Definitions
- the invention relates to signal optics as they are used in light signals, especially in rail transport.
- the invention is concerned with the neutralization of signal phantoms in light signals.
- Light signals used in traffic can cause disturbances commonly referred to as phantoms. This interference is caused by extraneous light, which falls on or in the signal from the outside. In certain cases, this external light deceives a signal that does not exist, or it interferes more or less with the existing signal. This stray light can either come from a vehicle headlight or, as in most cases, from the sun.
- An auxiliary device for supporting recognition of the activated color of traffic lights in sunlight wherein at least one intermittently switched intensive light source with a luminance which corresponds at least to the luminance of the light source is arranged in the edge region of the cover within a signal body which is self-sufficient, if an electronic switch is closed by a sensor arranged in the signal body and associated with the signal color ( DE 202 12 792 U1 ).
- an optical element of LED and two lenses for the production of a light spot for traffic signs and display panels which consists of a light emitting diode, at least one converging lens and a scattering lens, which is arranged coaxially in a common housing ( EP 0 930 600 A1 ).
- a signal optics having a front surface for emitting the signal light into the environment, wherein the signal optics to externally on or in the signal optics incident extraneous light as uniform as possible, from the place of incidence practically independent reflection behavior, and wherein the signal light through the Signal optics is delivered only within a defined fraction of the front surface into the environment.
- the signal optics consists of those elements of a light signal with which the signal light is directed and emitted. These elements may therefore be, for example, lenses, lenticular screens or discs.
- the signal light itself is the light generated and emitted by the light signal.
- the front surface of the signal optic corresponds to the total surface of the optics, through which the signal light is emitted into the environment. It is the total surface of the opening from which the light leaves the light signal.
- the front surface of the "green” signal is the circular area of round lens behind which the light source of the "green” signal hides.
- the extraneous light incident in the signal optics is not generated by the light signal. It can basically come from any source of light that is in the vicinity of the light signal. In most cases, the extraneous light is sunlight.
- the extraneous light can come from outside on or into the signal optics.
- the extraneous light does not penetrate into the signal optics, but is reflected directly at its input, thus causing a so-called reflex phantom.
- the light penetrates into the signal optics, so that "secondary light sources" arise that pass through the signal optics in the form of similar beam paths and simulate the illumination of the signal.
- the signal optics have a uniform reflection behavior that is virtually independent of the location of the incidence.
- the signal optics are designed such that occurring phantoms when viewed along the front surface of the signal optics as evenly as possible, i. occur with as uniform a light intensity as possible. So, for example, the signal optics along their entire front surface and their intermediate surfaces have a quasi-uniform reflection behavior, so that seen from the front in direct sunlight, the whole front surface and intermediate surfaces evenly contributes to the formation of phantoms.
- the optical elements in the signal optics are arranged and / or arranged such that, when viewing a true phantom that occurs, it is perceived with equal intensity over the entire front surface and along the entire front surface.
- the signal light is not sent out over the entire available area of the front surface to the outside. Rather, only a defined portion of the front surface is used to emit the signal light. No signal light is emitted over the remaining area of the front surface. A viewer thus sees when the signal is on, as long as no phantoms occur, not the entire front surface light up, but only the defined portion.
- the fraction of the front surface is a circular, square or rhombic surface.
- These geometric shapes are easy to implement and are particularly suitable for round or square signal optics. It is particularly expedient if the circular area or square area lies in the center of the front surface.
- a particularly simple embodiment is obtained when the diameter of the circular area or the edge length of the square area is two thirds to half as large as the diameter of the front surface.
- the signal optic preferably has at least one light source for generating the signal light.
- the signal optics may additionally comprise at least one light source dummy.
- the light source dummy is an element whose reflection behavior corresponds as far as possible to the reflection behavior of a true light source. Unlike the light source, however, the dummy does not emit light.
- the signal optics have a plurality of dummy light sources, and these are arranged symmetrically around the light source, an equivalent reflection behavior is achieved in the entire region around the light source.
- the dummies should be grouped around the light source in such a way that upon reflection of incident extraneous light on the light source and the dummies, a true phantom is created in which the entire front surface illuminates uniformly.
- the at least one light source is a light emitting diode.
- the signal optic additionally comprises a lens and / or a lens and / or a lens. With these optical elements, the signal light can be bundled and directed in the desired manner.
- Fig. 1 shows the cross section of a signal optics 100, which forms a circular area. It is a signal optic that is used in round light signals.
- the signal optics 100 consists of real LEDs or LEDs 101 and LED dummies 102 and not electrically connected LEDs.
- the cross section shows six LED dummies 102 and three real LEDs 101. Overall, the signal optics 100 has a larger number of LEDs and corresponding dummies.
- the real LEDs are arranged in the center of the circular area.
- the dummies are grouped in a ring around the real LEDs.
- the circular area or circular disk which is formed jointly by the real LEDs and the dummies, corresponds to the front surface of the signal optics 100. If now extraneous light strikes the entire front surface of the signal optics 100, it is reflected from the entire area in a uniform manner. In particular, the extraneous light is reflected in the outer region of the dummy in a similar manner as in the central region of the real LEDs. In this is also the point of the dummy: without the dummies, incoming extraneous light would create a phantom whose dimensions coincide with those of the area covered by the real LEDs. The dummies provide an additional area at which incident light is reflected in a similar manner as on the real light-emitting diodes. Without the dummies, a distinction between the signal and its phantom would not be possible.
- Fig. 2 shows a second signal optics 200.
- the signal optics 200 has the same LED disc as the signal optics 100 with identical real LEDs 201 and identical LED dummies 202 and not electrically connected LEDs.
- 200 additional optical elements are provided in the signal optics.
- the signal optics 200 has a lens grid 203, a diffuser 204 and a cover plate 205. These optical elements are used in a known manner for bundling and steering the light generated by the LEDs 201.
- the path of two light beams 206, 207 through the signal optics 200 is exemplified.
- Fig. 3 shows a front view illustrating how the light of a signal optics according to the invention is perceived by the viewer.
- the signal optics is constructed in principle as the signal optics 100 or 200. In particular, this is designed so that the real LEDs in the center illuminate a circular disk A whose diameter d is half the diameter D of the Front surface is 300.
- a ring B Around the disc A is a ring B, which corresponds to the LED dummies and covers the remaining area of the front surface 300.
- the phantom occurs when the signal is on, a clear distinction is also possible.
- the phantom covers again the entire area of the front surface 300.
- the area A shines more strongly than the rest, because here adds the phantom with the signal light.
- the perturbations occurring by phantoms can be neutralized in a simple manner.
- the viewer can clearly determine in each situation whether a real signal is present.
- the neutralization occurs without sacrificing the light intensity of the signal.

Description
So offenbart K. Grosskurth in seinem Artikel "'Phantom-Erscheinungen' an Lichtsignalen", Lichttechnik 9.
- Fig. 1
- eine erste Ausführungsform einer erfindungsgemäßen Signaloptik;
- Fig. 2
- eine zweite Ausführungsform einer erfindungsgemäßen Signaloptik;
- Fig. 3
-
Fig. 2 zeigt eine zweite Signaloptik 200.
