  • A pallet consisting of a plate made of multiple layers of corrugated cardboard glued together and glued directly to the feet is known from European patent EP 0 283 799 .
  • EP1602582A2 presents packet placing system for use with an automated packaging machine which includes glueing system for a wrapper of the packet where glue is applied to a face of the packet, which is then placed on the outside of the wrapper of the packaged product. Solution according to the invention however is intended for rather heavy packets where tilting the packets during the process might be troublesome
  • US4897980A discloses apparatus for forming a bulk package and including bottom tray placement means for placing a bottom tray on a support, stacking means for stacking layers of objects on the bottom tray, top cap positioning means for positioning a top cap over the upper-most layer of stacked objects, and post member positioning means for positioning post members at preselected spaced locations between the bottom tray and top cap. The apparatus according to US4897980A however allows for attachment of the feet from the top. Proposed invention allows to apply cardboard feet from the underneath without needing to tilt the whole pallet or package.
  • The aim of the invention is to provide a new method for the storage and transport of cardboard and other goods and an apparatus for gluing cardboard feet.
  • The method according to this invention whereas cardboard feet are glued directly to the lower surface of the pile (stack) of cardboard or other goods or products, and wherein the spacing of the cardboard feet allows the transport of cardboard with the use of a hand pallet truck or a forklift truck works as follow. A stack of corrugated cardboard or other goods fastened preferably with polypropylene tape located on a conveyor for delivering the goods is measured to give the width and position on the conveyor and then gradually moving through the gate of sensors its length is measured. The obtained parameters are sent to the controller, which determines the amount of cardboard feet needed for the lining of a stack of cardboard or other goods, from a feet tray cardboard feet are fed out one by one on a transverse conveyor and are covered up with glue. Then a cardboard foot is moved by a distance depending on the width of the stack of cardboard or other goods, the next pieces are prepared in the same way - minimum 2 pcs., which together form the first row of cardboard feet glued under the stack. A complete row is then pushed with the use of a system of feet pushing onto a pressing conveyor in such a way that it protrudes over the edge by the length to allow gluing the first row of feet, and then the pressing conveyor rises pushing the cardboard feet to the bottom sheet in a stack of cardboard in order to bond them. After leaving the pressing conveyor the stack of cardboard or other goods is moved away by a distance determined by the controller to bond the next row of feet, and then the process of preparing and bonding the next row of feet is repeated, the cycle is repeated until the last row of feet is bonded, and the number of rows bonded depends upon the length of the stack and is at least 2.
  • The number of the feet glued is dependent on the size and weight of the stack and is not less than four pieces. Preferred spacing and the amount of cardboard feet bear the load evenly over the entire surface.
  • The cardboard pallet foot consists of one or more cardboard patterns, between which are wavy corrugated cardboard patterns of the direction of the waves perpendicular to the two cardboard patterns. In another solution, the cardboard feet are made of corrugated cardboard. Cardboard feet are in the shape of a cuboid or cylinder.
  • The invention presents the apparatus for gluing cardboard feet to a stack of cardboard or other goods having a glue application station, sensors measuring the size and location of the stack of cardboard or other goods wherein it consist of four aligned belt conveyors: one conveyor for delivering the goods, a transverse conveyor for preparing feet, pressing conveyor and conveyor for receiving the stack. It further consist of a system of pushing feet, anda feet tray. Between the conveyor for delivering the goods and the pressing conveyor there is a difference in levels associated with the height of cardboard feet. The device is equipped with sensors that measure the size and location of the stack of cardboard or other goods in order to maintain the process of feet gluing fully automatic. The conveyor for preparing cardboard feet is additionally mounted on rails to allow raising and lowering of the conveyor.
  • The solution in accordance with the invention allows to eliminate the use of wooden pallets, plastic or cardboard, of single or multiple use of different sizes depending on the size of the stack of cardboard or other goods.
