Definitions
- the present invention relates to a denaturant for ethanol (composition according to the invention), ethanol containing this denaturant (mixture according to the invention) and cosmetic and mouth hygiene products containing this denatured ethanol.
- Ethyl alcohol which is not intended for consumption (e.g., as a constituent of a food and beverage), e.g. Ethyl alcohol for the manufacture of cosmetics, for tax reasons by the addition of so-called denaturants for consumption or enjoyment for humans unusable.
- Denaturing is the denaturing of ethanol, which makes it useless for human consumption (as a drinking alcohol) and therefore does not have to pay the tax applicable to non-denatured ethanol.
- various denaturants can be used.
- the most commonly used denaturant in the world is diethyl phthalate.
- denaturant is dependent on the intended use of the ethanol. According to Article 17 of Regulation (EEC) No 2454/93, the mixture of product to be denatured and denaturant must be homogeneous. The parts of the mixture may not be separated in an economically meaningful way. Diethyl phthalate is the most common denaturant for cosmetics, but also other agents such as thymol, isopropanol or tert-butyl alcohol are used (see also the spirits tax regulation, BGBI I 1994, 104 ).
- the known denaturants have regularly (some significant) disadvantages, which reduce the product quality.
- diethyl phthalate causes sneezing in aerosol formulations.
- diethyl phthalate influences the odor or taste properties of perfumed or flavored products in an uncontrollable manner.
- Other denaturants such as e.g. Isopropanol or musk ketone influence the odor character of perfumed products and are sometimes color unstable.
- Denaturants need not or are not intended to be consumed in larger quantities, but should not be appreciably harmful to health, particularly when used in cosmetic or oral hygiene products, e.g. For example, in the case of inadvertent swallowing, it does not lead to health problems.
- EP 0 876 811 (corresponding US 5,968,535 ) describes a denaturant for ethanol comprising a) benzyl salicylate, b) (i) 4.6.6.7.8.8.-hexamethyl-1.3.4.6.7.8.-hexahydrocyclopenta [g] benzopyran or (ii) oxacyclohexadec-12- and / or -13 -en-2-one, c) hydrogenated root oil C 1 -C 4 alkyl esters, d) 2-pentylphenylpropanol, e) benzyl benzoate, f) dipropylene glycol and g) triethyl citrate.
- denaturants are suitable for use in topical cosmetic products, for use in oral hygiene products, these denaturants have an overly dominant intrinsic taste which is difficult to combine with other fragrances and flavorings or which is not acceptable to the consumer in terms of taste ,
- DE 2746108 A1 discloses (page 17, examples 3 and 4) lotions for the treatment of acne, containing inter alia 25% by weight Absolute ethanol 38.4% by weight propylene glycol 0.2% by weight p-methyl benzoate 10% by weight Ethyl lactate.
- US 2006/0068066 A a liquid composition used in studies of the sorption behavior of flavorings.
- the liquid composition contains, inter alia, an alcohol as a solvent, for example ethanol and an ester component selected from among others lactic esters such as cis-3-hexenyllactate, trans-3-hexenyllactate or benzoic acid esters such as methyl benzoate, ethyl benzoate, propyl benzoate and butyl benzoate.
- JP 04283240 A discloses a solvent for epoxy resins containing at least one component selected, inter alia, ethyl lactate, butyl lactate, amyl lactate, methyl benzoate, ethyl benzoate, butyl benzoate, diethyl malonate.
- US 5 612 303 A discloses a solvent composition for dissolving polymers.
- the composition contains at least one compound selected from among others methyl lactate, ethyl lactate, butyl lactate, methyl benzoate, ethyl benzoate, propyl benzoate, diethyl malonate and propylene glycol.
- the sought denaturing midel should have only a weak odor or taste, so that it can be well combined with fragrances and flavorings and incorporated into cosmetic or oral hygiene products, i. It should be universally applicable especially in cosmetic or oral hygiene products. Further, when adding water to a corresponding denatured ethanol or mixing water and a corresponding denatured ethanol, the denaturant should not result in clouding or segregation of the phases (i.e., not to form an oil film or "grease eyes").
