Description

Domaine techniqueTechnical area

The invention relates to the field of alpine skiing. It relates more specifically to a heel for safety fixing. It is more particularly a new geometry to optimize both the transmission of efforts and minimize the impact of the stiffness of the heel on the behavior of the ski.

In general, a ski safety binding comprises a stop intended to receive and hold the front part of the boot, and a heel piece which cooperates with the rear of the boot.

More specifically, the heel has a body on which a jaw is pivotally mounted. This jaw cooperates with a protrusion of the heel of the shoe. A release spring is provided to lock the jaw in the closed position, and prevent the exit of the boot under the effect of vertical forces, of an intensity lower than a predetermined threshold.

The body comprises a recoil spring which exerts longitudinal forces directed forward, so as to maintain the engagement of the front part of the boot in the abutment, and allow the triggering of the latter in the case of torsion forces greater than another predetermined threshold.

The heel is mounted on the ski by means of several securing means which may for example be screws distributed over the heel.

In the rest of the description, we will talk about the attachment of the heel on the ski to cover situations where the heel is mounted directly on the board coming into contact with the latter, but also the cases of figures where the heel is mounted on a raising platform, itself secured to the board.

The body and the jaw of the heel have a longitudinal translational capacity, to compensate for the compression of the recoil spring, which is observed in particular when putting on the ski. This also makes it possible to adapt the length of the binding to the length of the shoe by acting on an adjusting mechanism. For this, the body is installed in a guide that is itself secured to the ski.

In general, and as for example described in the documents FR 2 889 076 and FR 2,695,323 , the guide is held on the ski by screwing points distributed as spaced apart as possible on its surface. This also allows to have a distribution of the transmission of the forces exerted on the board, both in compression at the time of fitting, far from the support, in traction if necessary.

However, such a distribution has the disadvantage of modifying the intrinsic rigidity of the ski by adding that of the heel which can be high.

An alternative provision has been described in the document FR 2,347,066 . Such a heel is mounted on a suspended platform which is fixed to the ski only by its front end. The heel is secured to this platform by various points distributed over its entire length. The back of the heel, on which rests the heel of the shoe is suspended, and the elasticity of the platform allows a high movement of the body and the jaw of the heel. Such a solution is not really satisfactory, insofar as the transmission of vertical forces is done after deformation of the platform, with a certain inertia and loss of energy. Such a device is therefore not suited to a practice that requires high precision and high responsiveness.

Another solution has been described in the document EP 1 072 294 . The heel described in this document is mounted on the ski by means of a viscoelastic pad which extends over a large part of the surface of the heel. Mechanically, the heel is secured to the ski via a pivotal connection, so that the heel is subject to a pitching movement as a function of the deformation of the ski, and supports exerted.

This relative movement of the platform with respect to skiing is a source of loss of precision that can be detrimental in certain types of practice.

Exposé de l'inventionPresentation of the invention

The invention therefore aims to find a combination that allows both to limit as much as possible the influence of the stiffness of the heel on the deformability of the board, while still allowing an excellent transmission of the forces exerted by the skier while maintaining the nominal behavior of the safety fastener in terms of tripping.

  • ▪ un corps incluant un ressort de recul ;
  • ▪ une mâchoire apte à coopérer avec une fraction de la chaussure de l'utilisateur, et agencée pour pivoter par rapport à ce corps autour d'un axe transversal ;
  • ▪ un guide recevant ledit corps avec capacité de déplacement en translation longitudinale ;
The invention relates to a safety binding heel for alpine skis comprising:
  • ▪ a body including a recoil spring;
  • A jaw capable of cooperating with a fraction of the user's boot, and arranged to pivot relative to this body about a transverse axis;
  • ▪ a guide receiving said body with displacement capacity in longitudinal translation;
  • ▪ means for securing the heel on the ski namely front and rear mounting points, distributed over a fraction of the surface of the guide.

According to the invention, this heel is characterized in that the rear mounting points are located in front of a line 20 millimeters behind the plumb of the pivot axis of the jaw on the body, when the body is placed in its middle longitudinal position.

To determine the position of the pivot axis for positioning the most rear fastening means, use the fastening in its off-set configuration, for which the recoil spring is not active. In the case where the body can have different positions depending in particular on an adjustment to the shoe size, it will take as a middle position, the position of the body midway between the positions of extreme settings forward and the rear.

