Description
- Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von Leder, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man Tierhäute oder Halbzeuge mit einer Formaldehyd-freien Formulierung von Melamin in einem Lösungsmittel oder Lösungsmittelgemisch, umfassend mindestens einen mehrwertigen Alkohol, behandelt.
- In vielen Anwendungen, insbesondere zur Herstellung von Schuhoberleder, Bekleidung und Möbeln, besteht ein Bedarf an weichen Ledern, das sind Leder, die sich weich und voll anfühlen, dennoch aber eine ausreichende Festigkeit aufweisen. Um hinreichend weiche und gleichzeitig feste Leder herzustellen, kann man nicht nur das Finish entsprechend wählen, sondern auch bereits bei der Gerbung oder insbesondere der Nachgerbung durch Wahl eines geeigneten Gerb- oder Nachgerbmittels die Weichheit und Festigkeit beeinflussen.

US 7,153,962 beschreibt ein Verfahren zur Kristallisation von geschmolzenem Melamin in Gegenwart von Ethylenglykol. -
WO 01/09392 - In
DE 36 32 587 wird ein Verfahren zum Gerben von Leder beschrieben, in dem Melamin-Formaldehyd-Kondensate eingesetzt werden, die als wasserlösliche Variante von Melamin dienen. Derartige Melamin-Formaldehyd-Kondensate können ebenfalls noch lange nach ihrer Verarbeitung Formaldehyd freisetzen, was in der heutigen Zeit nicht mehr akzeptiert wird. - In
US 2,470,450 wird in Verfahren zur Ledergerbung beschrieben, in dem simultan Melamin und Formaldehyd zum Gerben eingesetzt werden. Auch ein solches Vorgehen wird in der heutigen Zeit nicht mehr akzeptiert. - Zur Herstellung derartiger gleichzeitig weicher und fester Leder verwendet man in vielen Fällen Harzgerbstoffe, die als aktive Substanz ein Melaminharz aufweisen. Derartige Melaminharze umfassen in den meisten Fällen Melamin, das mit einem oder mehreren Äquivalenten Formaldehyd umgesetzt ist und gegebenenfalls mit einem oder mehreren Äquivalenten eines ein- oder mehrwertigen Alkohols aminalisiert wurde. Es treten weiterhin Dimerisierungsreaktionen, Trimerisierungsreaktionen und weitere Oligomerisierungsreaktionen auf, die in der Regel Kondensationen, Umacetalisierungen oder Umaminalisierungen sind. Bei den so beschriebenen Harzgerbstoffen handelt es sich vielfach um polymere Stoffgemische mit unbestimmter Struktur. Derartige Harzgerbstoffe können Formaldehyd abspalten, was unter bestimmten Bedingungen unerwünscht ist. Andererseits wird vielfach der abgespaltene Formaldehyd oder seine Halbaminale mit Melamin für die gerbende oder nachgerbende Wirkung und die erwünschte Weichheit des Leders verantwortlich gemacht. Auch wird in vielen Fällen das hohe Molekulargewicht für die Fülle der Leder verantwortlich gemacht.
- Weiterhin ist es erwünscht, dass hier gegenüber dem Stand der Technik auch die so genannte Flächenselektivität verbessert wird (Verhältnis der Fülle des Kernbereichs zur Fläme).
- Es bestand die Aufgabe, ein Verfahren bereit zu stellen, durch das man Leder herstellen kann, die gleichzeitig besonders weich und voll sind, die eine gute Festigkeit aufweisen und eine gute Flächenselektivität aufweisen, ohne auf Formaldehyd-haltige Gerbmittel zurückgreifen zu müssen. Es bestand weiterhin die Aufgabe, Gerbmittelformulierungen bereit zu stellen, die zur Herstellung von besonders weichen und vollen Ledern, die eine gute Festigkeit aufweisen und eine gute Flächenselektivität aufweisen, geeignet sind, ohne dass sie Formaldehyd freisetzen. Außerdem bestand die Aufgabe, besonders weiche und volle Leder, die eine gute Festigkeit aufweisen und eine gute Flächenselektivität aufweisen, und Verwendungsmöglichkeiten bereit zu stellen.
