Definitions
- the present invention relates to the field of internal combustion engine starting systems and more particularly to the field of direct starting systems of an internal combustion engine.
- a particular operating mode of the starting of the internal combustion engines is the Stop & Start mode.
- This operating mode is based on a direct start which is carried out without the use of an auxiliary drive means but only with a direct injection of fuel into a cylinder of the engine whose valves, intake and exhaust, are closed and triggering the combustion of the mixture by a spark.
- the combustion causes the displacement of the crankshaft of the engine which allows combustion in other cylinders of the engine.
- This direct start mode allows fast and quiet operation when the engine is in a stop / start mode of operation for an automatic restart of the engine, for example when the engine is stopped at a red light. stopping and starting are detected by the clutch and clutch control.
- the direct start method may fail, especially when the conditions for triggering the combustion are not optimal, for example when the air / fuel mixture is not homogeneous.
- the document FR2851302 proposes a solution to improve the reliability of the direct start method.
- This solution relies on activation of a compressor during the stopping phase of the engine to fill the cylinder which will then stop in a suitable position for the next direct start.
- This technique improves start-up by charging at least one cylinder with fresh air for the next direct start while preventing residual gas return from the engine exhaust line to the combustion chamber.
- This solution makes it possible to optimize the ignition and combustion properties of the air / fuel mixture which is in the combustion chamber of at least one of the cylinders for starting direct next. It can be noted, however, that this solution depends on an optimal homogeneity of the air / fuel mixture so that the direct start can operate.
- the document EP1464833 proposes a solution different from the previous solution while resting on a similar principle with a device which makes it possible to prepare the air / fuel mixture in the combustion chamber by pre-injecting a predetermined quantity of fuel during the stopping phase of the engine .
- This solution also optimizes the ignition and combustion properties of the air / fuel mixture present in the combustion chamber of at least one of the cylinders in anticipation of the next direct start. If the direct start does not work, a new fuel injection can be performed to improve the air / fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. Nevertheless, this solution also depends on an optimal homogeneity of the air / fuel mixture so that this direct start can operate easily.
- the document US2004 / 0177829 provides a solution for the optimal homogeneous mixture when injecting fuel into the cylinder by vaporizing the fuel by several successive injections into the combustion chamber just before the combustion of the air-fuel mixture in the direct starter device.
- the duration of successive injections into the combustion chamber can also be optimized to become a function of the temperature of the chamber.
- a solution makes it possible to obtain a homogenization of the air / fuel mixture, the guarantee of a combustion when triggering the direct start control is not ensured.
- the document US2004 / 0173165 proposes a method for increasing the vaporization of the fuel and thus improve the homogeneity of the air / fuel mixture when the temperature of the combustion chamber of the engine is below a threshold temperature value. If this method complements the solution proposed by the document US2004 / 0177829 , she does not However, this does not guarantee combustion when triggering the direct start command.
- the document DE10328123 proposes another solution which consists in carrying out a succession of injections and sparks.
- the object of the present invention is to propose a solution which makes it possible to overcome at least one disadvantage of the prior art, and in particular to propose a method and a system for direct starting of an internal combustion engine for identifying operating conditions. difficult start of an engine and implementation of a solution for triggering the combustion of the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber.
- the management method of an internal combustion engine according to the invention is characterized in that, a parameter determined by the motor being its temperature, the method comprises a step of parameterizing a succession of steps of charging an ignition coil to generate a succession of sparks whose respective duration of each charging step increases when the temperature engine decreases.
- the management method of an internal combustion engine according to the invention is characterized in that, the determined parameter of the engine being its temperature, the method comprises a step of setting the generation of a succession sparks so that when the engine temperature decreases, the time between two consecutive sparks during the generation of a succession of sparks decreases to increase the chances of meeting between the air-fuel mixture and one of the sparks.
- the method for managing an internal combustion engine according to the invention is characterized in that the step of determining the success / failure of the combustion of the air-fuel mixture by detecting a modification of the engine speed.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a device that allows the implementation of one of the variants of the method of the invention.
- a start-up management system of an internal combustion engine operating in Stop & Start mode arranged to allow a direct start, comprising at least one combustion chamber fed by a fuel injector, the combustion chamber.
