    wherein the closing device (25) is arranged laterally of a main transport path (8) of the containers (5) from the supply device (2) to the removal device (11);
    and wherein a device is provided which transports at least one container (5) to be closed into the closing device (25) by means of a linear motion while it transports at least one closed container (5'') out from the closing device (25).
  2. Packaging machine according to claim 1, wherein at least two receiving elements (3, 3') are provided which interchange their position for transporting a container (5) to be closed into the closing device (25) and transporting a closed container (5'') out from the closing device (25).
  3. Packaging machine according to claim 2, wherein a transport device (6, 7) is provided which, simultaneously to the closing of a container (5') transported into the closing device with one receiving element (3'), removes a closed container (5'') from another receiving element (3) and supplies a container (5) to be closed thereto.
  4. Packaging machine according to one of claims 1 to 3,
    wherein the device for transporting the container (5) into the closing device (25) and for transporting the closed container (5'') out from the closing device (25) performs a vertical linear motion.
  5. Packaging machine according to one of claims 2 to 4,
    wherein the receiving elements (3, 3') are formed to be plates having recesses (10) into which the containers (5, 5', 5'') are inserted.
  6. Packaging machine according to one of claims 2 to 5,
    wherein one receiving element (3, 3') receives a plurality of containers (5, 5', 5'') at a time.
  7. Packaging machine according to one of claims 1 to 6,
    wherein a plurality of containers (5, 5') is closed at the same time.
  8. Packaging machine according to one of claims 1 to 7,
    wherein a grouping device or an additional intermittent supply device is provided which groups the containers (5) on the supply device (2).
  9. Packaging machine according to one of claims 1 to 8,
    wherein the closing device (25) is a sealing device in which a film is sealed onto the container (5').
  10. Method for closing packages having the steps of:
    - transporting a container (5) in a main transport direction (8) defined by a main transport path to a receiving element (3) in a first position (21);
    - moving the receiving element (3) with the container (5) to a second position (22) which is located laterally of the main transport path in a closing device (25) and, at the same time, transporting another receiving element (3') with a closed container (5'') from the second position (22) to the first position (21);
    - closing the container (5') in the closing device (25) and, at the same time, removing the closed container (5'') from the other receiving element (3') and placing a following container (5) on the other receiving element (3');
    characterised in that the motions of the receiving elements (3, 3') from the second position (22) to the first position (21) and from the first position (21) to the second position (22) are effected by linear motions.
  11. Method according to claim 10, wherein a plurality of containers (5, 5') is received in the receiving element (3, 3') at a time.
  12. Method according to claim 11, wherein the containers (5) are grouped before the transport to the receiving element.
  13. Method according to one of claims 10 to 12, wherein, during moving of the receiving element (3) with the container (5) to a second position (22) which is located laterally of the main transport path in the closing device (25) and simultaneously transporting the other receiving element (3') with the closed container (5'') from the second position (22) to the first position (21), the two receiving elements (3, 3') interchange their positions.
  14. Method according to one of claim 10 to 13, wherein the motions of the receiving elements (3, 3') from the second position (22) to the first position (21) and from the first position (21) to the second position (22) include a vertical linear motion.
