Description

Signaleinrichtung für elektrochirurgische Instrumente, Adapter zum Anschluss eines elektrochirurgischen Instruments Signaling device for electrosurgical instruments, adapter for connecting an electrosurgical instrument
Beschreibungdescription
The invention relates to an electrosurgical instrument comprising at least one display device for displaying at least one status information of a control unit and an adapter for connecting an electrosurgical instrument.
.Electrosurgical instruments have been used for many years in high frequency surgery (RF surgery) to coagulate or even cut biological tissue. In coagulation, a high-frequency current is passed through the tissue to be treated, so that this changes due to protein coagulation and dehydration. The tissue contracts in such a way that the vessels are closed and bleeding is stopped. After successful coagulation, the tissue is completely severable while avoiding heavy bleeding, both with the help of high-frequency current, as well as by mechanical means. ,
Electrosurgical procedures can be performed with monopolar and bipolar instruments. In the monopolar technique, the current path usually leads from the electrosurgical instrument via the tissue to be treated to a neutral electrode. Alternatively, bipolar instruments may be used, which are formed with two mutually electrically isolated sections. The current path in this case extends from a first section of the electrosurgical instrument via the tissue to be treated to a second section of the electrosurgical instrument.
For the successful execution of an operation by means of an electrosurgical instrument, a high degree of user-friendliness is important. The electrosurgical instrument should be intuitive to use and should contain all the necessary information be easily available. In particular, this information includes status information provided, for example, by an RF generator.
Particularly problematic is the fact that often several electrosurgical instruments are connected to an RF generator. In these cases, a choice must be made as to which of the instruments should be supplied with an RF voltage. An assignment of the outputs of the RF generator to a specific instrument, be it a bipolar clamp or a monopolar hook electrode, is often difficult.
Various electrosurgical instruments are known from the prior art.
This power indicator on the handle indicates information about the power delivered, such as the presence of high or low voltage.
From DE 40 12 545 Al a handle for an electrosurgical instrument is known, which is characterized in that the electrode-side end of the handle, a light exit opening is provided, which is fed by a located in the RF generator cold light generator. The light source serves to illuminate the surgical field better.
Die DE 199 43 792 Al offenbart ein elektrochirurgisches Instrument, bei dem der daran angeordnete Handgriff eine Anzeigevorrichtung aufweist, die es ermöglicht, betriebsspezifische Informationen, beispielsweise Betriebsmodus des elektrochirurgischen Instruments abzulesen.DE 199 43 792 A1 discloses an electrosurgical instrument in which the handle arranged thereon has a display device which makes it possible to read operation-specific information, for example the operating mode of the electrosurgical instrument.
The instruments described above are very complex.
Based on this prior art, it is an object of the present invention to provide an easy and comfortable to use electrosurgical instrument. This object is achieved by an electrosurgical instrument according to claim 1.
In particular, the object is achieved by an electrosurgical instrument, comprising at least one display device for displaying at least one status information of a control unit, wherein the display device is arranged on the electrosurgical instrument and oriented in the distal direction, that the display device in an active state, an operating field of electrosurgical instrument illuminates.
The display device may be a single light emitting diode or an array or matrix of light emitting diodes. These are preferably active elements which indicate at least one status of a control unit and / or of the HF generator and / or of the electrosurgical instrument itself. In one embodiment, an active state of the display device may be defined as the state in which the display device is illuminated. The active state of the display device preferably correlates with an active state of the electrosurgical instrument in which it is immediately ready for operation, for example a current is present for carrying out a coagulation process.
The advantage of the present invention is therefore that the display is not only used to provide the user of the device or the electrosurgical instrument information about its status, but at the same time fulfills a lighting function, which in the actual intervention by means of the electrosurgical Instrument is helpful.
In one embodiment, the electrosurgical instrument includes a handle, wherein the at least one display device is disposed at a distal end of the handle. That is, the display device is arranged so that it radiates in the direction of the actual tool head of the electrosurgical instrument and thus illuminates the area where the electrosurgical instrument is to be used. The electrosurgical instrument described has particular advantages in a hand-held instrument. In a further embodiment, the display device is designed to emit colored light. The different hues can either be used to indicate different status information or to identify different electrosurgical instruments. For example, the hue of the display device of the electrosurgical instrument could correspond to a hue on the RF generator to indicate that, among a variety of electrosurgical instruments, the present one is active, or that an RF voltage is applied to the present electrosurgical instrument.
