Heating elements known by specialists "steatite resistance" are known to be mounted in a metal sheath.

Such heating elements are for example described in the document US Patent 1670437 .

The assembled assembly is held in position by a central fixing and holding rod, and is then locked in position.

The connection of these heating elements of known type is generally done by means of lugs, terminals, nuts or other auxiliary means of electrical and mechanical connections.

The document CH 138 266 discloses insulating elements having at each end means for indexing in rotation of an insulating element relative to its neighbor, so as to achieve an angular offset between successive insulators while ensuring a locking in translation of the conductive wire.

Heating elements of known type generally give satisfaction, but require a significant preparation and assembly time, as well as a number of connection accessories further increasing the finishing time and electrical control of the mounted assembly.

A first object of the invention is to improve the state of the art, by providing a new insulating element for the manufacture of heating elements for quick and easy assembly.

A second object of the invention is to provide a new insulating element retaining the high temperature mechanical and dielectric characteristics of the prior art, while allowing to remove the holding rod of the prior art.

A third object of the invention is to provide a heating element consisting of assembling insulating elements according to the invention, and to avoid the use of terminals, nuts, lugs or other auxiliary means of connection.

wherein each insulating element commonly referred to as a "barrel" is made of ceramic material, in particular steatite, and has:
  • a central recess providing central relief of the insulating member having a first diameter,
  • a plurality of longitudinal housings having a second diameter, for wound or twisted conductive wires, said longitudinal housing being separated regularly by spacers;
  • and at each end of the indexing means in rotation of the insulating element with respect to a subsequent insulating element, so as to achieve an angular offset between successive insulators, while ensuring a locking in translation of the conductive wire,
said heating element being constituted by mounting conductive wires wound or twisted on an alignment of a connecting head of insulating material and of several insulating elements, in successive longitudinal housings;
characterized in that said first diameter is greater than twice the value of said second diameter and in that each insulating member has at each end conductive wire passages communicating a longitudinal housing of an insulating member with an angularly longitudinal housing offset from another insulating element, to obtain a stepped bend of the conductor wire which, in cooperation with the lightening of the heating elements, and their angular offset, allows to remove the holding rod.

The invention will be better understood from the following description given by way of nonlimiting example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
  • The figure 1 schematically represents a partially cutaway perspective view of a heater assembly for an electric water heater.
  • The figure 2 schematically represents a perspective view of a heating element according to the invention, in which the conductive wires are not shown.
  • The figure 3 schematically represents two perspective views at two different angles of the two ends of an insulating member according to the invention.

With reference to the figure 1 , a heating assembly intended to be mounted on an electric water heater tank comprises a sheath 1 of enamelled metal, a flange 2 forming a cover, and a bundle 3 of insulated conductors connected to a steatite resistance comprising an alignment of insulating elements 5a 6 on which is mounted conductor wire generally twisted and intended to be worn at high temperature.

According to the invention, each insulating element 5a, 6 has a central recess providing a relief of the insulating element greater than ten percent, while maintaining the mechanical and dielectric characteristics of the insulating element at high temperature.

The assembly also comprises a glove finger 4 of a type known per se and does not require a more detailed description.

The insulated wires of the bundle 3 are connected to a heating thermostat, not shown, and are directly connected to the conductive wires of the steatite resistance by crimping or direct assembly, so as to avoid the use of terminals, nuts, lugs, or other auxiliary means. connection.

The steatite resistance is maintained in the sheath 1 by a peripheral locking means of the circlip type or the like.

Mounting and maintaining the steatite resistance in the metal sleeve 1 by a peripheral locking means makes it possible to eliminate the central fixing rod of the prior art without any adverse effect on the strength and the operation of the assembly.

With reference to the figure 2 , a heating element according to the invention comprises a connecting head 6 of insulating material, for example steatite, and several insulating elements 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d, made for example steatite.

The insulating member 5a is aligned with the connecting head 6, while the adjacent insulators 5a and 5b, 5b and 5c, 5c and 5d are aligned with each other at a predetermined angular offset.

Thus, when the conductive wire goes from an insulating member 5 to an adjacent insulator 5, it undergoes a bend forming a staircase conformation which ensures the locking in translation of the conductive wire and allows to respect the dielectric spacing distances between electrically active.

La tête 6 de raccordement en matériau isolant présente avantageusement un épaulement 7 périphérique destiné à coopérer avec un circlips ou moyen équivalent de blocage périphérique, assurant le maintien vertical de la résistance stéatite à l'intérieur du fourreau émaillé 1 décrit en référence à la figure 1.The connecting head 6 of insulating material advantageously has a peripheral shoulder 7 intended to cooperate with a circlip or equivalent means of peripheral locking, ensuring the vertical retention of the steatite resistance inside the enamelled sheath 1 described with reference to the figure 1 .

