Abstract

Communications cable is made up of pairs of wires twisted together and enclosed in insulation. Each pair is then twisted with others to form a larger cable (3). This is then wrapped in a band (4) of flame-resistant insulating material and a polyolefin layer (5) extruded over it. A sealed metal sleeve is fitted over this which is enclosed in a non-inflammable coating.

Description

The invention relates to a communication cable with a plurality of wires consisting of insulated conductors, in which the wires are stranded together to stranding elements, a large number of which is combined in a cable core, and in which the cable core surrounded at least by a sheath of insulating material is.

Such communication cables - in the following called "cables" for short - have been known for a long time and are in use worldwide. They are described, for example, in the textbook "Kabeltechnik" by M. Klein, Spinger Verlag 1929, pages 224 to 226. The cables are normally sufficient for all technical transmission and mechanical requirements. However, if cables have emergency running properties in the event of a fire or if they are intended to secure the insulation, appropriate insulating materials and insulation techniques must be used and in many cases also other structures must be used. Corresponding measures can lead to a deterioration of the transmission properties.

The invention has for its object to make the initially described cable so that it meets all requirements for safety reasons in case of fire with unchanged good transmission properties.

This object is achieved according to the invention characterized
  • in that the insulation of the conductors consists of an inner layer made of a flame-resistant insulating material and an outer layer produced by extrusion of a polyolefin, which is firmly connected to the inner layer,
  • that over the cable core consisting of a metal band, closed shell is attached and
  • that over the shell of existing non-combustible material coat is applied, which is glued to the shell.

In this cable are used as insulating non-flammable or flame-retardant and / or flame-resistant materials. The cable is therefore not flammable so that it can be used with advantage for example in tunnels or other areas with increased risk in case of fire. The head of the wires are also surrounded in the inner layer of flame-resistant insulating material that retains its insulating properties in case of fire, even at high temperatures at least for a sufficiently long period, so that the functionality of the cable is guaranteed for this period (emergency operation). All insulating materials of the cable are also advantageously selected so that their electrical properties allow optimum transmission of telecommunications signals. This applies in particular to the inner layer directly surrounding the conductors of the wires, for which, for example, a material of glass / silicone / mica, of glass fibers and / or of ceramic fibers can be used. The outer layer surrounding the inner layer is made of a polyolefin whose good electrical properties are well known. In addition to the increased security of the cable in case of fire so its good electrical properties are guaranteed, so that such a cable on the one hand without problems with other cables whose design is designed only for electrical or transmission requirements, and on the other hand for higher frequencies up 1 MHz and higher, as required for the transmission of current digital signals with high bit rates.

The cable K shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 has Verseileiemente 1, which consist of two wires stranded together to a pair 2. Instead of the pairs could be used as Verseilelemente also in the news area usual star quads, in which four wires 2 are stranded with exact assignment to each other. The stranding elements 1 are arranged in the illustrated embodiment in layer stranding in superimposed layers in the cable K. For the sake of clarity, gaps between the stranding elements 1 are shown. These gaps are actually not present because the Verseileiemente 1 are directly adjacent. The stranding elements 1 can be combined in bundles in the cable core in deviation from the illustrated strand stranding.

Each wire 2 has, according to FIGS. 3 and 4, a conductor 3, which is surrounded by an inner layer 4 of a flame-resistant insulating material. Suitable insulating materials are, for example, materials based on glass / silicone / mica, which is also known under the trade name "Mica", as well as materials with glass fibers and / or ceramic fibers. Overlying the inner layer 4 is an extrusion-produced layer 5 of polyolefin, which may be polyethylene or even a halogen-free, flame-retardant polyethylene-based compound.

The inner layer 4 has at least one band which is wound around the conductor 3 with overlapping edges. It is constructed in a preferred embodiment of two bands 6 and 7, which are wrapped around the conductor 3 with overlapping edges. The bands 6 and 7 are made of the above materials. They are wound in a preferred embodiment in the opposite direction around the conductor 3, as shown in Fig. 3. The bands 6 and 7 have a different width in a preferred embodiment. The wider band 7 is preferably wrapped around the conductor 3 directly surrounding, narrower band 6. The layer 5 is firmly connected to the inner layer 4, which has no smooth surface because of the wound tapes. The material of the layer 5 can therefore "catch" during extrusion with the inner layer.

To produce the cable K in the illustrated embodiment, two wires 2 are first stranded together in pairs. The stranding takes place in a preferred embodiment with a complete (100%) reverse rotation. The resulting stranding elements 1 are then stranded in, for example, three superimposed layers to a cable core 8 also with complete reverse rotation, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. The cable core 8 can also have more than three or only two layers. Between the individual layers of the stranding elements 1 windings can be attached. The cable core 8 may be surrounded by a winding. The stranding elements 1 can also be combined into bundles.

Formed around the cable core 8 is a closed sheath 9 consisting of a metal band. The metal band is, in a preferred embodiment, longitudinally formed, with overlapping edges around the cable core 8. The overlap seam is advantageously closed metallically. The metal strip is preferably made of aluminum. It is designed for example as aluminum foil. The metal strip may be coated on one side with a layer in the finished cable K outer layer of a copolymer as a primer, which is tacky when exposed to heat. The metal strip or the shell 9 is then glued in a kind of sandwich design with a jacket 10 made of insulating material, which is extruded onto the shell 9. The bonding is effected by the heat of the extruded shell 10. The bonding between the envelope 9 and the jacket 10 is also achieved if, prior to the extrusion of the jacket 10, a bonding agent is applied to the envelope 9.

In an advantageous embodiment of the cable K, according to FIG. 2, a reinforcement 11 can first be attached over the casing 9, onto which the casing 10 is then extruded. The reinforcement 11 is in a preferred embodiment of two steel strips, which are wound over each other lying with a gap. The gaps of one band are covered with advantage by the other steel band.
