Definitions
- the present invention relates to a contact clip intended to be inserted inside a female-type contact piece in order to complete the latter, said contact clip making it possible to ensure electrical contact between said female contact piece and a corresponding contact piece of the male type.
- the invention also relates to a contact piece equipped with such a contact clip as well as a connector provided with at least one such contact piece.
- Application EP-1.107.378 discloses a female type contact piece equipped with a contact clip, intended to be installed on a multi-contact connector.
- the disadvantage of the contact clips as described in this document is that the contact surface that they have with the male contact piece when the latter is introduced, is relatively limited, which implies a relatively high contact resistance, limiting therefore the value of the current that can be passed through such a set of contacts to prevent a prohibitive heating of the set of contacts.
- a first object of the invention is therefore to provide an improved contact clip with respect to those known from the prior art.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a contact clip adapted to allow the transit of a current higher than the known contact clips, this without excessive heating of the contact parts.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a contact clip whose mechanical properties do not deteriorate after many uses and over time.
- Yet another object of the invention is to provide a female-type contact piece equipped with such a contact clip, adapted to cooperate with a male-type contact piece, without injuring the contact surface thereof.
- Another object of the invention is to provide a connector provided with at least one female-type contact piece comprising a contact clip as defined above.
- FIG. 1 is a longitudinal section of a contact clip according to a first embodiment of the invention
- FIG. 2 is a longitudinal section of a contact clip according to a second embodiment of the invention.
- FIG. 3 is a cross-section of the contact clip according to FIG. 1, along section line III-III of FIG. 1,
- Figure 4 is a longitudinal section of a connector portion showing a contact piece portion provided with a contact clip.
- the contact clip 1, as shown in Figure 1 is substantially tubular in shape, comprising, in the direction of the length and from left to right on the embodiment of Figure 1, a fixing portion
- the fixing portion 10 consists of a cylindrical annular portion intended to fix the clip 1 in a corresponding portion of a contact piece, as will be seen below.
- the significant dimensional dimension of this fastening portion 10 is therefore its outside diameter.
- a frustoconical portion 13 allows to connect the diameters.
- the end portion 12 arranged, in the embodiment shown, at the opposite end of the clip, consists of a cylindrical tubular portion intended to be inserted into a corresponding guide portion of a contact piece, as we will see below.
- the important dimensional dimension is its outside diameter.
- each cutout 14, respectively each elastic strip 15 is shaped in the longitudinal direction of the clip 1.
- the two elastic strips 15 have been deformed being slightly folded in the direction of the longitudinal central axis 100 of the clip 1.
- a male portion 2 of a contact piece visible in section on the figure 3 but not shown in the other figures, was introduced in the clip 1, it is pressed by the two resilient strips 15 each applying a radial force to the male portion 2, pressing it against the inner cylindrical surface portion 110 opposite the resilient lamellae 15, of the contact portion 11. It is therefore seen, particularly in FIG.
- the longitudinal axis 20 of the male portion 2 is offset with respect to the longitudinal axis 100 of the clip 1, thereby increasing the surfaces of the male portion 2 as well as the clip 1 in electrical contact these surfaces essentially comprising the internal cylindrical surface portion 110 mentioned above and the two inner surfaces 150 of the elastic lamellae 15.
- the contact surface also depends on the length of the portion contact 11, which parameter is not generally considered in the clips of this type according to the prior art. These contact surfaces are therefore much larger than the corresponding surfaces of the contact clips of the prior art.
- each elastic strip 15 is slightly curved towards the outside of the clip 1 so as not to injure the external contact surface of the male portion 2 when it is inserted into the clip 1.
- each elastic strip 15 is directed towards the front of the clip 1, in the direction of the fixing portion 1, whereas in the form embodiment of the clip 1 shown in Figure 2, the free end 151 of each elastic strip 15 is directed towards the bottom of the clip 1, either towards the end portion 12.
- slats 15 are of different lengths, which allows on the one hand to reduce the insertion force of the male part 2 and on the other hand to better distribute the support force of the male part 2 on the inner cylindrical surface portion 110 of the clip 1.
- the material used for such contact clips is preferably an alloy of copper and beryllium known for its good electrical and mechanical qualities.
- the manufacture of such clips is preferably by cutting stamping and rolling, from strips of the material constituting the clips.
- FIG. 4 shows a cross-section of a connector portion 4 comprising a female-type contact piece 3, provided with a contact clip 1, ready to receive a portion of a male contact piece 2.
- the portion of the contact piece 3 intended to receive the clip 1 is substantially cylindrical in shape and comprises an axial blind bore comprising, in the embodiment shown, a first attachment surface 30, intended to receive the fixing portion 10 clip, a central seat 31 for receiving the contact portion 11 of the clip and the end portion 12 of the clip.
- the bearing surfaces 30 and 31 have different diameters.
- the introduction of the clip 1 in the axial housing of the contact piece 3 is made by first introducing the end portion 12, then the contact portion 11 through the opening of the housing, these two portions easily passing through the attachment span 30 of larger diameter.
- the outside diameter of the fixing portion of the clip corresponds to the inside diameter of the attachment surface 30 of the contact piece 3, in such a way that the clip 1 remains fixed in the part 3 after insertion and driving, crimping or fixing by any known means, from the fastening portion 10 in the attachment span 30.
- the electrical contact respectively the passage of the electric current between the contact clip 1 and the female-type contact piece 3 is essentially by the uncut part of the contact portion 1 1 corresponding to the surface portion 110 seen previously and the end portion 12 with the central bearing 31.
- the remainder of the contact piece 3, just sketched in FIG. 4, may be of any type known for this kind of contact piece, and may comprise, for example, a portion in which a wire may be crimped, screwed or welded, or a fastening portion on a connector or printed circuit or a second female contact-shaped portion, to form a transition contact piece, etc.
- FIG. 4 shows the contact piece portion 3 described above mounted on an insulating plate 40 of a connector 4, only a portion of which is shown here.
- the contact piece 3 Since by the construction described above, the mechanical stresses, in particular those of elasticity, are transferred to the contact clip 1, the contact piece 3 will preferably be made of a material of reduced cost, for example of brass, this being an additional advantage of this type of construction. If necessary, only the contact clip 1 will undergo a surface treatment improving its electrical contact qualities.
- each clip 1 could comprise a number of elastic strips 15 different from two, it being understood that the positioning of these strips 15 on the periphery of the contact portion 11 is important. since these strips must each exert a radial force such that the component of the sum of these radial forces applied to the male part 2 shifts its longitudinal axis 20 and presses said male part 2 against a surface portion internal cylindrical 110 without elastic lamella 15. These resilient lamellae 15 will therefore be arranged in a non-regular manner on the periphery of the contact portion 11. Preferably, it will be chosen to have at least two elastic lamellae 15 in order to have stable positioning of the male part 2 inside the clip 1.