- Dementsprechend wurde das eingangs definierte Verfahren gefunden, im Folgenden auch kurz erfindungsgemäßes Verfahren genannt.
- Zur Durchführung des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens geht man aus von Tierhäuten oder Halbzeugen. Bei Tierhäuten handelt es sich dabei um die Häute von beliebigen toten Tieren, beispielsweise Rind, Kalb, Schwein, Ziege, Schaf, Känguru, Fisch, Strauß oder Wild. Tierhäute im Sinne der vorliegenden Erfindung sind üblicherweise enthaart und - falls sie in Gegenwart von Kalk enthaart wurden - vorzugsweise entkälkt. Bei Halbzeugen handelt es sich um nach beliebigen Verfahren gepickelte oder vorgegerbte oder gegebenenfalls gegerbte Tierhäute, vorzugsweise handelt es sich um durch Einwirkung von Chromsalzen oder in Gegenwart von polymeren Gerbmitteln hergestellte Halbzeuge.
- Dabei ist es für die vorliegende Erfindung unerheblich, ob die Tiere, dessen Häute man zu behandeln wünscht, geschlachtet wurden, waidmännisch erlegt wurden oder an natürlichen Ursachen zugrunde gegangen sind.
- Man behandelt Tierhäute oder Halbzeuge erfindungsgemäß mit einer Formaldehyd-freien Formulierung von Melamin. Dabei wird unter Formaldehyd-frei verstanden, dass der Formaldehydgehalt weniger als 0,01 mol pro mol Melamin beträgt.
- In einer Variante der vorliegenden Erfindung liegt der Formaldehydgehalt der erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Formaldehyd unter 20 ppm, bevorzugt unter 15 ppm, bestimmt beispielsweise nach DIN ISO/TN 17226 bzw. nach DIN 53315 (alt).
- In einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung ist in den erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Formaldehyd-freien Formulierungen kein Formaldehyd nachweisbar.
- Bei Melamin handelt es sich um reines Melamin, das also weder mit Formaldehyd oder anderen Aldehyden wie beispielsweise Acetaldehyd oder Benzaldehyd umgesetzt wurde.
- Erfindungsgemäß setzt man Melamin in einem Lösungsmittel oder Lösungsmittelgemisch ein, das mindestens einen mehrwertigen Alkohol umfasst. Unter mehrwertigen Alkoholen werden im Rahmen der vorliegenden Erfindung solche bei Zimmertemperatur flüssigen Verbindungen verstanden, die mindestens zwei alkoholische Hydroxygruppen pro Mol tragen. Derartige Hydroxygruppen können sekundäre oder primäre Hydroxygruppen sein.
- Bevorzugte mehrwertige Alkohole sind Ethylenglykol, Propylenglykol, Diethylenglykol, Dipropylenglykol, Triethylenglykol, Tetraethylenglykol, Glycerin und Diglycerin.
- In einer Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung umfassen erfindungsgemäß eingesetzte Formulierungen mindestens zwei mehrwertige Alkohole. Bevorzugt umfassen erfindungsgemäß eingesetzte Formulierungen mindestens einen zweiwertigen und mindestens einen dreiwertigen Alkohol.
- In einer Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung wählt man als Lösungsmittelgemisch eine Kombination, umfassend Glycerin als dreiwertigen Alkohol und Ethylenglykol, Diethylenglykol oder Triethylenglykol als zweiwertigen Alkohol, besonders bevorzugt sind Kombinationen aus Glycerin und Triethylenglykol.
- In einer Variante der vorliegenden Erfindung umfassen erfindungsgemäß eingesetzte Formulierungen im Bereich von 10 bis 50 Gew.-% zweiwertigen Alkohol und 50 bis 90 Gew.-% dreiwertigen Alkohol, bezogen jeweils auf das gesamte Lösemittelgemisch.
