge which is formed in the course of the surface 7, for example by the formation of a fold which e.g. can serve as a stop.

It should be noted that the concrete representation of the geometry of the fold in Fig. 1 has no restrictive character.

The edge 11 is thus formed between two regions of the surface 6 which run in different directions, for example at least approximately horizontally, as in the left part of the figure Fig. 1 , and at least approximately vertically, as in the subsequent part of the Fig. 1 , The edge 11 can thus arise, for example, by forming a depression 13 in the surface 6.

However, it should be mentioned that the printing on the surface 6 or generally the visible surfaces of the window or door profile 1 can be carried out in accordance with this description, that is to say that the direction of flight of the ink drops 8 is changed in one or more edge regions, that is to say not only in the region the too Fig. 1 described edge 11. The statements in this description can also be used for these further edges of the window or door profile 1, for example also side edges, for example with regard to the distance 12.

When the minimum distance from the edge 11, ie the distance 12, is reached, the printing on the surface 6 is interrupted in this embodiment variant of the method.

In a second step of the method that follows the first step, the area of the surface 6 that is not printed in the first step and immediately adjoins the edge 11 is printed. For this purpose, the direction with which the ink drops 10 strike the surface 6 is changed. In the simplest case, the print head 8 is placed at an angle, as shown in Fig. 2 is shown, so that the ink drops 10 also strike the surface at an angle. The printing direction itself, that is to say the feed direction of the print head 8, remains unchanged. It is therefore printed in the direction of the course of the edge 11, ie in the longitudinal direction of the window or door profile 1. In other words, the edge 11 runs in the printing direction. (In the 1 and 2 the print direction is perpendicular to the paper plane.)

Due to this inclination of the print head 8 or its nozzles 9, the individual ink drops 8 spread out more oval (in the printing direction) on the surface 6 compared to the vertical direction, so that the print head 8 can remain further away from the edge 11 and still paint up comes to edge 11.

Spreading "oval" means that the print drops do not form a circular surface when viewed from above, but an oval surface.

As a result of this procedure, a decorative pattern 7 is formed on the surface 6 of the window or door profile 1, which has a layer thickness 14 that at least covers an area 15 an edge 11 of the base body 5 is smaller than in an area 16 adjoining this area 15, as is the case with Fig. 2 can be seen. As a result, less ink gets into the area 17 after the edge 11 (based on the printing direction). The indication "less" refers to the amount of color compared to printing the surface vertically from above.

The reason why color arrives in the area 17 after the edge 11 is that the basic body 5 does not have the desired dimension due to the production, but rather the actual dimension is or can be provided with permissible tolerances. Because of these tolerances, the edge 11 may not run exactly parallel to the printing direction. The color originating from the area 16 in the area 17 in turn leads to inaccuracies or blurring of the decorative pattern 7. This can be avoided or this effect reduced with the method or methods described in this description.

If you wanted to print the entire area with one pass, you would have to print the tolerance over the edge 11 in order to reliably print everything even with larger profiles due to tolerance. This would inevitably lead to the nozzles 9 hitting the void causing overprinting in the window or door profile 1, which is undesirable. To prevent this, the edge 11 is printed obliquely.

At this point it should be pointed out that the decorative pattern 7 extends over the entire surface 6 or over all visible surfaces of the base body 5 of the window or door profile 1. It is therefore not only partial areas of the surface (s) 6 that are printed entirely.

In the embodiment variant of the method described above, the ink drops 10 are only printed on the surface in one layer. However, it is also possible for the area 16 already printed in the first step to be overprinted again in the second step, in particular also with the inclined print head 8. In general, the decorative pattern 7 can be produced from a plurality of layers of ink drops 10 printed one above the other, at least a layer is printed at least in the area immediately after the edge 11, that is to say in the area 15, with an oblique trajectory of the ink drops 10 (in the above sense).

Another embodiment variant of the second step of printing on the window or door profile 1 is shown. Again, the print head 8 is set with the nozzles 9 at an angle to the surface 6 of the window or door profile 1. The direction of flight of the color drops 10 is different from the direction of flight of the color drops 10 in the first step. Unlike the in Fig. 2 In the embodiment variant shown, the print head 8 is now inclined in the other direction, ie not in the direction of the printed surface 6 but away from it in the direction of the area 17 of the window or door profile 1

In Fig. 3 it is also indicated by dashed lines that the area 17 adjoining the area 15 printed in the second step can also be printed. Provision can be made for the area 16 and the area 17 to be printed in the first step and for the area 15, which is still unprinted around the edge 11, to be printed with the inclined nozzles 9, as a result of which the "gap" between the two already exists printed areas 16, 17 is closed.

Instead of the actual inclination of the printhead 8 or the printheads 8 for printing on the area 15 immediately adjacent to the edge 11 (generally an area immediately adjacent to an edge), it can also be provided that only the trajectory itself of the ink drops 10 is changed, so that the ink drops 10 strike the surface 6 of the base body 5 at an angle. For example, this can be achieved with the aid of an electrical field through which the ink drops 10 must pass during printing, provided an electrically conductive ink or paint is used. The ink drops 10 can be deflected more or less from their original trajectory, depending on the strength of the electric field. Other physical effects can also be used or exploited for this purpose.

The invention thus generally proposes a method for producing a window or door profile 1, according to which the decorative pattern 7 is generated on at least the surface 6 of the window or door profile 1 by means of digital printing from color drops 10, the color drops 10 up to the distance 12 from the edge 11 of the window or door profile 1 running in the printing direction is printed on the surface of the window or door profile 1 in a first direction, in particular perpendicularly, and the ink drops 10 are printed on the surface by the distance 12 region of the surface 6 defined by the edge 11 are printed in a second direction, which is different from the first direction, in particular is oblique.

