Abstract

The method involves creating a tape loop in a tape channel (3) that is curved at an article (2) by inserting a tape (10). The loop is separated by the tape on a supply roller (7), where the tape is pre-curved in a direction, which is opposite to a bending direction of the tape in the loop. The tape is held and laterally guided against a channel base during provision of the loop in a tape channel part (3.1). An independent claim is also included for a device for strapping of articles with a plastic tape from a supply roller.

Description

The invention relates to a method and a device according to the preambles of the corresponding independent claims. Method and apparatus are used for strapping objects by means of a plastic tape.

Devices for more or less automatic strapping of objects with a band-shaped strapping material, for example, have been known for about a hundred years. Many of these devices work according to the same principle briefly described below. The strapping is fed from a supply roll. For each strapping, the free end of the strapping band for creating a strap loop from an insertion area, which is usually located under the object to be strapped, is pushed into a band channel which extends from the object spaced around it. When the free end of the tape in the tape channel is advanced back to the lead-in area, that is, when the article is surrounded by a tape loop, the free end of the tape is held and the tape feed is stopped. Then, the tape is pulled back in the opposite direction, whereby the tape loop is reduced and thereby pulled out of the tape channel and placed around the object and tightened. The tightened loop is then closed by connecting the free end of the tape to another tape portion in the lead-in area by suitable means and separated from the further supplied tape, creating another, free end of the tape for the next strapping arises.

The early strapping devices were operated with a strapping material made of metal, for example with a metal band, wherein the strapping was closed by welding or by means of pressed-on clamps. The strapping devices operate with relatively long cycle times, not only because closing the metal strapping is a time consuming step but also because the metal strapping material has considerable mass and rigidity and therefore can not be rapidly accelerated and bent around small radii, that is substantially must run directly from the supply roll to the lead-in area, so that for the tape feed and the tape retraction, the supply roll must be rotated. However, the high inherent rigidity of the metal strapping material has the advantage that the band channel open, that is, in the region in which it rises from the support surface of the article, can be designed as a simple, open towards the object U-profile. Thanks to the inherent rigidity of the metal strapping material and thanks to the curved shape of the band channel, the free end of the strapping material, without being held in any way, runs along the channel bottom and the loop formed in the channel is pressed against this channel bottom by its resilient resistance against the bend. Strapping devices of the type mentioned are described for example in the publications US 1650843 or US 2707429 ,

In the meantime, metal straps as strapping materials have been replaced wherever possible by plastic straps, in particular by structured ribbons of polypropylene having a thickness of usually 0.3 to 0.5 mm and a width of usually 5 to 8 mm. The plastic tapes are not only less expensive than the metal strapping materials, but they are also lighter and, as the later development of the strapping devices shows, they also allow significant faster cycle times. This is on the one hand due to the fact that the strapping can be closed faster by welding, and on the other hand, that the plastic straps can be stored in an unordered state thanks to their significantly higher flexibility, so that for the feeding and retraction of the band no longer the relative large mass of the supply roll must be driven in rapid succession alternately in opposite directions. Due to the mentioned differences between the two types of strapping materials and the possible further development of the strapping devices, it has become possible to shorten the strapping cycle time by more than one order of magnitude. However, it has been shown that the plastic tape does not have enough rigidity to be able to create a band loop in an open band channel. For this reason, the belt channel parts of the newer strapping devices that curve over the support surface have active or passive closure means, such that the belt channel is closed against the object to be strapped for the production of the belt loop and passively or through a suitable one for the withdrawal of the loop Drive is actively opened.

Umreifungsmaschinen, mit denen das oben erwähnte Kunststoffband als Umreifungsmaterial mit kurzen Zykluszeiten verarbeitet werden kann, sind beispielsweise beschrieben in den Publikationen DE-4230730 , DE-3303956 oder DE-4100276 .Strapping machines, with which the above-mentioned plastic tape can be processed as strapping material with short cycle times, are described for example in the publications DE-4230730 . DE-3303956 or DE-4100276 ,

The invention now has the task of further driving the development briefly described above in the field of strapping devices, that is to provide a method and a device for strapping, which are based on the above briefly illustrated working principle and which are suitable for processing a Plastic band, in particular a band made of polypropylene. Method and device according to the invention should allow the cycle time required per strapping in the Compared with known strapping again relevant to shorten. Nevertheless, the method and device should be easy to implement.

This object is achieved by the method and apparatus for strapping as defined in the claims.

The invention is based on the following two findings:
  • The plastic band can be pulled out of the band channel faster and still placed in an orderly manner to the object to be strapped when the band channel for pulling out the band loop does not need to be opened, but is designed as an open channel, that is, when the band during withdrawal on no resistance, in particular no irregular, the loop shape changing resistance pushes, which slow it and in particular irregular braking and thus could bring in an unstable shape.
  • The plastic tape can be inserted without problems in a configured as an open channel belt channel, so without being held in the channel when it is biased immediately before this insertion by bending in a band bending in the band channel opposite direction. This bias can hold the band in an open band channel and give the band loop a stability that is sufficient for a quick but still orderly application to the object to be strapped.