- Die erfindungsgemäß eingesetzten Formulierungen enthalten vorzugsweise keine halogenierten Lösungsmittel wie beispielsweise Chlorbenzol, Chloroform oder Tetrachlorkohlenstoff. Dabei wird unter "enthalten keine halogenierten Lösungsmittel" verstanden, dass sich mit an sich bekannten Maßnahmen wie beispielsweise Elementaranalysen weniger als 100 ppm, bevorzugt kein halogeniertes Lösungsmittel nachweisen lässt.
- In einer Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung enthält erfindungsgemäß eingesetzte Formulierung als einzige(s) organische(s) Lösungsmittel einen oder mehrere mehrwertige Alkohole.
- Erfindungsgemäß eingesetzte Formulierung kann weiterhin Wasser enthalten.
- In einer Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung enthält erfindungsgemäß eingesetzte Formulierung 0,1 bis 20 Gew.-% Melamin, bevorzugt sind 1 bis 10 Gew.-%.
- In einer Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung übt man das erfindungsgemäße Verfahren zur Herstellung von Leder als Gerbverfahren aus, im Folgenden auch als erfindungsgemäßes Gerbverfahren bezeichnet, bevorzugt als Nachgerbverfahren, im Folgenden auch als erfindungsgemäßes Nachgerbverfahren bezeichnet.
- Das erfindungsgemäße Gerbverfahren übt man im Allgemeinen so aus, dass man mindestens eine erfindungsgemäße Formulierung in einer Portion oder in mehreren Portionen unmittelbar vor oder aber während des Gerbungsschrittes zusetzt. Das erfindungsgemäße Gerbverfahren wird vorzugsweise bei einem pH-Wert von 2,5 bis 11, bevorzugt bis 4 durchgeführt, wobei man häufig beobachtet, dass der pH-Wert während der Durchführung des erfindungsgemäßen Gerbverfahrens um etwa 0,3 bis drei Einheiten ansteigt.
- Das erfindungsgemäße Gerbverfahren führt man im Allgemeinen bei Temperaturen von 10 bis 45°C, bevorzugt bei 20 bis 30°C durch. Bewährt hat sich eine Dauer von 10 Minuten bis 12 Stunden, bevorzugt sind eine bis drei Stunden. Das erfindungsgemäße Gerbverfahren kann man in beliebigen gerbereiüblichen Gefäßen durchführen, beispielsweise durch Walken in Fässern oder in gedrehten Trommeln.
- In einer Ausführungsform der vorliegenden Erfindung setzt man insgesamt 0,01 bis 10 Gew.-% Formaldehyd-freie Formulierung von Melamin ein, bezogen auf den Melamingehalt von erfindungsgemäß eingesetzter Formulierung einerseits und auf das Falzgewicht andererseits, bevorzugt sind 0,5 bis 3 Gew.-%.
- In einer Variante des erfindungsgemäßen Gerbverfahrens setzt man Formaldehyd-freie Formulierung von Melamin zusammen mit einem oder mehreren herkömmlichen Gerbstoffen ein, insbesondere mit mindestens einem Formaldehyd-freien Gerb- oder Nachgerbmittel, beispielsweise mit Chromgerbstoffen, mineralischen Gerbstoffen, Schichtsilikaten, Polymergerbstoffen oder vegetabilen Gerbstoffen, wie sie beispielsweise beschrieben sind in Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry, Band A15, Seite 259 bis 282 und insbesondere Seite 268 ff., 5. Auflage, (1990), Verlag Chemie Weinheim. Das Gewichtsverhältnis Melamin : herkömmlicher Gerbstoff bzw. Summe der herkömmlichen Gerbstoffe beträgt zweckmäßig von 0,01 : 1 bis 100 : 1 (bezogen jeweils auf die Feststoffgehalte). In einer vorteilhaften Variante des erfindungsgemäßen Gerbverfahrens setzt man nur wenige ppm herkömmliches Gerbmittel erfindungsgemäßer Formulierung zu.
- In einer Variante des erfindungsgemäßen Gerbverfahrens setzt man Formaldehyd-freie Formulierung von Melamin zusammen mit einem oder mehreren Fettungsmitteln bzw. oleophilen Komponenten ein.