In other words, the heel is secured to the ski mainly by its front part, or more precisely on the part that extends to the back of the shoe. The part of the heel behind this level therefore has no anchor point on the ski.

Complementarily, this rear portion, located behind the rear mounting points has a lower face which deviates upwards, relative to the plane by which the guide rests on the ski, defined by the underside of the guide in the area where the means of joining are present.

In other words, thanks to the rear mounting points, the invention allows a transmission of forces that is effective, especially when donning where the user exerts a strong support to counter the springs tripping and recoil.

This efficient transmission is done in combination with unclamping of the ski's back, which retains its intrinsic rigidity qualities, which allows the ski to deform in bending, even in the area of the body of the heel. In addition, after the boot, the recoil spring does not induce counter-arrow of the ski, and does not disturb or very little the natural camber of the ski. These advantages are appreciable especially in the context of a sporting practice.

In practice, the lower face of the guide can move upwards relative to the plane by which it rests on the ski from a contact line at most 20 mm away from the pivot axis of the jaw on the body. In other words, the part of the heel which is cantilevered and raised relative to the ski, begins at a level located more or less twenty millimeters from the plumb line of the jaw axis.

From a structural point of view, the guide may comprise a rail, preferably made of a rigid material and in particular of metal, and inside which the body is able to move to compensate the compression of the recoil spring, or also to allow a longitudinal adjustment to the size of the shoe. This guide can be made in one or more pieces, be in a homogeneous material or based on a combination of several materials. In a particular embodiment, the guide may combine a metal rail, for example based on aluminum, and a trim piece based on injected polymer material, loaded with reinforcing fibers, glass or carbon, for example.

Advantageously in practice, the heel may include an automatic brake mechanism. This mechanism includes a heel rest plate by which it is mounted on the guide, in its front part.

In this case, the most rearward fastening means may be located above this plate.

Additionally, the automatic brake mechanism may include a movable paddle, which allows the blades of the brake to pivot in an inactive position when the skier is wearing the ski. In this case, the heel holding means located foremost can be in line with this pallet, when the pallet is in the raised position, the ski is thus loosened.

Various provisions can be adopted to increase the stiffness of the guide, and in particular the cantilevered area, to prevent it from being deformed under the effect of the support exerted by the skier.

Thus, in an alternative embodiment, the guide may have reinforcing side walls on either side of the bead plate of the brake mechanism.

In another variant, it is possible for the guide to have an area of increased width and / or thickness near the rearmost connecting means, up to the contact line, the door-end zone of the door-to-door. false. Unbridling is then observed by the fact that the part of the ski situated under the door overhang of the guide is not constrained.

In a particular embodiment, the length of the guide zone in contact with the ski is less than the length of the guide zone located behind the contact line, these lengths being measured projected on the ski. In other words, the cantilevered portion of the heel is longer than the portion that rests on the ski.

According to another aspect of the invention, the longitudinal distance separating the longitudinally spaced apart fastening means may be less than the length of the guide zone located behind the nip. In other words, the distance between the most extreme securing means is less than the zone of the cantilevered guide, or even preferably less than two thirds of this length. This distance between the securing points is generally less than the length of the guide zone in contact with the ski.

In practice, the means of securing the heel to the ski can be made in different ways. It can thus be screws mounted through passage holes formed in the guide, or else hooking tabs located under the underside of the guide, and for mounting the heel on a platform, with advantageously increased adjustment capacity of the longitudinal position of the heel. These advantages are significant especially in the case of skis for rental.

In a particular embodiment, the lower face of the cantilevered zone may include a compressible portion, to dampen the possible impacts of the cantilevered area on the top of the ski. This portion can be reported under the guide, or be an integral part of it.

In another variant, it may be advantageous to limit the deflection of the guide upwards, by providing a mechanism forming a stop against which the guide comes into contact in case of severe deformation of the ski.

  • The figure 1 is a brief perspective view of a heel according to the invention.
  • The figure 2 is a side view of the heel of the figure 1 .

Manière de réaliser l'inventionWay of realizing the invention

As illustrated in figure 1 , the heel 1 is mounted directly on the board 2 , it being understood that it is recalled that in some variants, this heel can be mounted on the board by means of an enhancement platform.

