Die Pumpe ist aus drei plattenförmigen Gehäuseteilen aufgebaut, weshalb solche Pumpen auch als "Plattenpumpen" bezeichnet werden. Von den sandwichartig zusammengesetzten Platten nimmt die mittlere die Pumpenkammer mit dem in diesem Fall zwei Pumpenzahnrädern auf (Pumpenplatte). Beidseitig der Pumpenplatte liegen an ihr dichtend Gehäusedeckel an, die den Pumpenraum in Axialrichtung verschließen (erste und zweite Deckelplatte). In den gegenüberliegenden Deckelplatten befinden sich miteinander fluchtend angeordnete Bohrungen zur Aufnahme von Wellenzapfen, die beidseitig zumindest das Antriebszahnrad axial überstehen und mit diesem drehfest verbunden sind. Die die Wellenzapfen aufnehmenden Bohrungen in den Deckelplatten weisen ein geringes Übermaß gegenüber dem Zapfendurchmesser auf, so dass bei geringem Spaltmaß ein gewisses radiales Lagerspiel zwischen den Drehzapfen und den Gehäusedeckeln verbleibt. Zur Gehäuseaußenseite hin sind drei der Lagerbohrungen durch je einen Deckel dichtend verschlossen. Die zu pumpende Flüssigkeit, die in den Lagerspalt eintritt und diesen dadurch schmiert, kann also nicht nach außerhalb der Pumpe austreten. Damit auch seitens des Antriebsdrehzapfens, der durch den Gehäusedeckel nach außerhalb des Pumpengehäuses geführt ist, keine zu pumpende Flüssigkeit austreten kann, besitzt der Gehäusedeckel an dieser Stelle eine Stopfbuchse oder dergleichen zur Aufnahme einer Wellendichtung.