- In einer Variante des erfindungsgemäßen Gerbverfahrens setzt man Formaldehyd-freie Formulierung von Melamin in einer Portion oder in mehreren Portionen vor oder während des Vorgerbens zu. Auch ein Zusatz im Pickel ist denkbar.
- Zur Durchführung des erfindungsgemäßen Nachgerbverfahrens geht man aus von konventionell, d.h. beispielsweise mit Chromgerbstoffen, Schichtsilikaten, mineralischen Gerbstoffen, Polymergerbstoffen, Aldehyden oder vegetabilen Gerbstoffen gegerbten Halbzeugen oder erfindungsgemäß wie oben beschrieben hergestellten Halbzeugen. Zur Durchführung des erfindungsgemäßen Nachgerbungsverfahrens lässt man mindestens eine Formaldehyd-freie Formulierung von Melamin auf Halbzeuge einwirken, d.h., man behandelt mit mindestens einer Formaldehyd-freien Formulierung von Melamin.
- Das erfindungsgemäße Nachgerbverfahren kann man unter ansonsten üblichen Bedingungen durchführen. Man wählt zweckmäßig einen oder mehrere, d.h. 2 bis 6 Einwirkschritte und kann zwischen den Einwirkschritten mit Wasser spülen. Die Temperatur bei den einzelnen Einwirkschritten beträgt jeweils von 5 bis 60°C, bevorzugt 20 bis 45°C. Man setzt zweckmäßig einen oder mehrere weitere, während der Nachgerbung üblicherweise verwendete Mittel ein, beispielsweise Fettlicker, Polymergerbstoffe und Fettungsmittel auf Acrylat- und/oder Methacrylatbasis, Nachgerbstoffe auf Basis von Vegetabilgerbstoffen, Füllstoffe, Lederfarbstoffe oder Emulgatoren.
- Bewährt hat sich für das erfindungsgemäße Nachgerbverfahren eine Dauer von 10 Minuten bis 12 Stunden, bevorzugt sind eine bis drei Stunden. Das erfindungsgemäße Nachgerbverfahren kann man in beliebigen gerbereiüblichen Gefäßen durchführen, beispielsweise durch Walken in Fässern oder in gedrehten Trommeln.
- In einer Ausführungsform des erfindungsgemäßen Nachgerbverfahrens setzt man insgesamt 0,01 bis 10 Gew.-% erfindungsgemäße Formaldehyd-freie Formulierung von Melamin ein, bezogen auf den Gehalt von Melamin einerseits und auf das Falzgewicht andererseits, bevorzugt sind 0,5 bis 5 Gew.-%.
- Ein weiterer Gegenstand der vorliegenden Erfindung ist Leder, hergestellt nach dem erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren. Erfindungsgemäßes Leder zeichnet sich durch gute Fülle, Weichheit und Intensität der Färbung und weitere gute Gebrauchseigenschaften wie beispielsweise die Prägbarkeit, die Festnarbigkeit und die Gleichmäßigkeit des Millbruchs bei Möbel- und Bekleidungsleder aus. Erfindungsgemäßes Leder eignet sich beispielsweise zur Herstellung von Schuhoberleder, Bekleidungsstücken wie beispielsweise Jacken, Mänteln oder Hosen, und weiterhin von Möbeln.
- Die Erfindung wird durch Arbeitsbeispiele erläutert.
- Dynamische Viskositäten wurden stets nach DIN ISO-Norm 3219 (ehemalige DIN-Norm 53018) bei 23°C bestimmt.
- Man legte 36,8 g (0,29 mol) Melamin, 198,7 g (1,32 mol) Triethylenglykol, 912,9 g Glycerin (9,92 mol) und 0,4 g Natronlauge (50 Gew.-%) in einem 2000-ml-Kolben vor und erhitzte unter Rühren auf 140°C. Die so erhaltene Formulierung wurde 4 Stunden lang bei 140°C gerührt. Anschließend wurde die Formulierung auf Zimmertemperatur abgekühlt. Man erhielt eine klare, homogene und stabile Formulierung (F.1) mit einer leicht gelben Farbe. Die dynamische Viskosität betrug 390 mPa·s bei 23°C.