- the benzoic acid C 1 -C 4 ester as constituent B) has a substantial function as denaturant at; These benzoic acid C 1 -C 4 esters do not smell or taste pleasant. Upon addition of water to ethanol denatured with one or more benzoic acid C 1 -C 4 esters, however, undesired turbidity was frequently observed in own investigations.
- the lactic acid C 2 -C 6 esters as constituent A) contribute substantially to the more universal incorporation of the compositions according to the invention into products containing cosmetic or oral hygiene ethanol-containing products: these lactic acid C 2 -C 6 esters smell or taste slightly fruity and creamy-buttery (ethyl lactate slightly fruity and buttery, n-butyl lactate creamy, milky, sweetish) and are therefore sensory comparatively pleasant. Furthermore, the lactic acid C 2 -C 6 esters as constituent A) of the compositions according to the invention reduce the turbidity tendency of the benzoic acid C 1 -C 4 esters as constituent B) when water is added to inventive denatured ethanol in an advantageous manner.
- the malonic acid di-C 1 -C 4 esters as constituent C) facilitate the incorporation of the compositions according to the invention into products containing cosmetic or oral hygiene ethanol; the malonic acid di-C 1 -C 4 esters, in particular diethyl malonate, smell or taste slightly fruity (diethyl malonate slightly pineapple-like) and are therefore comparatively pleasant in terms of sensory perception. Due to the presence of the malonic acid di-C 1 -C 4 esters as component C), compositions according to the invention are perceived sensory, in particular taste, inconspicuous and less disturbing.
- the optional constituent (s) glycerol, ethylene glycol and / or 1,2-propylene glycol are essentially solubilizers in the present case, so that the undesired turbidities and / or separations described above are regularly avoided.
- compositions A, B, C and D are at least 95% by weight, preferably at least 98% by weight, of the composition
- compositions according to the invention (extender for ethanol) have only a slight inherent odor or natural taste, which is perceived as sensory unobtrusive in cosmetic and oral hygiene products becomes. Furthermore, the compositions according to the invention are difficult to separate from ethanol as denaturants.
- compositions according to the invention can be prepared in a simple manner by mixing the individual components A) and B) and optionally C) and / or D).
- a composition according to the invention is preferably used in an amount in the range from 0.01 to 5% by weight, preferably in the range from 0.05 to 3% by weight, more preferably in the range from 0.1 to 2 % By weight, based on the total weight of the composition according to the invention and ethanol.
- compositions according to the invention can be used universally in cosmetic and oral hygiene products.
- the compositions according to the invention in the vast majority of cases do not interfere with the physical and sensory aspects of the sensor. it does not come to Wechsei füren that affect the particular intended use of cosmetic and oral hygiene products.
- a composition of the invention is free of diethyl phthalate.
- a further subject of the invention are cosmetic or oral hygiene products prepared with the composition according to the invention or mixture. These products may contain from 1 to 99% by weight, based on ethanol-containing product, of the composition according to the invention.

Description
Diethylphthalat beispielsweise verursacht in Aerosolformulierungen Niesreiz.
-
DE 2746108 A1 offenbart (Seite 17, Beispiele 3 und 4) Lotionen zur Behandlung von Akne, enthaltend u.a.25 Gew.-% Ethanol absolut 38,4 Gew% Propylenglycol 0,2 Gew.-% p-Methylbenzoat 10 Gew.-% Ethyllactat. -
JP 04283240 A -
- A) Ethyllactat,
- B) Ethylbenzoat,
- C) Diethylmalonat, und
- D) 1,2-Propylenglykol,
- Derartige kosmetische Produkte umfassen (bevorzugter Ethanolgehalt in Klammem) Extrait, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, Eau de Cologne (jeweils 30 - 99 Gew.-%), Splash Cologne, Rasierwasser, allgemeine Dea-Formuiiemngen, Haarfestiger, Haarspray, Haargele (1-50 Gew.-%), Gesichtswasser (5-70 Gew.-%), Körpergele, in besonderen Emulsionen (jeweils 1-40 Gew.-%), Haarwasser (10-75 Gew.-%), Handdesinfektionsmittel (20-99 Gew.-%).