  • Thanks to the use of the present invention, the following effects and technical usage have been achieved:
    • versatility of the solution for bonding the same cardboard feet in an amount and at intervals dependent only on the size and weight of the cardboard pile,
    • a significant reduction in costs, as the cost of manufacturing and application of multiple use wooden pallets, plastic or cardboard ones is many times higher,
    • total elimination of storage costs typical of returnable pallets of different sizes and made of different materials,
    • increase of efficiency and thereby reducing the costs because the process of gluing the feet is faster and simpler than underlaying conventional returnable palettes of different sizes and made of different materials,
    • total automation of the process of under-gluing.
  • The invention will be explained in more detail based on the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 presents an axonometric view of a stack of cardboard or other goods, Fig. 2 is a plan view of the apparatus for gluing cardboard feet in plan view and side view, Fig. 3-9 show the different stages of gluing cardboard feet and so: Fig. 3 and Fig. 4 present the cardboard stack on the conveyor belt before and during the measurement of the dimensions of the stack, Fig. 5 stack of cardboard or other goods in a position to stick the first row of cardboard feet, Fig. 6 stack of cardboard or other goods at the time of sticking a row of the feet, Fig. 7 and Fig. 8 repeating the cycle in order to bond successive rows of cardboard feet Fig. 9 complete stack of cardboard or other goods with all the cardboard feet ready for storage and transport.
  • Shown on Fig. 1 ready for storing and transporting a stack of cardboard or other goods consists of a stack 7 of cardboard or other goods fastened, for example with polypropylene tape not shown in the figure, and cardboard feet 8 glued with the use of an adhesive not shown in the figure. Setting cardboard feet 8 enables the transport with the use of a hand pallet truck or forklift truck. The number of the feet glued is dependent on the format and weight of the stack and is not less than four pieces. Preferred spacing and the amount of feet bear the load evenly on the entire surface of the stack.
  • The device for gluing cardboard feet is aligned in series four belt conveyors: one conveyor for delivering the goods 1, a transverse conveyor 2 for preparing cardboard feet, pressing conveyor 3 and conveyor 4 for receiving the stack. It also consist for a system 6 of pushing feet feet tray 5, glue application station not seen in the figure, and the device is equipped with sensors that measure the size and location of the stack of cardboard or other goods. Between the conveyor 1 for delivering the goods, and the pressing conveyor 3 there is a difference in levels associated with the height of the cardboard feet.
  • The bonding process is carried out fully automatically using sensors which measure the size and location of the stack of cardboard or other goods, and the controller which are not shown in the drawing constituting the electronic apparatus of the device.
  • The apparatus according to the invention functions in such a way that the stack of corrugated cardboard or a different goods fastened, for example, with polypropylene tape located on the conveyor 1 for delivering the goods is measured to give the width and position on the conveyor and then when it is gradually moving through the gate of the sensors, where its length is being measured. The resulting parameters are sent to the controller, which determines the number of feet required for the lining of the stack of cardboard or other goods. From the feet tray 5 the cardboard feet 7 are fed out one by one on the transverse conveyor 2 for preparing feet and are covered, from above, with glue. After coating the cardboard with an adhesive the foot is shifted by the distance depending on the width of the stack of cardboard or other goods. The next pieces are prepared in the same way (totally including min 2 pcs.), which together form the first row of cardboard feet glued under the stack. A complete row is then pushed by means of a system 6 of feet pushing on the pressing conveyor 3. Thereafter, a stack of cardboard or another product located on the conveyor 1 for delivering the goods is moved over the pressing conveyor 3 in such a way that it protrudes over the edge of a length making it possible to adhere the first row of feet. At this point, the pressing conveyor 3 rises and presses up the cardboard feet to the bottom sheet in a stack of cardboard in order to bond them. After leaving the pressing conveyor 3 a stack of cardboard or a different product is moved away by a distance determined by the controller to glue the next row of feet. The process of preparing and bonding the next row of feet is repeated. The whole cycle is repeated until the last row of feet is bonded. The number of the rows bonded depends upon the length of the stack and is at least 2 pieces.