- Man legte 36,8 g (0,29 mol) Melamin, 200,2 g (1,33 mol) Triethylenglykol, 920,0 g Glycerin (10,0 mol) und 0,4 g Natronlauge (50 Gew.-%) in einem 2000-ml-Kolben vor und erhitzte unter Rühren auf 80°C. Die so erhaltene Formulierung wurde 5 Stunden lang bei 80°C gerührt. Anschließend wurde die Formulierung auf Zimmertemperatur abgekühlt. Man erhielt eine farblose klare, homogene und stabile Formulierung (F.2). Die dynamische Viskosität betrug 385 mPa·s bei 23°C.
- Man legte 36,8 g (0,29 mol) Melamin, 200,2 g (1,33 mol) Triethylenglykol, 920,0 g Glycerin (10,0 mol) und 0,4 g Natronlauge (50 Gew.-%) in einem 2000-ml-Kolben vor und erhitzte unter Rühren auf 170°C. Die so erhaltene Formulierung wurde 3 Stunden lang bei 170°C gerührt. Anschließend wurde die Formulierung auf Zimmertemperatur abgekühlt. Man erhielt eine klare, homogene und stabile bernsteinfarbene Formulierung (F.3). Die dynamische Viskosität betrug 418 mPa·s bei 23°C.
- Man legte 36,8 g (0,29 mol) Melamin, 200,2 g (1,33 mol) Triethylenglykol, 245,6 g Glycerin (2,67 mol) und 0,4 g Natronlauge (50 Gew.-%) in einem 1000-ml-Kolben vor und erhitzte unter Rühren auf 170°C. Die so erhaltene Formulierung wurde 3 Stunden lang bei 170°C gerührt. Anschließend wurde die Formulierung auf Zimmertemperatur abgekühlt. Man erhielt eine klare, homogene und stabile hellbraune Formulierung (F.4). Die dynamische Viskosität betrug 589 mPa·s bei 23°C.
- Man legte 36,8 g (0,29 mol) Melamin, 240,2 g (1,60 mol) Triethylenglykol, 245,6 g Glycerin (2,67 mol) und 0,4 g Natronlauge (50 Gew.-%) in einem 2000-ml-Kolben vor und erhitzte unter Rühren auf 140°C. Die so erhaltene Formulierung wurde 3 Stunden lang bei 140°C gerührt. Anschließend wurde die Formulierung auf Zimmertemperatur abgekühlt. Man erhielt eine klare, homogene und stabile hellbraune Formulierung (F.5). Die dynamische Viskosität betrug 426 mPa·s bei 23°C.
- Die Ergebnisse sind in Tabelle 1 zusammengefasst.

- Zwei handelsübliche Rinder-Wetblue (Fa. Packer, USA) wurden auf eine Stärke von 1,7 bis 1,9 mm gefalzt. Die Halbzeuge wurden einschließlich der Flämenbereiche weiterverarbeitet und dazu in je sieben Streifen zu je ca. 800 g geschnitten. Anschließend wurden die Streifen in einem Fass (50 I) und einer Flottenlänge von 200 % (bezogen auf Falzgewicht) im Abstand von 10 Minuten mit 1,5 Gew.-% Natriumformiat und 0,5 % Natriumbicarbonat sowie 1 % eines Naphthalinsulfonsäure-Formaldehyd-Kondensationsprodukts, hergestellt nach
US 5,186,846 , Beispiel "Dispergiermittel 1", versetzt. Nach 70 Minuten wurde die Flotte abgelassen. Die Streifen wurden dann auf separate Walk-Fässer 1 bis 7 verteilt. - Zusammen mit 100% Wasser werden die Walk-Fässer 1 bis 7 bei 25 bis 35°C mit je 2 % einer 40%igen wässrigen Formulierung von Polyacrylsäure (Mn 70.000 g/mol, pH-Wert 5,5) versetzt. Nach einer Walkzeit von 20 Minuten wurden nacheinander jeweils 2 % Kaolin, mittlerer Partikeldurchmesser (Gewichtsmittel) 1,3 µm (bestimmt nach 30-minütigem kräftigen Rühren in Wasser bei 50°C nach ISO 13320-1, s. Seite 3, Zeile 12 ff. und Beispiel B1.1 aus

- Anschließend wurde weitere 30 Minuten im Fass gewalkt.
