Description

The invention relates to a device for cleaning an ink jet print head, in particular in a franking and / or addressing machine.
It has been proven to exploit the advantages of ink printing also in the field of mechanical franking and / or addressing. The printing takes place without contact by means of ink print head, see for example DE 44 24 771 C1 and EP 0 696 509 B1 , However, the ink printing technique has the disadvantage that more ink is consumed for cleaning the ink jet print head than for printing. This is particularly serious in individual printing.
It is a franking machine known in which the print carrier or letters upright, for stability reasons on the vertical Be inclined, transported by means of a conveyor belt, see DE 196 05 014 C1 and DE 197 57 653 C2 , The letter lies behind a transparent plate on a guide plate, in which a printing window provided and in which the ink jet print head is arranged so stationary that that its nozzle surface is arranged parallel to the guide plate. The letter is passed past the printing window or the ink jet print head and printed on the side facing away from the viewer.

The problem of ink jet print head cleaning and sealing is solved here by means of a device for cleaning an ink jet print head, see EP 0 799 135 B1 in which the ink jet print head is alternatively fastened from a printing position into a cleaning position and / or sealing position and pivoted back again, and the cleaning and sealing device is arranged to be linearly adjustable, toward and away from the ink jet print head.
The cleaning and sealing device includes a the inkjet print head adapted sealing cap with suction slots for each row of nozzles and a transversely adjustable wiper lip and a downstream suction pump. In the sealing cap, a suction area with a suction opening for the wiper lip is provided at one end. The wiper lip is adjusted by means of a spindle drive.

In addition, a device for positioning an ink jet print head and a cleaning and sealing device is known, see DE 197 26 642 C1 in which for the adjustment of the ink jet print head and the cleaning and sealing device, a common transmission is provided, which is driven by a motor which runs only in one direction of rotation. The inkjet print head, the cleaning and sealing device and the common gearbox together with the motor are mounted in a common frame and thus combined to form a compact module. This assembly is in turn adjustably attached to the transport device.

The inkjet print head can be swiveled from the print position into the cleaning position and back again by more than 90 °. The cleaning and sealing device is arranged vertically adjustable in height below the ink print head. During the cleaning process, the cleaning and sealing device is docked to the downwardly pivoted ink jet print head. It is therefore also the procedure for free spraying.

With the solutions described above, the letter transport is interrupted during the cleaning process and consequently the letter throughput is reduced. In a free spraying in the printing position during the letter transport either the letter or the letter-wrap transparent plate, conveyor belt - would be noticeably dirty.

On the other hand, a postage meter with an ink-jet printhead is known, see EP 0 696 509 B1 and US 5,806,994 in which the letters are transported horizontally and the nozzle surface is arranged parallel thereto. With this machine, the nozzles that are little or unused during printing are sprayed free as long as there is no letter in front of the print head. For this purpose, the letter transport device is provided with corresponding recesses and arranged below the same a collecting container for the sprayed ink. The ink consumption is reduced in this way, but the horizontal letter transport is a prerequisite.

The purpose of the invention is an improvement in the print quality and an extension of the life of the printing device and the largest possible letter throughput.

The invention has for its object to provide an apparatus for cleaning an ink jet print head in a franking and / or addressing machine, in which the letters are transported standing on one edge and the ink jet print head is arranged stationary pivotally behind a guide plate, and with the next usual functions, such as wiping and sealing, both a free spraying during the letter transport as well as in rest position is possible without the letter run is dirty.

According to the invention this object is achieved according to the main claim. Further advantageous features of the invention are the dependent claims.

For simplicity and ease of understanding, the illustration is partially schematic.