In a further embodiment, the at least one status information indicates a concern of a voltage on the electrosurgical instrument and / or a power indication and / or an operation mode of the control unit. As already mentioned, it makes sense to indicate the presence of a voltage when a distinction has to be made between a plurality of instruments which are partly or all connected to the same HF generator. Even if only a single electrosurgical instrument is used, it may be useful to particularly mark the active state of the electrosurgical instrument to avoid erroneous operation. The color indication can visualize a current intensity and / or a voltage and / or a frequency and / or a particular frequency pattern. For example, it has been found that coagulation of tissue requires a different voltage pattern (first mode of operation) than the voltage pattern used to cut through a corresponding tissue (second mode of operation). The color coding could therefore serve to distinguish the modes of operation.
In a further embodiment, the display device is coupled into a supply voltage of the electrosurgical instrument. The display device can thus be partially or fully fed by the supply voltage, which is present for example for a coagulation process on the electrosurgical instrument.
The said object is further solved by an adapter according to the present claim 6. In particular, the object is achieved by an adapter for connecting an electrosurgical instrument, wherein the adapter comprises:
An advantageous distinction between different electrosurgical instruments can thus result from the fact that the adapter to which the corresponding electrosurgical instrument is connected comprises a display device which identifies the corresponding instrument or adapter. The indicator on the adapter may also serve to provide status information to the user of the electrosurgical instrument. The adapter may be, for example, the end of a supply cable of the electrosurgical instrument, the adapter preferably comprising a plurality of terminals for connecting the instrument. In one embodiment, the adapter may include controls.
In a further embodiment, the at least one supply line is designed to provide an HF voltage. That is, the adapter provides the supply voltage for the electrosurgical instrument and is preferably electrically connected to the RF generator.
In a further embodiment, the display device is designed to emit colored light. The display device can either be designed so that it can emit a multiplicity of different hues, for example red, green, blue. The individual shades can be used to convey different status information. Alternatively, a plurality of adapters may be provided, in each of which an adapter is adapted to deliver a particular color. A distinction from several adapters and thus connected electrosurgical instruments can be made in this case on the basis of the hue. Preferably, the display device is an active light element that emits light on its own. Alternatively, the display device may be provided by means of an optical waveguide which transports generated light waves to the adapter. For example, the light wave generator can be provided within the RF generator. When the adapter is connected to the HF generator, an automatic coupling of the light source assigned to the connection takes place.
In a further exemplary embodiment, the display device is designed to display an applied voltage, in particular an HF voltage. Thus, the status information displayed by the display device may indicate whether the connected electrosurgical instrument or adapter is active, i. is supplied with a corresponding voltage.

FIG. In the following description, the same reference numerals are used for the same and like parts.
Fig. 1 shows an electrosurgical instrument 10, which is composed of a handle 12 and a bipolar instrument head 14. The handle 12 has an elongated shape, at the distal end of which the bipolar instrument head 14 attaches to perform a surgical procedure. The instrument head 14 has a first electrode 16 and a second electrode 16 'against which a voltage for coagulation or for cutting tissue is applied. The electrosurgical instrument 10 further includes a display device 50 at the distal end of the handle 12 that is configured to illuminate the bipolar instrument head 14 and a distal surgical field. Furthermore, the display device 50 is configured to display at least one status information. In the present case, the display device 50 indicates whether a voltage is applied to the electrodes 16, 16 '.
Das erfindungsgemäße elektrochirurgische System lässt sich grob in die folgenden vier Komponenten gliedern (vgl. hierzu Fig. 2):The electrosurgical system according to the invention can be roughly divided into the following four components (see FIG.