- Anschließend wurde in mehreren Schritten zu 0,3 bis 0,5% mit Ameisensäure auf einen pH-Wert von 3,9 bis 4,1 abgesäuert. Nach 20 Minuten wurde die Flotte bezüglich der Auszehrung bewertet und abgelassen. Die Leder wurden mit 200 % Wasser gewaschen.
- Danach wurden in 100 % Wasser (50 °C) 4 % eines Fettlickers nach
WO 03/023069 - Die so erhältlichen Leder wurden gewaschen, getrocknet, gestollt und nach den in Tabelle 2 festgelegten Prüfkriterien bewertet. Man erhielt die erfindungsgemäßen Leder L.1 bis L.5. Die Bewertung erfolgte nach einem Notensystem von 1 (sehr gut) bis 5 (mangelhaft).
- Als Vergleichsgerbmittel V-F.6 wurde eine wässrige Formulierung eingesetzt, die wie folgt hergestellt wurde:
- In einem 2-1-Vierhalskolben wurde 418 g wässrige Natriumsulfitlösung (20 Gew.-%) vorgelegt und unter Rühren tropfenweise innerhalb von 20 Minuten mit 325 g 30 Gew.-% wässriger Formaldehydlösung versetzt. Dabei achtete man darauf, dass die Temperatur nicht über 60°C stieg. Nach beendeter Zugabe erhöhte man die Temperatur auf 80°C und gab eine wässrige Suspension aus 188,4 g Naphthalinsulfonsäure (Isomerengemisch) und 45 g Melamin in 200 ml Wasser innerhalb eines Zeitraums von 15 Minuten zu.
- Man rührte 2 Stunden lang bei 80°C und gab danach über einen Zeitraum von 20 Minuten 170,7 g einer 50 Gew.-% wässrige Harnstofflösung zu. Man rührte weitere Stunde bei 80°C und gab danach 6,9 g wässrige Natronlauge (50 Gew.-%) innerhalb von 10 Minuten zu, wobei man darauf achtete, dass die Temperatur nicht über 83°C stieg. Man rührte weitere 90 Minuten bei 80°C und ließ dann auf Zimmertemperatur abkühlen. Man stellte mit 2,7 g 25 Gew.-% wässriger Schwefelsäure einen pH-Wert von etwa 8 ein.

Die Versuche zeigen in Summa, dass die erfindungsgemäßen Leder im Vergleich zu nativer Haut (ca. 2-5 ppm Formaldehyd) keinen bzw. einen zu vernachlässigenden Beitrag an freiem Formaldehyd liefern und gleichzeitig der Forderung nach hervorragender Füll-Wirkung und Weichheit bei exzellenter Narbenfestigkeit gerecht werden. Vorteilhaft ist auch der Befund, dass hier gegenüber dem Stand der Technik auch die so genannte Flächenselektivität verbessert werden konnte (Verhältnis der Fülle des Kernbereichs zur Fläme).
Claims (6)
- Verfahren zur Herstellung von Leder, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man Tierhäute oder Halbzeuge mit einer Formaldehyd-freien Formulierung von Melamin in einem Lösungsmittel oder Lösungsmittelgemisch, umfassend mindestens einen mehrwertigen Alkohol, behandelt.
- Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass mehrwertige Alkohole gewählt werden aus Ethylenglykol, Propylenglykol, Diethylenglykol, Dipropylenglykol, Triethylenglykol, Tetraethylenglykol, Glycerin und Diglycerin.
- Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 oder 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man als Lösungsmittelgemisch eine Kombination wählt, umfassend Glycerin und Ethylenglykol, Diethylenglykol oder Triethylenglykol.
- Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass das Lösungsmittel bzw. Lösungsmittelgemisch frei ist von halogenierten Lösungsmitteln.
- Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man mindestens ein weiteres Formaldehyd-freies Gerb- oder Nachgerbmittel einsetzt.
- Leder, erhältlich nach einem Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5.
