Abstract

The object of the invention is a partitioned projectile designed especially for hand-held firearms such as a cartridge of a gun or a pistol, wherein the bullet is made from a combination of solid and soft plastics or of a similar material and intended to temporarily disable a target or to cause minor trauma. The partitioned projectile consists of a bottom part 2 of the projectile and an upper part 3 of the projectile. The bottom part 2 of the projectile is made from a harder polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) plastic, whereas the upper part 3 of the projectile is made from a softer polyurethane plastic (TPU).

Description

PARTITIONED PROJECTILE
The object of the invention is a partitioned projectile designed especially for hand-held firearms such as a cartridge of a gun or a pistol, wherein the bullet is made from a combination of solid and soft plastics or of a similar material and intended to temporarily disable a target or to cause minor trauma, as such projectile can be stopped by a slightly thicker piece of clothing. The invention belongs to class F 24B 30/00 of the International Patent Classification.
The technical problem that is successfully solved by the present invention is a constructional solution to manufacturing of a projectile, for instance of a cartridge of a hand-held firearm intended to temporarily disable a target and having improved ballistic properties and more precise hits.
In known embodiments, cartridges of hand-held firearms designed to temporarily disable a target and having no killing properties are made from a softer material, plastic or rubber. Such projectile - bullet is arranged in a conventional or plastic casing. When a bullet is fired from a conventional hand-held firearm, a bullet in a barrel does not start rotating owing to its softness; consequently, its flight is imprecise. Hitting a target with such bullet is therefore very difficult and imprecise. A partitioned projectile of the invention is a bullet (e. g. 7.62 mm; 5.56 mm or 9 mm) made from plastic or a similar material and composed of an upper part from polyurethane plastic (TPU) and a bottom part from polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) plastic.
The invention will be explained in more detail by way of an embodiment and through the use of the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a cross-section of a 7.62 mm or 5.56 mm calibre bullet with a partitioned projectile of the invention;
Figure 2 shows a cross-section of a 9 mm calibre bullet with a partitioned projectile of the invention;
Figure 3 shows a partitioned projectile with grooves in side view and a view from below.
A partitioned projectile of the invention, both on a 7.62 mm or 5.56 mm calibre, as shown in Figure 1 , is arranged within a jacket 1 with an explosive charge with a percussion cap. The partitioned projectile consists of a bottom part 2 of the projectile and an upper part 3 of the projectile. The bottom part of the projectile is made from a harder polyethylene (PE) plastic or polypropylene (PP) plastic, whereas the upper part 3 of the projectile is made from a softer polyurethane plastic (TPU). The bottom 2a, whereas a second sealing ring 3a of the upper part 3 fits onto the upper edge of the jacket 1.
Figure 2 shows an embodiment of the partitioned projectile of the invention on a 9 mm calibre. A partitioned projectile consisting of a bottom part 2' of the projectile and an upper part 3' of the projectile is arranged in a jacket 1 ' with an explosive charge with a percussion cap. The bottom part 2' of the projectile is made from a harder polyethylene (PE) plastic or polypropylene (PP) plastic, whereas the upper part 3' of the projectile is made from a softer polyurethane plastic (TPU). A combination consisting of the bottom part 2' and the upper part 3' of the projectile is inserted into the jacket 1 ' such that the sealing ring 3a' is arranged in the upper edge of the jacket V.
Due to such composition of the partitioned projectile the projectile rotates on its way through a barrel because it has a harder bottom part 2, 2'. Hitting a target with a partitioned projectile of the invention is considerably more precise than with known variants of an non-partitioned projectile made from plastic or rubber.
The partitioned projectile of the invention can be provided in its bottom part 2, 2' with grooves 4 designed to stabilise the projectile at lower speed and to have impact on reducing the speed of the projectile on its trajectory
(short range ammunition). The grooves 4 are cut up to the first sealing ring
2a on the projectile.
