Claims (8)

  1. Method of closing an extended calendering nip of a calendering arrangement for calendering a fibrous web (1), in particular a paper, board or tissue web, in a machine for producing and/or finishing the same, which nip is formed between a calendering roll (2) and an opposing roll (3) arranged underneath, the calendering roll (2) having a flexible roll shell (4) which is pressed towards the opposing roll (3) by a pressing element (5), characterized in that, before or during the closure of the calendering nip by means of shell tensioning means (5, 6, 7) and/or during the closure of the calendering nip by means of shell suction means (8), the roll shell (4) in the region of the calendering nip is brought into contact with the pressing surface of the pressing element (5) over its entire length, the roll shell (4) only then being brought into contact with the opposing roll (3).
  2. Method according to Claim 1, characterized in that, before or during the closure of the calendering nip, the pressing element (5) as a shell tensioning means is pressed in the direction of the opposing roll (3) to such an extent that the roll shell (4) rests on the pressing surface of the pressing element (5) over its entire length.
  3. Method according to Claim 1 or 2, characterized in that, before or during the closure of the calendering nip, the roll shell (4) is tensioned via a shell tensioning means, preferably in the form of guide strips (6, 7) running axially in the roll shell (4), which press the roll shell (4) radially outwards outside the pressing element (5), in such a way that the roll shell (4) rests on the pressing surface of the pressing element (5) over its entire length.

  7. Method according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the speed of the roll shell (4) in the calendering nip region during the closure of the calendering nip is brought at least into approximate agreement with the peripheral speed of the opposing roll (3).
  8. Calendering arrangement for calendering a paper, board, tissue or another fibrous web (1) in a machine for producing and/or finishing the same having an extended calendering nip, which is formed between a calendering roll (2) and an opposing roll (3) arranged underneath, the calendering roll (2) having a flexible roll shell (4) which is pressed towards the opposing roll (3) by a pressing element (5), in particular for implementing the method according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that shell tensioning and/or suction means are provided which ensure that, during the closure of the calendering nip, the roll shell (4) in the region of the calendering nip rests on the pressing surface of the pressing element (5) over its entire length before the roll shell (4) is brought into contact with the opposing roll (3).