- combustion being provided with a spark plug powered by an ignition coil, characterized in that the ignition coil is arranged to allow the spark plug to emit a succession of sparks.
- the starting management device of an internal combustion engine is characterized in that the device comprises a computer means connected to the ignition coil, adapted to allow the implementation of a method according to the invention.
- the present invention aims to improve the starting, or more exactly the restart of an engine in a Stop & Start mode of operation, that is to say an operating mode where the engine is at the same time. Stop at a stop or a traffic light and requires a quick restart.
- the internal combustion engine comprises at least one combustion chamber (9) fueled by an injector (3) and gas at a supply valve.
- the combustion of the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber (9) is triggered by a spark (16) that is produced by a spark plug powered by a charge coil (2).
- the injection of the fuel into the combustion chamber (9) is carried out as in any known engine via a ramp (4) of fuel provided with a pressure sensor (5) and fed by a high pressure pump (6).
- Feeding of the fuel rail (4) can involve, as presented on the figure 1 , a valve (7), for example a solenoid valve, for regulating the flow pressure which supplies the high-pressure pump, and a valve (8), for example a solenoid valve, mounted on the fuel rail (4) at the outlet pump (6) and which allows a pressure regulation by short circuit to allow a return of fuel in the supply conduit of the pump (6).
- a valve (7) for example a solenoid valve
- (8) for example a solenoid valve
- All the means and elements of the system of the invention are controlled and managed by a computer (1), referenced ECU (Engine Control Unit) on the figure 1 .
- the method of the invention is managed by the computer (1) of the system. This method is based on the generation of a spark train by the candle fed by the coil (2) to facilitate ignition of the air-fuel mixture which occupies the combustion chamber (9), once the combustion chamber (9) was fueled.
- the generation of a succession of sparks (16) is triggered when the direct ignition of the mixture has failed.
- the determination of an ignition delay is carried out by measuring the time to ignite the air-fuel mixture by taking as a starting point the emission of a first spark.
- the combustion of the air-fuel mixture is detected by a modification of the engine speed level (17) and the crossing of a threshold value.
- the measured duration is then compared with a threshold value preprogrammed or stored in memory means. When the measured time is greater than the threshold value, a delay in ignition of the mixture of the combustion chamber (9) is detected and a failure of the ignition is then determined.
- the determination of an ignition failure and thus a failure of the engine starting by the computer (1) triggers a generation order of a succession of sparks (16) by the candle fed by the coil (2). ) to increase the chances of triggering the combustion of the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber (9).
- the generation of a string of sparks (16) is managed by the computer (1) of the system which allows adapting the succession of sparks (16) to one or more motor parameters.
- an injection signal (12) is transmitted by the computer (1) to a fuel injector (3), then a control allowing the production of a spark string (16) is transmitted to the coil (2) so that a charge is effected accordingly.
- a spark (16) can be generated by the spark plug only after the coil (2) is loaded.
- the succession of sparks is then characterized by the charging time (13) of the coil (2) and by the duration (14) between a spark (16) and the charge of the coil (2) to generate the spark which follows.
- the duration (15) between two successive sparks (16) can be reduced.
- the minimum duration (15) between two sparks (16) then corresponds to the charging time of the coil (2).
- the succession of sparks is parameterized as a function of the engine temperature measured by a thermometer.
- the temperature of the engine can for example be determined from a sensor (10) for monitoring the temperature of the engine coolant.
- the energy of the spark generated by the spark plug is proportional to the duration (13) of the charge of the coil (2), also called dwell time .
- dwell time the duration (14) between a spark (16) and the charge of the coil (2) for generating the spark that follows is then reduced to compensate for the increase in the charging time of the coil (2) while maintaining a relatively high spark emission frequency (16).
- the computer (1) again determines the success of the combustion by detecting a variation of the engine speed (17) including the crossing of a threshold value.
- the determination of the success of the combustion of the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber (9) by the computer (1) generates a stop control of the generation of sparks by the coil and the spark plug (2).
- the computer (1) controls the startup of the conventional electric starter which allows in particular the cold start of the engine.

Description
figure 1 .
