Description
REFRIGERATOR COMPRISING A SHELF THE POSITION OF WHICH CAN BE
CHANGED
[0001] The present invention relates to a refrigerator comprising a shelf, the position of which can be changed in the door.
[0002] In refrigerators, at the inner side of the door, one or more shelves are used whereon food and beverage containers are disposed. While high containers are disposed on the shelf, one or more shelves above this shelf are required to be removed or replaced. When low containers are disposed, dead spaces remain between the said container and the shelf above. In the state of the art, foldable or telescopic shelf assemblies are used in order to create flexible usage volume providing containers of several sizes to be stored.
[0003] On the refrigerator door, at the inner side of the door, shelves, which generally extend along the width of the door and which are arranged as one on the top of the other, are located. In the state of the art, one of the shelves being one on top of the other can be moved onto the other, and the volume which is emptied by the moved shelf is utilized. However, particularly when not in use, movable shelf mechanisms occupy much space in the door, the usage area of which is limited.
[0004] In the Korean Utility Model Document No KR900006008, in a refrigerator, movable door shelves, which are used by their positions being changed, are explained.
[0005] The aim of the present invention is the realization of a refrigerator comprising a movable shelf which provides the dead space remaining between the shelves to be utilized and which occupies a small space.
[0006] The refrigerator realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is explicated in the claims.
[0007] The refrigerator of the present invention comprises a fixed shelf and a movable shelf which is connected to the fixed shelf such that the movable shelf can rotate around the horizontal axis, and which covers the front side of the fixed shelf in the closed position and which forms an additional carrying surface under the fixed shelf in the open position. PatXML 2/9 BB1818-7.820
[0008] The movable shelf has two arms and a base joining the arms, and the arms and base are brought together such that they will form a U-shaped frame, and the base of the movable shelf is hung on the fixed shelf by means of the arms which are rotatably connected to the side walls of the fixed shelf.
[0009] In the closed position, the arms of the movable shelf extend towards the front from the side walls of the fixed shelf, and the base of the movable shelf becomes adjacent to the front wall of the fixed shelf and vertical, or covers the front side of the front wall without contacting the front wall.
[0010] In the open position whereto the movable shelf is brought by being rotated downwards around the horizontal axis, the arms of the movable shelf extend from the side walls of the fixed shelf downwards and the base of the movable shelf extends under the fixed shelf in the horizontal position as being hung on the fixed shelf by means of its arms. When the movable shelf is in the open position, its base forms an additional carrying surface, which extends in parallel with the bottom wall of the fixed shelf, in the dead space under the fixed shelf.
[0011] In an embodiment of the present invention, on the top edge of the fixed shelf front wall, an inclined chamfer is situated, and on the front edge of the movable shelf base, a guardrail, which overlaps with the said chamfer in the closed position, is located. In the open position of the movable shelf, the guardrail prevents the items disposed on the base from falling.
[0012] In another embodiment of the present invention, on the chamfer of the fixed shelf, a detent means and on the guardrail of the movable shelf, a locking hole is situated. In the closed position of the movable shelf, the detent means is locked to the locking hole by being inserted thereto and thus, the movable shelf is provided to stand on the fixed shelf in the closed position.
[0013] In another embodiment of the present invention, the movable shelf is produced from wire. In this embodiment, the base of the movable shelf has an arcuate structure and thus, provides containers such as wine bottle and beverage can to be carried.
[0014] In another embodiment of the present invention, on the refrigerator door, a PatXML 3/9 BB1818-7.820
support protrusion is situated that has a horizontal top surface, which supports the fixed shelf from its bottom wall and whereon the fixed shelf is seated, and a vertical front surface, against which the arms of the movable shelf bear in the open position. Beside the function of carrying the fixed shelf and the movable shelf, the support protrusion provides the arms of the movable shelf to remain in the vertical position and hence, the base in the horizontal position when the movable shelf is in the open position.
[0015] In the refrigerator of the present invention, the movable shelf has a simple structure and is easily connected to the fixed shelf, and in the closed position wherein it is not in use, it occupies a very small space and in the open position, it provides the dead space remaining under the fixed shelf to be utilized.
[0016] The refrigerator realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where:

[0043] The refrigerator (1) comprises a door (2), a body (3) and a fixed shelf (4) disposed at the inner side of the door (2).
[0044] The fixed shelf (4) is shaped as an open-top box and has a rear wall (5) adjacent to the inner surface of the door (2), a front wall (6) located across the rear wall (5), two side walls (7) closing the lateral sides of the fixed shelf (4) and a bottom wall (8) closing the bottom side of the fixed shelf (4).