According to the method according to the invention, therefore, the strapping band is pre-bent, as far as possible immediately before insertion into the band channel (forward bending direction) against the bending direction in the band channel) and then pushed into a band channel, which is at least where the band loop is pulled out of the channel during the reduction, an open channel, which has no closing means. The prebending radius is preferably smaller than the smallest bending radius of the band in the band channel. For pre-bending, the band is advantageously pulled around a pulley, the loop of this pulley advantageously being more than 180 ° and the looped pulley being part of the belt drive for inserting the band into the band channel, for example.

The strapping device according to the invention thus has, in combination, an open band channel part and a prebending means. The open band channel part is, for example, a channel which curves over a support surface for the object to be strapped and is open towards the object. The Vorbiegemittel is arranged as close to the insertion in the band channel and it is equipped for a band bending in a band bending in the band channel opposite direction. The Vorbiegemittel is for example one of two mutually pressable drive rollers through which the tape is driven for insertion into the band channel.

It can be seen that the cycle time can be shortened by about 20% through the combination of the pre-bend and the open band channel according to the invention.

FIG. 1 shows an exemplary embodiment of the inventive strapping device. This has, as known such strapping devices, the following, mounted in a frame, not shown major components: a support surface 1, are positioned on the objects to be strapped 2 successively, a band channel 3 with a first band channel part 3.1, which positioned on the strapping for Article 2 curves, and a second band channel part 3.2, which is a groove in the support surface 1 and passes under the object positioned for strapping through, a closing unit 4, which is equipped for holding the free end of the tape and for closing and separating the belt loop and is arranged in the region of the second band channel part 3.2, drive means 5 for the tape feed (insertion into the tape channel) and the tape retraction (reduction and tightening of the tape loop), a tape storage 6, in the supplied and withdrawn from the tape channel 3 band ready for further strapping being held, and a supply roll 7 from which the strapping tape is fed. The strapping itself is denoted by 10, the feed direction of the belt 10 indicated by arrows B.

The strapping device according to FIG. 1 differs from known devices which serve the same purpose, characterized in that the tape drive for the tape feed into the tape channel 3 although in a conventional manner two drive rollers 20 and 21, which are pressed against each other in a drive point 22 and between which the strapping 10 runs and but that is driven Band is guided in the feed direction behind the drive point 22 such that one of the drive rollers (20) is wrapped by the strapping 10, advantageously by more than 180 °. Furthermore, the strapping device shown differs from known devices in that the first band channel part 3.1, which curves over the contact surface 1, is an open channel, that is to say has a U-shaped cross-section which is open towards the inside and no closing means.

The first band channel part 3.1 is advantageously curved over its entire length, wherein its smallest radius of curvature is greater than the radius of the belt looped by the strapping drive roller 20, which corresponds to the Vorbiegeradius. At the transitions from the first to the second band channel part, the support surface 1 is aligned tangentially to the first band channel part 3.1. In order to keep the length and space requirements of the first band channel part 3.1 as small as possible and still be able to adapt this band channel part 3.1 as well as possible to the shape of the objects to be packaged, it is advantageous to design different areas of the first band channel part with different radii of curvature.

The drive means 5, in addition to the drive for the tape feed (drive rollers 20 and 21) and a drive for the retraction of the tape. This consists essentially of the drive rollers 23 and 24, which serve as tape guide during the tape feed, that is, the strapping 10 lead such that it is pulled by the feed drive (drive rollers 20 and 21) to the drive roller 20 and thereby pre-bent before it gets into the drive point 22. During the tape feed (direction according to arrows B), the rollers 20 and 21 are pressed against each other and at least one of them is driven, while the rollers 23 and 24 are not pressed against each other and rotate freely. During the retraction of the belt 10, the rollers 23 and 24 are pressed against each other and at least one of them is driven, while the rollers 20 and 21 are not pressed against each other and rotate freely.

FIGS. 2 and 3 show cross sections through the band channel 3, FIG. 2 through the first band channel part 3.1 (section line II-II in Fig. 1) and Figure 3 through the second band channel part 3.2 (section line III-III in Fig. 1 ).

How out FIG. 2 it can be seen, the first band channel part 3.1 has an open against the object to be strapped, U-shaped cross-section and it has no means with which it could be closed. The strapping 10 is thus guided only laterally on its introduction into this band channel part but not held against the channel bottom 30.

In contrast, as in FIG. 3 represented, the second band channel part 3.2 a cover 35 had. This cover 35 is used in particular to the band channel part 3.2. cover when the object to be strapped is positioned for strapping and when this positioning is performed by pushing the object on the support surface. The cover 35 is removed at the latest before the removal of the strapped object from the band channel part 3.2. In particular, if the objects to be strapped are positioned in a different manner, the cover 35 may also be missing.

The two band channel parts 3.1 and 3.2 advantageously have the same width (slightly wider than the strapping band 10) and the same depth, which is advantageously about 5 to 10 mm for strapping bands 10 having a standard thickness.