The heel 1 consists essentially of a guide 3 in which is inserted a body 4 with longitudinal translation capacity, on which is pivotally mounted a jaw 5 , pivotable relative to the body about the axis 6 .

In the front part, this guide 3 is secured to the board 2 and can receive various accessories, and in particular an automatic brake 8 .

As we see in figure 2 beyond a point 10 forming a line of contact, the rear portion of the heel is spaced from the upper face 11 of the board 2 , and is therefore slightly cantilevered.

Note that the heel illustrated in figure 2 comprises an automatic brake mechanism 8 , which comprises a heel rest plate 20 , which is housed on the front portion of the guide 3 , and more precisely between two side walls 16 of the guide with respect to its rear portion. This brake mechanism 8 also comprises two retractable arms 21 which are pivotally mounted relative to the front of the bead plate 20 . The two arms 21 are secured in the central part of the brake to form an inverted U-shaped structure which receives at the median plane of the attachment a pallet 24 , itself pivotally mounted relative to the junction zone 25 of the two arms.

This pallet 24 is also connected to the heel rest plate 20 via a connecting rod 26 which limits the excursion of the brake, and keeps the pallet 24 in a substantially horizontal position, to receive the support of the heel of the shoe when donning.

As can be noted in the figure 3 the heel plate 20 of the brake mechanism 8 has a screw-through hole 29 which allows the brake 8 to be secured to the guide 3 .

As we see in figure 4 , it is noted in practice that the rear anchor points 30 of the guide on the ski are located in front of the plumb of the axis of pivoting 6 of the jaw 5 relative to the body 4 , the body 4 being placed in its central longitudinal position vis-à-vis its potential adjustment capacity. In the form shown, these anchoring points 30 are situated at a distance D1 of the order of 45 mm from the line of this axis 6 .

The guide 3 of the heel is also secured to the ski through two mounting points 31 located in front of the guide.

These anchor points 31 are visible at the figure 4 where only the guide and the brake have been represented. It is found that the distance between the front 31 and rear 30 mounting points, in the horizontal part of the guide, is relatively small, compared to the length of the portion of the guide which is cantilevered, and which starts back from the contact line 10 . In the illustrated form, this distance D2 is about 60 mm, while the length of the cantilever is 125 mm. Still in this example, the length of the contact zone is about 100 mm.

From a structural point of view, the guide, as illustrated in figure 4 , has an increased rigidity, in particular near the contact line 10 and up to the proximity of the holes of the rear screws 30 , so as to prevent, or at least to very strongly limit the deformations of the part of the cantilevered guide.

Thus, the guide has vertical walls 18 , which extend from the proximity of the contact line 10 to the rear of the guide. In the cantilever portion of the guide, these walls protect the inner rail 17 by laterally covering the areas in which the body 4 slides.

In the rear part of the guide, these walls 18 are relatively thin. In the area near the nip, these walls have portions 16 which are enlarged and thickened to impart increased rigidity. Beyond, forward, these walls form portions 19 again relatively thin, which surround the heel rest 20 of the automatic brake 8 .

In the forms represented in Figures 1 to 4 , the heel is attached directly to the board, or on an intermediate platform, through through screws. This platform can be mounted in various locations of the ski, including various known damping solutions and means for mounting the platform on the ski However, the invention also covers variants not shown, in which the heel piece is mounted with a sliding capacity on an intermediate platform, or even directly on the ski, through slide mechanisms. In this case, the means of securing the heel must also allow this sliding, and are in the form of tabs cooperating with the slide formed in the platform or in the ski.

  • ▪ une excellente transmission des efforts, par le positionnement des points de solidarisation sensiblement à l'aplomb de la partie extrême arrière de la chaussure, où sont exercés des efforts les plus importants, en particulier lors du chaussage ;
  • ▪ une bonne résistance à l'arrachement du fait du positionnement approprié des moyens de solidarisation, et d'un dimensionnement adéquat du guide ;
It follows from the above that the heel made according to the invention has the advantage of combining both:
  • ▪ excellent transmission of forces, by the positioning of the attachment points substantially in line with the rear end of the shoe, where are exerted the most important efforts, especially when donning;
  • A good resistance to tearing due to the appropriate positioning of the securing means, and adequate sizing of the guide;
  • ▪ partial unclamping of the ski by limiting the contact area between the heel and the ski, and the location of this area in the front portion of the heel.