[0045] The refrigerator (1) of the present invention comprises a movable shelf (11)
[0046] - which has two arms (9) located at its right and left, and a base (10) extending between the arms (9), and the arms (9) and the base (10) of which are joined such that they will form a U-shaped frame,
[0047] - which is hung on the side walls (7) of the fixed shelf (4) by means of its arms (9),
[0048] - the arms (9) of which extend towards the front from the side walls (7) in the closed position whereto the movable shelf (11) is brought by being rotated upwards, and the base (10) of which becomes adjacent to the front wall (6) of the fixed shelf (4) and vertical, and
[0049] - the arms (9) of which extend from the side walls (7) downwards in the open position whereto the movable shelf (11) is brought by being rotated downwards, and the base (10) of which forms a carrying surface under the PatXML 5/9 BB1818-7.820
fixed shelf (4) by becoming horizontal, hung on the end of the arms (9).
[0050] A movable shelf (11) occupies space only in front of the front wall (6) as much as the wall thickness of the movable shelf (11) base (10) and does not occupy space at the top and bottom sides of the fixed shelf (4). When the movable shelf (11) is in the closed position, items cannot be loaded onto its base (10).
[0051] When the movable shelf (11) is in the open position, its base (10) forms an additional carrying surface, which extends in parallel with the bottom wall (8), in the dead space under the fixed shelf (4) and thus, items can be loaded onto the base (10).
[0052] In any position whereto the movable shelf (11) is brought, the usage of the fixed shelf (4) does not change in terms of the user. While the movable shelf (11) is brought to the closed position from the open position or to the open position from the closed position, the position of the fixed shelf (4) remains fixed, and in its both positions, the movable shelf (11) does not prevent the opening (A) at the top of the fixed shelf (4) from being reached. Being vertical to the door (2), the depth (D) of the movable shelf (11) base (10) is almost equal to the height (H) of the fixed shelf (4) front wall (6), and in the closed position, the base (10) of the movable shelf (11) completely covers the front wall (6) without projecting to the sides and thus, enhances the aesthetic appearance and furthermore, in the open position, since the base (10) does not extend further than the front wall (6), the base (10) does not pose an obstacle while the door (2) is being closed.
[0053] In an embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerator (1) comprises an inclined chamfer (12) which is located on the top edge of the fixed shelf (4) front wall (6), and a guardrail (13) which is located on the front edge of the movable shelf (11) base (10) and which has the same inclination as the chamfer (12) and which prevents the items placed on the base (10) from falling in the open position of the movable shelf (11), and which overlaps with the chamfer (12) in the closed position of the movable shelf (11) (Figure 2, 3 and 4).
[0054] In another embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerator (1) comprises a detent means (14) located on the chamfer (12) of the fixed PatXML 6/9 BB1818-7.820
shelf (4) and a locking hole (15) located on a guardrail (13) of the movable shelf (11). In the closed position of the movable shelf (11), the detent means (14) is locked to the locking hole (15) by being inserted thereto and thus, the movable shelf (11) is provided to stand on the fixed shelf (4) in the closed position. When the movable shelf (11) is desired to be brought to the open position, it is pulled with a certain force by the user and thus, the detent means (14) is provided to be released from the locking hole (15) and the movable shelf (11) is brought to the open position.
[0055] In another embodiment of the present invention, the movable shelf (11) is produced from wire. In this embodiment, furthermore, the base (10) of the movable shelf (11) has an arcuate structure and thus, provides containers such as wine bottle and beverage can to be carried (Figure 6, 7).
[0056] In another embodiment of the present invention, the refrigerator (1) comprises a support protrusion (18) located on the door (2) and having a horizontal top surface (16), which supports the fixed shelf (4) from its bottom wall (8) and whereon the fixed shelf (4) is seated, and a vertical front surface (17), against which the arms (9) of the movable shelf (11) bear in the open position (Figure 2, 4). In the closed position of the movable shelf (11), the support protrusion (18) does not contact the movable shelf (11) and only by means of its top surface (16), the support protrusion (18) carries the fixed shelf (4) and the movable shelf (11) which stands closed on the fixed shelf (4). In the open position of the movable shelf (11), the arms (9) of the movable shelf (11) bear against the front surface (17) of the support protrusion (18) by becoming vertical. Thus, beside the function of carrying the fixed shelf (4) and the movable shelf (11), the support protrusion (18) provides the arms (9) of the movable shelf (11) to remain in the vertical position and hence, the base (10) in the horizontal position when the movable shelf (11) is in the open position.
[0057] In the refrigerator (1) of the present invention, by performing very few changes in the existing fixed shelf (4), the movable shelf (11) is connected to the fixed shelf (4). The movable shelf (11) has a simple structure and is easily connected to the fixed shelf (4), and in the closed position wherein it is not in use, it occupies a very small space and in the open position, it PatXML 7/9 BB1818-7.820
provides the dead space remaining under the fixed shelf (4) to be utilized. [0058] It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited to the embodiments disclosed above and person skilled in the art can easily introduce different embodiments. These should be considered within the scope of the protection postulated by the claims of the present invention.