According to FIG. 1, a franking machine has a printing system 1 and a guide plate 22 with a printing window 221 in which two inkjet printing heads 110 -in the further TDK-are arranged stationary. The guide plate 22 is part of a transport device 2 with a drive part 21 and two sensors I, II, 23, 24. Sensor I "Start" 23 is arranged in the lettering upstream upstream of the transport device 2 and serves to detect and signal incoming letters. Sensor II "print" 24 is arranged in the letter path downstream of the printing window 221 and serves to detect letters located on the transport device 2 and to trigger or terminate the print command. Both sensors 23, 24 and the drive part 21 are connected to a control computer 3 for the franking machine, see also FIG. 9.
The printing system 1 consists of a frame 10, two printing modules I, II, 11, a receptacle 12 for the aforementioned two and an associated cleaning and sealing device - in the further RDV -, see also Fig. 2.
Each printing module 11 consists of an ink jet print head 110 together with ink supply and drive board - not designated -. The nozzle surfaces 111 of the inkjet printing heads 110 and the printing modules 11 are arranged in the printing position I - angle 0 degrees - in the printing window 221 parallel to the guide plate 22 but offset from one another. In this way the required pressure gap length is achieved. Accordingly, the printing modules 11 are arranged offset in the receptacle 12.
The receptacle 12 is pivotally mounted about an axis 121 which is fixed in the frame 10. The adjustment of the receptacle 12 by means of a servomotor 124 via a worm gear 123, see also Fig. 3. The control is performed by a rotary encoder 125th starting from the control computer 3 of the franking machine, see also FIG. 9.
On the frame 10, two stops 126, 127 are provided which limit the pivoting range of the receptacle 12.
The stop 126 serves to define the print position I, which is at the same time the first calibration position for the rotary encoder 125, see FIGS. 2, 3 and 7.
The stopper 127 serves to define the outermost position in the cleaning area V, which is the second calibration position for the rotary encoder 125 and also a wiping position. Since the angle - 85 degrees - between the two stops 126, 127 is given constructive, can be calibrated starting from the encoder 125 for the purpose of setting the different cleaning areas II, III, IV and V and the sealing position VI, see also Fig. 5. Thus, individual deviations of the rotary encoder 125 are eliminated.
Remarks on the cleaning areas follow later.

According to FIGS. 2 and 5, both TDK 110 are elastically kinematically coupled to a common baffle 132, which is designed shell-shaped. For this purpose, a wheel 122 is rotatably mounted on the receptacle 12 of the printing modules 11 and externally formed on the baffle 132 a leading edge 1323 and the baffle 132 is connected to the receptacle 12 via a tension spring 1322. As a result, the wheel 122 is frictionally against the leading edge 1323 and forms with this a slide guide for the impact piece 132nd

The RDV 13 has a receptacle 131 with wiper lips 1311, a spray slot 1312 and sealing caps 1313, which are arranged in the order named behind the guide plate 22, see also FIGS. 2, 3 and 6.
For the adjustment of the RDV 13, a spindle gear 1314 together with a guide shaft 1318 and a servomotor 1315 and a sensor 1316 are provided for the reference point adjustment, see Fig.2 and 3. The sensor 1316 and the servomotor 1315 are electrically connected to the control computer 3, see Fig. 9.
For cleaning the wiper lips 1311, a carrier 1317 is provided with wipers 13171, which is arranged stationarily in the engagement region of the wiper lips 1311, see FIGS. 3 and 5.

The ink sump 133 is formed of a tray 1331 having a nonwoven fabric 13311 and a securing bracket 13312. The insert 1331 is guided in a frontally open receptacle 131 and provided for ease of interchangeability with a handle 13313, see Fig. 1 to 5.

While the printing position I and the sealing position VI are determined by clearly defined positions of the TDK 110 and the RDS 13, the cleaning regions II to V, as the name implies, are sliding continuously adjustable.
The sealing position VI is determined according to a predetermined setting by the rotary encoder 125 so that the nozzle surface 111 is arranged orthogonal to the wiper lips 1311 of the RDS 13.
For triggering the various positions of the TDK 110 and the RDS 13, the sensors 23, 24 arranged in the letter path and the sensor 1316 for the reference point adjustment are linked to the control computer 3, see FIG. 9.
In the first cleaning area II, the TDK 110 has been moved so far away from the printing position I for the purpose of free spraying that at least twice the distance to the letter or print carrier is present, but all the ink drops still reach the letter. In this case, the effect is exploited that from twice the provided printing distance, the ink droplets drop into correspondingly smaller satellite drops whose range is so large that no recognizable print pattern is given more.
In the second cleaning area III, the TDK 110 has been moved so far away from the printing position I for the purpose of free-spraying that no more ink drops reach the letter and all the ink droplets strike the impact element 132.
In the third cleaning area IV, the TDK 110 has been pivoted so far away from the printing position I for the purpose of free spraying that all ink droplets impinge directly on the nonwoven 13311. This also includes the position in which is injected by the injection slot 1312.
As is apparent from the above, is advantageously used in contrast to the prior art in the cleaning areas II to IV, the time for free spraying, in which the TDK 110 is in motion, which significantly shortens the downtime.

In the fourth cleaning region V, the TDK 110 is pivoted away from the printing position I so far that the nozzle surface 111 is arranged in the engagement region of the wiper lips 1311.
To capture the sealing position VI, the TDK 110 is docked on the previously positioned RDS13 and thus on the sealing caps 1313 coming out of the fourth cleaning area V and undocked in the same.