elektrochirurgisches Instrument 10electrosurgical instrument 10
- HF-Generator 20RF generator 20
In der in Fig. 3 gezeigten Ausführungsform sind dies die HF-Leitungen 41 , 41'.To provide the electrosurgical instrument 10 with a voltage and / or frequency pattern suitable for the particular operation, the system includes the control unit 40 which acts on the RF generator 20 to provide a corresponding output. In order to be able to act on the behavior of the control unit 40, the system has an input device, in particular a foot switch 30. By means of the foot switch 30, for example, a specific operation mode can be set on a specific instrument 10. The footswitch 30 can also be used to select from a plurality of instruments 10 connected to the RF generator 20 that are then supplied with a corresponding RF voltage. The display device 50 serves to provide information about the control unit 40, the RF generator 20 or the electrosurgical instrument 10. In particular, the display device 50 can according to the invention indicate an activation state of the electrosurgical instrument 10. For this purpose, as shown in FIG. 3, the display device 50 is coupled into the electrical connection between the HF generator 20 and the electro-surgical instrument 10. FIG. 3 shows a first embodiment in which the display device 50 is arranged on a bipolar electrosurgical instrument 10. In such a constellation, there are usually two direct electrical lines between the RF generator 20 and the electrosurgical instrument 10. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, these are the RF lines 41, 41 '.
As shown in FIG. 4, the display device 50 may be composed of a first light-emitting diode 54 and a second light-emitting diode 54 ', wherein the light-emitting diodes 54, 54' are respectively connected in parallel to the electrodes 16, 16 'of the bipolar instrument head 14 on the first RF Line 41 and the second RF line 41 'are arranged. The supply lines of the electrosurgical instrument 10 supply power to the display device 50. In order to ensure operation of the display device 50 even with the usual AC voltage, the light-emitting diodes 54, 54 'each protective diodes 53, 53' upstream. Correspondingly arranged resistors 52, 52 'regulate the voltage supplied to the display device 50 comprising the two light-emitting diodes 54, 54'. For a first and a second light-emitting diode string thus results in a series circuit comprising a resistor 52 or 52 ', a light emitting diode 54 or 54' and a protective diode 53 or 53 '. The protective diodes 53, 53 'are arranged and designed such that in the first light-emitting diode string an electric current in a first flow direction and in the second an electric current in a second, the first opposite flow direction is allowed.
Another embodiment of the display device 50 is shown in FIG. Here, an incandescent lamp 56 with a corresponding resistor 52 "is coupled into the first and second HF line 41, 41. A rectification of the supply current is not necessary here. Fig. 6 shows an inductive coupling of the display device 50 in the supply circuit of the bipolar instrument head 14. For this purpose, the first RF line includes a first induction coil 57 which is magnetically coupled to a second induction coil 57 '. The induced energy at the second induction coil 57 'is used to drive another light emitting diode 54 ", preceded by a resistor 52'".
Fig. 7 zeigt eine entsprechende Anordnung. Alternatively, the display device 50 according to the invention can also be used in monopolar electrosurgical instruments 10. Fig. 7 shows a corresponding arrangement. The monopolar instrument is usually supplied directly with the voltage of the HF generator 20 via a first HF line 41. A second RF line 41 'contacts a neutral electrode 1, which is in direct contact with the patient. In order to be able to operate the display device 50 according to the invention according to Fig. 4 or 5, a further line 41 "has to be provided which supplies the display device. <br/> <br/> Also in this embodiment, the display device 50 is fed by the supply voltage for the electrosurgical instrument the display device 50 can be dispensed with the RF line 41 ".
The display device 50 described above can also be integrated according to the invention into an adapter to which an electrosurgical instrument 10 can be connected. Preferably, the handle 12 of the electrosurgical instrument 10 can be plugged onto corresponding terminals of the adapter. In this embodiment, the display device also utilizes the supply voltage of the electrosurgical instrument 10 to operate the associated light emitting diodes 54, 54 ', 54 "or a corresponding incandescent lamp 56. The circuits of Figures 4-6 can be suitably adapted for use in the adapter ,
In a further embodiment, the display device 50 of the adapter is supplied with chromatic light waves via an optical waveguide extending alongside the supply lines for the instrument 10. The HF generator 12 may be adapted such that, in the case of the application of a voltage to the adapter and thus also to the attached electrosurgical instrument 10, the display device 50 is supplied with correspondingly colored light. Alternatively, the RF generator 20 and the control unit be configured such that light waves for a specific adapter are only provided among a plurality of adapters connected to the HF generator 20 if current is present at the corresponding supply voltage. Furthermore, a predefined light color of the display device 50 may correspond to a light color on the HF generator 20 in order to indicate that voltage is applied precisely to this adapter.
In a further embodiment, the light-emitting diodes 54, 54 ', 54 "may be adapted such that they emit a colored light that, for example, corresponds to a display color of a display on the HF generator 20.