It should be noted that it is also possible for the printing direction to run perpendicular to the edge 11, for example in Fig. 2 left to right. The printing direction in the longitudinal direction of the window or door profile 1 is preferred, however, since the method can thus be better embedded in the production line for a fixed or door profile 1.

By changing the direction of flight of the ink drops 10, the overprinting can be avoided or reduced, so that no or less ink, which for the area 15 that immediately adjoins the edge 11, reaches the second area 17 directly adjoining the edge 11.

If the decorative pattern 7 is constructed in multiple layers, a basic color can be used for the individual layers, for example one of the colors of the CMYK color scheme.

In order to achieve a better adhesion of the decorative pattern 7 to the surface 6, this can be provided in advance with an adhesion promoter, which can also be printed on, if necessary, for example with an inkjet printer.

It can further be provided that, after the decorative pattern 7 has been produced, it is still completely overprinted with a transparent protective lacquer and / or with a transparent gloss lacquer, in order to be able to better protect the decorative pattern 7 from the weather.

According to an embodiment variant of the method, it can be provided that the color drops 10 are applied in the second step at an angle 18 to the surface 6 of the window or door profile 1, which is selected from a range from 20 ° to 70 °, in particular from a range between 30 ° and 60 °. The angle 18 is the angle which the trajectory of the ink drops 10 or the longitudinal central axis of the print head 8 enclose with the surface 6, as is evident from this Fig. 2 can be seen.

In the embodiment variant of the method according to Fig. 3 If the angle 18 is between 110 ° and 160 °, in particular between 120 ° and 150 °, it is therefore complementary to the above-mentioned angle 18.

As already mentioned above, the method can also be used to mitigate or completely prevent tolerance-related errors of the window or door profile 1 with regard to their influence on the decorative pattern 7 printed on the surface 6 of the window or door profile 1. For this reason, according to the inventive method, the distance 12 to the edge 11 is at least as large as the permissible deviation of the actual dimensions of the window or door profile 1 from the target dimensions. For example, the distance 12 can be at least between 0.5 mm and 2 mm.

According to one embodiment variant, the width of the print in the second step is preferably selected so that the first step prints slightly overlapping in the visible areas and, depending on the tolerance situation, the area running over the edge becomes wider or narrower. Since the tolerance of the window or door profile 1 changes little over the profile course, this edge is relatively equal to the edge 11 and thus makes a nice picture. If required, a smooth discharge can also be achieved here by running out the printed image.

It can also be provided that the paint drops 10, which are applied to the surface of the window or door profile 1 in the first step, are only partially dried or hardened, so that mixing takes place with the paint drops 10 of the second step as soon as they are on the first layer can be printed on ink drops 10. Partial curing can take place, for example, by means of UV light or by only partially removing the solvent from the inks.

As stated above, the window or door profile 1 is preferably a plastic profile. These are usually produced using an extrusion process. According to a further embodiment variant, the printing device, ie at least the print head 8 or the print heads 8, can also be integrated into the production line for the profiles by: or it is arranged according to a calibration level for the profiles. The printing can thus at least partially take place immediately after the calibration.

A distance 19 of the nozzles 9, from which the paint drops 10 emerge, from the surface 6 of the window or door profile 1 can be between 1 mm and 20 mm, in particular between 1 mm and 8 mm. This distance 19 denotes the distance of the surface 6 in the extension of the inclined nozzles 9, as shown in FIG Fig. 2 is shown. If the nozzles 9 are placed vertically on the surface, the distance of the nozzles from the surface can be between 1 mm and 2 mm.

In order to be able to compensate for a smaller layer thickness of the decorative pattern 7 in the areas 15 directly adjoining the edge 11, it can be provided that a higher color saturation is generated in the area 15 which is not printed in the first step or generally the obliquely printed area than in the areas Areas printed in the first step 16. This can be determined mathematically by changing the mixture of the number of ink drops accordingly or can be controlled with a PC.

It is further possible that the changed distance of the nozzle (s) 9 from the surface 6, which results from the change in direction of the trajectory of the ink drops 10, is also taken into account arithmetically with a corresponding program of a PC, in order to ensure the quality of the printed image, that is to say the decorative pattern 7, continue to improve.

The size of the distance 12 from the edge 11 can be stored accordingly in a PC, so that in the process, the PC or generally a computer is used to determine on the basis of the software when printing for a particular profile, i.e. a certain profile cross section, the distance 12 is reached. However, it is also possible that the distance 12 from the edge 11 is continuously determined during printing, for example by means of a camera, and on the basis of this data the time for the change in the direction of flight of the ink drops 10 is determined in the above sense.

It is also possible for the area 15 to be covered around the edge 11, for example with a seal.

With the combination of the Fig. 1 and 3 The method steps illustrated make it possible to produce a printed window or door profile 1 which allows a smooth transition of the printed image from the area 16 in the area 17 to the area 15 around the edge 11, ie with colors gently fading out on both sides of the edge 11 in this area 15 ,

Due to the inclined position of the print head 8 or the nozzle (s) 9, the print image, i.e. the decorative pattern are distorted, since the real surface is now extended in accordance with the angle of attack (angle 18) of the printhead 8 or the nozzle (s) 9 and thus the ink applied from the printhead 8 or the nozzle (s) 9 is compressed Image prints.

However, I do not believe that this fact has to be included in the patent. However, it can be helpful to underline the complexity of skewing the printhead.

The exemplary embodiments show or describe possible design variants, it being noted at this point that various combinations of the individual design variants with one another are also possible.

For the sake of order, it should finally be pointed out that for a better understanding of the structure, elements in the figures have not necessarily been shown to scale.