According to the invention, each insulating element 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d and the connection head 6 has a central recess providing a relief of the insulating element greater than ten percent, while retaining the mechanical and dielectric characteristics of the insulating element at high temperature.

The central lightening of the insulating elements 5a, 5b, 5c, 5d and of the connection head 6 makes it possible, by the rigidity and the resulting weight gain, to eliminate the central fixing rod of the prior art. This central fixing rod of the prior art had in effect the mechanical strength, mainly in bending, the assembly of the insulating elements and the head between them during the assembly phases.

Thanks to the invention, the assembled assembly is less heavy, and deforms little under the effect of its own weight.

The assembly of the insulating elements and the head between them is subjected to a much lower bending during the assembly phases and withstands the different phases of assembly, without requiring the central fixing rod of the prior art.

En référence à la figure 3, un élément isolant selon l'invention présente à une première extrémité des moyens d'indexation 10 situés de part et d'autre d'un évidement central 13.With reference to the figure 3 , an insulating element according to the invention has at one end indexing means 10 located on either side of a central recess 13.

The central recess 13 provides a significant relief of the insulating member 5, while retaining the mechanical and high temperature dielectric characteristics of the prior art.

The insulating element 5 comprises at the other end of the other indexing means 11 located on either side of the central recess 13 and intended to cooperate with indexing means 10 of an adjacent insulating element 5, not shown.

The indexing means 10 and 11 are angularly offset by a predetermined value to obtain a stepped bending of the unrepresented lead wire.

The bent wire passes from one insulating element 5 to the other via channels 12 or passages, allowing the communication of a longitudinal housing 8 of an insulating element with an adjacent longitudinal housing 8 of another adjacent insulating element.

Dans l'exemple représenté, l'élément isolant 5 comporte douze logements longitudinaux 8, séparés régulièrement par des barrettes 9 d'espacement destiné à venir sensiblement au contact de la surface intérieure d'un fourreau émaillé 1 décrit en référence à la figure 1.In the example shown, the insulating element 5 comprises twelve longitudinal housings 8, separated regularly by spacing strips 9 intended to come into substantially contact with the inner surface of an enamelled sheath 1 described with reference to the figure 1 .

Preferably, the indexing means 10 and 11 are made in the form of pins or male positioning conformations and in the form of housings or female positioning conformations intended to receive a locating pin of an adjacent insulating element.

The positioning pins 10 and the receiving housings 11 are preferably arranged on either side of the central recess 13 with an angular offset equal to half the angle defined by two successive longitudinal housings 8.

In the example shown, the angle formed by two successive longitudinal housing 8 is 15 degrees, while the angular offset of the lugs 10 and the housing 11 is 7 degrees and a half: this arrangement thus makes it possible to obtain a bend in stair wire sufficient to ensure longitudinal retention, while avoiding a risk of thermal expansion likely to remove two successive insulating elements.

The lightening of the heating elements according to the invention and their angular offset which allows cooperation with the stepwise bending of the conductive wire makes it possible to eliminate the holding rod of the prior art, while maintaining a good vertical stability of the steatite resistance. , even at high temperatures.

The invention described with reference to a particular embodiment is not limited thereto, but on the contrary covers any modification of form and any variant embodiment covered by the claims.

Thus, the central recess may be cylindrical or adopt any other geometric conformation, the essential being to obtain a reduction of the order of one third compared to the prior art while retaining the mechanical and dielectric characteristics at high temperature of the prior art.

characterised in that the said first diameter is twice as large as the value of the said second diameter; in that each insulating element (5) comprises at each end conductive wire passages (12) which make a longitudinal receptacle (8) of an insulating element (5) communicate with an angularly offset longitudinal receptacle (8) of another insulating element (5), in order to obtain bending in the form of a staircase of the conductor wire, which, in co-operation with the lightening of the heating elements and their angular offsetting, makes it possible to eliminate the retention rod.
  2. Heating element according to claim 1, characterised in that each insulating element (5) has a cylindrical form comprising two positioning lugs (10) and two receptacles (11) to receive a positioning lug (10), such as to align the insulating elements (5) with a predetermined angular offsetting.
  3. Heating element according to claim 2, characterised in that the positioning lugs (10) and the receptacles (11) for receipt are angularly offset and arranged on both sides of the central recess (13).
  4. Heating element according to either of claims 2 or 3, characterised in that the angular offsetting is equal to half the angle defined by two successive longitudinal receptacles (8).
  5. Heating element according to claim 1, characterised in that the connection head (6) made of insulating material has a peripheral shoulder (7) which is designed to co-operate with a circlip or an equivalent peripheral locking means, in order to assure the vertical retention of the heating element.
  6. Heating element according to claim 1, characterised in that the ends of these conductive wires are directly crimped or assembled on conductors which are connected to a thermostat, such as to avoid the use of terminals, nuts, connectors, or other auxiliary connection means.
